Bigger is better, but OTOH, the Q8 has more future proofed features that you'll appreciate in the coming years.

OTOH (I would need to see exact model numbers to confirm)

    The Q8/Q9 series includes
    • "Game mode" which is marketing speak for "Auto Low Latency", which reduces input lag, the biggest benefit for this is gaming.
    • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR; e.g. Freesync), which syncs the refresh of the tv to the output of the game console, where fps is not always uniform, again mainly for gaming.
    • I believe there are also enhanced (?) HDMI CEC controls on this tv, which means connected devices can control each other. For instance. If you had a blu ray playing through the xbox one x, you could play/pause/stop etc with the Samsung remote.

If those are not interesting, then the Q6 would be fine, as its a 120hz panel.

Bought the 65” 4K TCL. Total was like $470 after target discounts. I have no idea how I was watching tv on a 50” lol

With others ITT on recent pages saying size >>>....

The TV you got was one of the other 2 I’m looking at. Same price point as 55” Q6.

Does size > upgrade in quality of qled???

This is a mission critical 24 hour window. I’m buying something tomorrow after work

i would imagine the qled has a noticeable quality difference, but 10inches on a tv really is a lot bigger. also depends on the size of the room. ive got ours mounted in the living room. literally didnt even have a table big enough to sit it on lol

I've read several people say if you are considering going one size smaller for one level up in picture (typically close in price comparison), that you should always go for the bigger screen
The picture quality difference doesn't make up for the immediate impact of size

I guess the undisclosed X factor is that my current 47” is big enough for my apartment living room. People watching are typically only sitting at most 15’ away from the screen. 65” would probably look gaudy or be too big, if that’s a thing, for my apartment.

And if overly optimistically thinking ahead the GF has a 65” 4K (just LED) already in her living room so when December rolls around, when I’d be moving into her house, a 55” would be more than enough for bedroom or game room TV

And so why are you buying a new TV if 47" is big enough as is

we were going to get the 55 inch TCL, went to Best Buy and looked at them, the 65 seemed so much bigger. few days later i get home and the 65 is in my living room ready to be unboxed. i'd say i got myself a pretty good fiancee!

Starting to consider the 65" TCL, the $1000 model. Saves about $600 over the Samsung QLED 6 series.

I was going to say this the other day. The Roku side is awesome, and the 32” I have for tailgating has seen wind, rain, snow, beer, been knocked over, etc. it’s crazy how well it’s held up.

Reviews I'm reading for the TCL 65" states sports aren't the best on it. Can any of you TCL boys elaborate? or is it really not noticeable?

Movies and shows are apparently A+ though.

im no expert, but why would sports be any different than a movie/show? football and basketball come across fine for me. crystal clear on antenna and nearly as good over stream.

Anyone interested in buying a tv should get one of the LG OLED’s from Best Buy right now. They are significantly discounted, at the lowest prices they’ve ever been. 65 inch starts at $1,849.

Black Friday pricing was actually $200 more on the B8. The C8 is also heavily discounted at $1,949 (or $100 more than the B8)

Planning a wedding and then hoping to buy a house, but a nice living room TV will be long overdue. Looking forward to the 2019 lineup including some HDMI 2.1 features.

My 2012 Plasma still looks sharp as can be, but is of no help for my 4k blurays w/ HDR. Smart TV w/ apps, voice control, Dolby Vision, integration with Google Assistant, ALLM, VRR, oh my. OLED? even better.

Looking at replacing my 10+ year old 33" Vizio that has been in our bedroom. Largest I can go and fit it into the space in my bedroom is 43". I am thinking about going 43" TCL. Is it worth paying an extra $40 for the "Wide Color Gamut" of the 5 Series over the 4 series?

I have a Best Buy Gift Card, and I don't see a 1080p option of the TCL. I do on Amazon. Should I consider just getting a 1080p instead of 4K since the screen size will only be 43"? We will be about 8 feet away from the TV.

CNET testing says the picture on the 5 is better than 4.

Why would you want 1080p over 4K? 4K can play 1080p sources.

I would not want 1080p over 4k unless 43" at 8 feet away means it isn't visually noticeable. I don't remember what the size/distance ratio is.

I wonder if the picture is $40 better

It's not. I believe I'm going to, just wondering if I will even be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 4K at that size and distance. Probably not, but fuck it.

I've not gone 4k but I have noticed a difference in basically every size I have seen, Plus it will not be long and 4k will become the standard so why not be ready for it. Netflix offering 4k stuff is pretty cool too.

I don’t know the specifics of those models, but that $140 may also get you more than just that spec. Better processor, etc.

    ^ditto.

Better panel, better motion handling, better image processing, better upscaling, and possibly better sound/apps/remote, but a much better picture, even on the same 1080 content.

My 78” Samsung 4K tv is about 4 years old and I think it’s near the end of its lifecycle. Seems like in that time LG has ursurped Samsung for the high end. It’s in my living room off the kitchen/dining so it has a good bit of light and I’ve heard positive things about the OLEDs.

    Following for now

Same. From my very casual perusal of TV sections at stores and being a nerd online, I think the general sentiment is that curved TVs are kind of a fad. Makes viewing angles worse for people not in the foci.
