just downloaded their debut album called Burst that came out a couple years ago fwiw, the few songs I checked out were quality too edit: One listen through and this absolutely would've topped Algiers on my '17 list if I'd heard it back then. Reminds me a bit of At the Drive In's Relationship of Command in that literally every song is a compact banger but loosely structured in a way that makes them feel like more than they are, the frenetic riffs are pretty reminiscent of Omar too. There isn't a bad moment on this thing. Hooray new obsessions
haven't posted itt in far too long but a band featuring a couple buddies that i mentioned at some point here just released their first LP. ended up getting a record deal last week too which is v exciting. check 'em out.
Jesus Ryan Adams Accused of Abuse by Phoebe Bridgers, Mandy Moore, Underage Fan, More; Adams Denies It A New York Times report outlines accusations of sexual and emotional abuse from several women. Adams' lawyer calls it “grousing by disgruntled individuals” Ryan Adams, September 2011 (Dave Hogan/Getty Images) Ryan Adams has been accused of abuse—ranging from emotional abuse to sexual misconduct—by several women, as The New York Times reports. The Times report, based on interviews with multiple people including Phoebe Bridgers, Adams’ ex-wife Mandy Moore, singer-songwriter Courtney Jaye, and other women, all of whom gave accounts of their experiences with Adams. There is also an interview with a woman named Ava, who claims she was 14 when she began talking to Adams, building an online relationship that eventually led to sexual conversations and at least one instance where Adams exposed himself to her over Skype. According to texts reviewed by the Times, Adams questioned Ava (who is now 20 years old) about her age repeatedly; she did not always answer honestly, and their sexual conversations continued. He asked her for photographs of herself and reportedly had “pet names” for her body parts. In a text message from near the end of 2014, Adams appeared to acknowledge the situation: “If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol,” he texted her. Ava and Adams never met in person. Adams’ attorney Andrew B. Brettler said, “Mr. Adams unequivocally denies that he ever engaged in inappropriate online sexual communications with someone he knew was underage,” and also said that “if, in fact, this woman was underage, Mr. Adams was unaware.” Brettler also denied the all of the other “extremely serious and outlandish accusations” detailed in the Times report, calling some of the allegations “grousing by disgruntled individuals.” Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Ryan Adams for further comment.
it would be nice if someone in the know would just go ahead and let the rest of us know all the artists who are shitty people so we don't run the risk of supporting one of them with our money and if that was the case, it is very disappointing that entities like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, etc have been publicizing and promoting anything and everything he's done or said over the past 15 years. Even more disappointing because all those entities have started to parade around like purveyors of social justice over the past couple years
Thanks joe. Closing out my friday, this might turn into some drinks and lettuce of the devil variety.
