Mike Duncan was another podcast where he talked about how he expected to still do at least the Mexican Revolution, Russian Revolution, Cuban Revolution, and perhaps Iranian Russian one will take him a year
He's been making the rounds on other podcasts to promote his book that comes out next week. Im getting kind of bored w the current 1840s revolution. Looking forward to the next one
He hasn't done a Common Sense in forever. I'm guessing he's just thrown his hands up and is like "fuck everything right now."
Ah. It’s a different podcast you have to subscribe to apparently. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast...ry-addendum/id1326393257?mt=2&i=1000420369873
Good lord that would be terrifying. I hope he keeps doing these things. Seems like he could put out one of these "worst places in the world" episodes once a month.
Jesus how terrified would you be if after killing someone, you actually enjoyed it? I don't think that's something you can ever really know until it's happened. I think that also brings up a discussion about religion and morality, since there are soldiers who do enjoy killing but know that they shouldn't. Does that sort of moral conundrum happen in mongol or saxon or other pre-monotheistic societies?
Did you see the Ken Burns Doc? Seemed to be a recurring theme with the soldiers there, enjoying killing and getting good at it. He did such a great job getting the interviewees to talk honestly. Like the one dude that admitting trading food for a fuck.
It’s definitely worth a relisten—the material in Part 1 was a lot denser than some of the recent topics (King of Kings, Celtic Holocaust). I replayed it around Xmas when Dan teased Part 2 as a possible Xmas gift, and I think I’m going to give it one more go before I dive into Part 2.
Yeah it was great from what I remember. Gonna start part one and then go straight into part 2 starting tomorrow
The lady has a late shift tonight and all my exercise and yard stuff is done. As soon as she steps one foot out the door I’m migrating to the couch on our back patio with a cooler full of beer and my portable speaker.
Hoo boy the last hour and a half was incredible. As good as Dan has ever done. Part 3 is so primed to be a masterpiece.
By far the best class I took in college dealt with the revolution and the following years building the Soviet government
Part 2 was good but I don't think it's even close to his best stuff. I'm a bit nervous he's peaked. Having said that he's still my favorite podcast by far.
Think he may get close to the number of episodes for the French Revolution depending on where he stops.
I'm working my way through the French Revolution episodes of Duncan's podcast. I started listening to Revolutions after about 50 episodes of History of Rome. I can definitely tell he's gotten more comfortable/confident
Yeah. History of Rome he was super dry. He still is but there’s a bit more personality coming out now. For those that may have missed it (or haven’t gotten to the episode ) He moves to Paris to do research for his next book about Layafette. Should be amazing. Storm before the Storm was good but basically just a retelling of info in the podcast. I think Lafayette will be really good.
