Nope, but you get a like in solidarity. The only thing that has helped us is trading every other feeding, including taking the monitor out of the bedroom when one person is up. The other person can at least sleep when the pain train is at the station

That was about par for the course for us too. Our son has pretty bad reflux and a dairy intolerance so it was way worse.

What worked for us was making sure he was full. Holding him upright for at least 20 minutes after feeding was critical as well as making sure he burped multiple times.

Something that has also helped us (he’s 3.5 months) is establishing a bedtime routine. We started at 2 months to always let him have his last nap as a catnap while we eat dinner. That’s usually after feeding at 4 between 5 and 545. We then give him a bath between 6:45 and 7. We don’t always wash his hair, but it’s his cue to begin the bedtime process. We then dry him off, put on a new diaper and PJs, give him his medicine, read him a book/story, and then my wife feeds him at around 7:30. By 8:15 he’s been vertical long enough to set him down. He wakes up 20-30 minutes later about 50% of the time needing to burp but it’s usually pretty quick getting him back down.

That last feeding is critical for determining how long he might sleep. Some nights it’s to 1230. Others he does to 330. Routine has been great but his newest thing is busting out of his swaddle. Ordered the magic sleep suit thing because of I’m tired of him waking himself up.

Definetly stick to a strict routine once they're about 6 weeks until 6-7-8 months. Have regular feedings and bedtime routine like jplaYa said. If they don't eat much they can eat more at the next scheduled feeding, don't deviate more than 15 minutes before or after the scheduled intervals.

We used a Miracle Blanket. Kept him bundled tight so when he would flair his arms he wouldn't wake himself up. We were awful at swaddling.

I’m amazed at how strong 3 month olds are. I feel like I’m putting him in a strait jacket and 4 hours later he’s sucking the skin off his knuckles and laughing at me while smiling this all gums smile.

Getting our baby in routine was absolutely the most clutch thing we ever did. She's 16 months now and since 4 months old she has slept 7pm - 7am 98% of the nights. I have a buddy with a baby almost the same age and for some reason his wife refuses to do any routine or sleep training. Think it has a lot to do with their kid being a good sleeper out the gate (ours was terrible) but he was telling me the other day about his daughter waking up at 4 am screaming and his wife bringing her into bed with them to watch tv. This apparently happens a good bit but fuck that, I love my daughter to death but I absolutely cherish my 7pm - 7am time.

Yeah it's tricky with ours because she really likes sleeping with her hands by her face. Has been that way since utero. So i still haven't figured out if swaddling arms tight vs leaving them loose had had any effect. Don't really think it matters one way or the other

Swaddling right absolutely will help. She is likely waking up due to baby reflex which happens pretty cyclically through sleep. Swaddling helps reduce waking from that. We have swaddled from womb to today and it’s been a big factor in him staying asleep despite bad reflux.

I would highly recommend swaddling her tight. You’ll notice that even if you swaddle her as tight as possible, once she’s flat you’ll still be able to slide fingers between the swaddle and her skin. She may resist or be upset at the start, but once she gets to sleep she should stay that way more consistently.

two years ago we made a mistake showing my son a video of his cousin sledding straight into a tree

this year he finally decided to give it a shot

so we go this park with a nice big hill, but it goes right into the outfield fences of a softball field. the hill goes for another 20 yards outside the fence so as long as you guide yourself right you’ll miss the fence

as soon as we show up he sees some kid (7-8) flying down the hill and crashing into the fence

he gets up crying and grabbing his knee while his dumbass parents laugh at him

my son immediately says he’s out. all he’s ever seen of sledding is his cousin and this kid crashing hard

a couple weeks later he decided to give it a shot and he had the time of his life

proud moment to see him concur a small fear

My daughter is the same way; was hell on earth for the first few months until we got her on the right medications. Agree with all your points that a sleep routine is clutch. She's almost 6 months now and it is night and day difference to where we were at 2 or 3 months.

Have you guys attempted to wean him off any medicine yet? Our GI has said that a number of babies will have their reflux symptoms subside around 6-7 months and is recommending we attempt, but I'm not looking forward to it.

So he is on 1.8oz of Zantac twice a day and I’m not fully convinced that it’s what’s helping the most.

We recently found out that he likely has a lower lip tie which significantly impacts his ability to successfully breastfeed without taking in air. We have always noticed he makes a slight clicking sound when he eats but figured it was just part of it.

He’s getting it lasered tomorrow. I’m cautiously optimistic if that fixes his clicking and air bubble intake, it may help his reflux which might be getting masked by all the air in his stomach after eating. He burps like a grown man.

Yeah definitely don’t want her to be on them long term but we had sandifers syndrome which is absolutely terrifying to witness as a parent and I don’t want to put us (or the daycare people) through that if I can help it. How old was yours when you started weening off?

Wife left me and the now 6 weeker to fend for ourselves this evening,. 6:00 rolls around and like clockwork she uncorks a ceaseless barage of LOTR Witch King death curse screaming. Occasional break to inhale oxygen or to slam a bottle, but then right back at it.

Neighbor dude texted me to see if i was alright.

At that age you might consider making his last nap a cat nap (30-45 minutes) at say 5pm after feeding him at around 4 and keeping him awake an hour. Wake him up around 5:30-5:45 and let him play for 45 minutes to an hour and do bath time at 6:45-7. Feed him at 7-7:15 and burp and try and lay him down for bed at 7:30-8.

We found it helpful for him to be awake a full 2 hours before bed time coming off a cat nap. It’s also good for him to go to bed on a full stomach while making sure he’s burped. We found he would often put himself to sleep after eating because of him being full and sleepy from playing.

I have seen a lot of people talk about reflux with their children on here so I figured I would throw my experience with our little guy.

Background - Little JC was born on 8/1/17 and slept and ate awesome up until Thanksgiving of that same year. He got sick at daycare and was prescribed Augmentin. We were new parents so we trusted our pediatrician. Well he ends up on this medicine three more times through March. Slept horribly during most of this period.

In March he essentially shit nonstop and developed terrible rashes among other issues. He developed an ear infection combined with some other stuff. He quit eating and was finally admitted to the hospital on the Thursday prior to Easter. We had a great doctor that was there with him. She couldn’t believe he had been prescribed Augmentin right away as it is extremely strong and harsh on a baby’s stomach - something I wish we knew before.

My wife had just quit breastfeeding two weeks prior as we were getting no sleep and she couldn’t keep up. The doctor in the hospital switched him to Nutramigen formula the third day in the hospital and finally he ate again. She also recommended a daily probiotic for him. She thought it was extremely likely that he had reflux as well and prescribed meds for it.

We were discharged on Sunday and just felt broken the next couple days as he wouldn’t sleep still but was again eating. We decided against the reflux meds as he had been on so many different prescriptions that led to bad things.

My best friend recommended a chiropractor that specializes in pediatrics that lives in my city. She travels around the country to teach pediatric chiropractic and has won a ton of awards. We took him in to see her and she ran scans (not X-Rays) on him and he was an absolute mess in the areas that cause digestion and reflux issues. She adjusted him that very same day. This wasn’t just a machine or someone giving us advice...it was actual major manipulation of his back, hips, and neck. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing on such a small child.

That was on a Friday. He slept through the night that very same night for the first time since November. We took him two times a week for a month, one time a week for two months, and now every other week. He generally cries when we go but he absolutely loves the girl (she’s hot...who wouldn’t) and it has changed our lives. No reflux meds needed and our pediatrician said he no longer showed any signs of it (arching, fussy, etc).

Going to the chiropractor combined with getting tubes has transformed him completely. Obviously everyone is different and it’s difficult to find someone that specializes in kids. If you can, I would give it a try.

Yeah, Augmentin has resulted in terrible diaper rashes for both our kids. Both ended up needing a prescription ‘butt paste’ compound to help. Amoxicillin is typically the first antibiotic given.

Depends. Different abx are first line for different types of infection. Augmentin is amoxicillin combined with another agent that allows it to kill types of bacteria that amoxicillin alone can't.

Augmentin is first line for things like acute sinusitis, lympadenitis, dental infections, animal bite infections etc in kids. Usually not for simple ear infections or pneumonias in kids, but can be under certain circumstances. If someone reached for it as their first choice for an uncomplicated ear infection, yeah that's dumb. But it is most definitely appropriate in other circumstances.
