It was a great, great callback to Obi Wan's sacrifice to give the kids time to escape, down to the raising of the lightsaber to accept a killing blow. Only missed Kylo squishing some leftover robes hoping to feel some blood or something.

I definitely think the EU Luke spoiled me for what we got in TLJ. Luke in the EU was so powerful non-force sensitive people could feel it around him.

It was fucking awesome. Then he died. That was the end of Luke. A great ending if we had gotten 3 full movies of Luke. Not 22 minutes or whatever his screen time was.

I share the frustration of the paucity of Luke in the new movies, but I lay that at JJ's feet.

There's nothing wrong with having Luke go out in movie 2 of a trilogy, knowing he can come back as a force ghost and clearing the way for the actual protagonist to win the day on her own. Leaving him out of the first movie deprived us our quality Luke time.

What I got from that list is that Phasma was on screen for a combined 3:30 seconds in TFA and TLJ. That is my biggest gripe with the sequels so far, she could have been great.

I’m of the opinion that I didn’t like his characterization in TLJ but him astral projecting himself to what amounted to trolling his dipshit nephew was awesome, especially with the foreshadowing of Kylo telling Rey about it earlier in the movie.

I’m totally down for Rian doing or spearheading a trilogy provided there’s a few extra looks at the script.

    Great point.

To add to this: as someone who has experience with films I can attest that sometimes you can easily get caught in your own wants and desires for how the film should look, feel, etc etc — and you’re so immersed in the process that the hardest part is taking a step back and thinking about what the audience might want to see.

There were too many characters in TLJ. That’s the biggest problem with the film.

The biggest problem with TLJ is TFA being a waste of a movie

Yeah I enjoyed TFA for the nostalgia and parts of the storyline were actually pretty cool -- but Episode IX will be leave me unhappy if they don't explain how Maz got Luke's lightsaber. I know it may be minor to some people, but I've always wanted a backstory.

They fucked up not having even a loose outline of what should happen in all three movies.

It’s crazy to me JJ made episode 7 and then had no input on ep 8

That’s just setting up for failure

This having zero overarching plan for the story is ultimately what botched it

It’s wild, especially considering what marvel is doing also under Disney

    So Luke was Obi Wan.

Luke had three full movies. This isn't his trilogy

I disagree. Would’ve been a massive waste of screen time to try to develop her into a fleshed out character.

Maybe give her another badass moment or two but I wouldn’t care to hear about how she had daddy issues or something.

I have this feeling we get some flashback Luke scenes in episode 9. Either the Jedi Temple stuff or something else. If not, no big deal to me.

    I was thinking the same.

I wonder to appease the fans they will have this flashback scene with Mark Hamill and use that nice CGI anti-aging for him to have a scene wielding his green lightsaber.

Keri Russell could even play a Mara Jade type character who is tragically killed by a younger Snoke or something along those lines.

These sorts of plot holes don't bother JJ. James Kirk goes from cadet to captain of the Enterprise in like a day in his Star Trek movies

JJ is the perfect Hollywood director in that he’s inoffensive, non-confrontational and plays ball with execs

And he makes entertaining enough films, but I can’t imagine him making anything more than solid popcorn fare

Star Wars was never that deep. Solid, Flash Gordon popcorn fare is what it first buttered its bread on. It was only with the EU and the movie-free era of catering to the hardest of the hardcore fans that the "lore" and "mythology" of the universe came center-stage.

‘Producer’ can be a vague word. Oftentimes it just means their production company provided some of the funding, and not necessarily that they were actively involved in creative/production decisions.

If it's the same plastic crap that they currently sell as custom lightsabers, I'll be very disappointed.

At Star Wars Celebration Chicago, fans will get a first look at what’s coming next Star Wars video games.

In a special panel on Saturday, April 13, EA and Respawn will pull back the curtain on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, in which gamers will meet a Padawan who survived Order 66 and explore the galaxy in the time after the fall of the Jedi Order. The discussion will feature never-before-released details ahead of the game’s fall 2019 release.

Beyond this exciting debut, fans can invade the exhibition floor to try out other games including: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, a game of strategy, skill, and squad building; and Star Wars Pinball, Zen Studios’ innovatively immersive take on an arcade classic.

And Star Wars: The Old Republic, one of the longest running games set a thousand years before the rise of the Empire, will be hosting a special event with more details to come.
