I don't think it's a Hollywood thing, I think he logs onto Twitter and sees most of the young writers all very pro-athlete and he thinks it's all just a big race to who can be the most "woke", as if he couldn't fathom that people could possibly take the side of the player instead of the executives.

Maybe he just sucks and has bad opinions and has an inflated sense of his own intelligence through being associated with one of the best in the business for so many years.

He's been saying the exact same stuff on radio for years.

I think he prides himself on being someone with a different take than other radio/media people, so he looks for the alternative to talking points from others. I don't agree with some of it, but I kind of find myself agreeing with a fair amount of that kind of stuff when he goes there. I don't take it like "Russillo is pro-owner instead of pro-player." I take it more as "you can be on the side of the player without feeling like you have to go to war for them on every issue." Maybe I'm wrong there, but I think a lot of the stuff that people get mad at comes down to his ego making the delivery more clumsy than it needs to be.

For example, I thought the baseball convo in the second half of that podcast was better than most stuff I've heard on the subject the last 15 months and a lot of it was the kind of stuff you're talking about.

I think the NBA players are getting a little too power hungry. They have it the best out of the three majors and have the most influence but there is a tipping point.

Agreed with you there 100%, but it's a bit different when you're dealing with more complex social issues. His arrogance doesn't play when he goes beyond what happens on the floor/field. I can only imagine the type of shit he says about LeBron and Kaepernick when he's off-air.

Does The Ringer have some sort of sponsorship deal with whatever Slack is? Simmons brings it up in every pod it seems. I’ve never heard of it outside of Ringer podcasts. Maybe I’m just out of touch with these sorts of things tho.

It’s just a communication tool for employees. Sort of like instant messaging in it’s simplest form.

Most tech companies use slack or jabber or whatnot.

My company uses slack. It’s ok. I like the custom private slack channels and it seems like Simmons has channels set up for each sport.

Simmons not even bringing up his insane JFK conspiracy theory with Arum was weak, think the reaction to when he went all in about it a while back must have spooked him.

the fear is palpable in Bill of Kyrie going to the Knicks, he's been extra cranky about them lately.

Also not sure how smart it is of Ainge to have Bill trash Klutch, as if the Trump comments by MAGAinge weren't bad enough

    my buddy messages me this:

"You see Simmons jump shot? Not good"

I assume he is talking about Ben Simmons in the NBA. I walk over to talk to him about it because I didn't see anything.

He proceeds to tell me Bill Simmons posted his shot on instagram stories.....it's the worst looking jumper I've seen in a while.

I would not have have wanted him for pick up games under any circumstances.

Kyle Lowry over Bradley Beal for 3rd team All-NBA at this point through the season? I hope that was an oversight and not a team records thing.

I just realized Russillo does the trump thing where he learns about something for the first time then says everyone is just learning about it or doing it (ala Frederick Douglas).

Ryen was really pushing back on Simmons’ Davis/Lakers take. Seems like there some other points he was pushing back on too that I’m blanking on.

I think Ryan wanted to push back harder on some of Bill’s hot takes in previous pods. It felt like he really wanted to call Simmons out on the Saquan Barkley take he had a while back, but held himself back because he was still new to the Ringer, or not on officially yet.

Now that he’s more comfortable in his roll he’s starting to make Bill support his theories.

Simmons take on movies by and large is much like my own, which is a big reason why I like him. But looking at his insta, he resembles someone who would be really twitchy and awkward. Almost every photo looks uncomfortable.

I liked the movie a lot, and it was very successful, but I don’t know why they’re doing a movie that came out 5 months ago for that podcast. It makes no sense when they do the new movies because the whole point of the podcast is to revisit movies, how they aged, why they’re classics, etc.

My point was that I clearly agree it’s weird to do such a recent movie, as I was the one who brought that up originally, but people clearly liked it as much as the ringer staff.
