Completely agree with this sentiment but given the time of year options are limited. Considering just postponing it a bit
There's nothing limited about January. There are resorts all over central and south America and the Caribbean
One if the guys who will be in my wedding did this as well. Rented out a boat intended for 2 couples for just he and his wife. Capitan (and his wife) cooked. He loved it as well. Fiancée has done this, though. And (frustratingly) she seems to have been to just about every Caribbean island that I have not, and vice versa. When it comes to Caribbean, I think the only places we haven’t been are Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Dominica (sp?) and Hispaniola. Viable options, I just don’t know much about them and none really get my juices flowing based on name alone.
Yeah I’m on a phone and not being clear. I was trying to get farther away than that, which is why I called it limited. May just change the timing and/or “tone” of the trip a bit to being more active. Simply fishing for good honeymoon locales that may not be readily apparent. A cousin went to Amsterdam for 2 days and then on to Southern Africa for a safari for his. May look into something along those lines.
That was my suggestion after Bora Bora but she’s been. Apparently I should look more into Turks. What it really boils down to is my getting stoked for a super cheap stay in a bungalow at the St Regis in Bora Bora and then her nixing it due to (legitimate) concerns about the weather.
Not real sure. Believe most of my family will be in tijuana so my cousin is gonna drive me down when I land. Think they'll have the cars rented and we'll depart the next morning. I'm just going with the flow
You and I have a lot of similar tastes. This is one is up there but I think next year I’d like to do a NOLS course somewhere.
I went through a run where I was going there a lot like 3 years ago but haven't been in almost 3 years now
someone said the BVI and i could not agree more. Some of the places got hit hard by storms the past few years - Caneel Bay. But try Peter Island if youre doing it for just the two of yall. Gone there twice and its gotten the job done. Or charter a yacht like Bamanug said, those are badass and Ive known several groups of friends that have done it.
Used to have friends living there so I’ve been quite a few times and looking for something new. FWIW Currently looking into Costa Rica and African safaris. Only concern with the latter is having loud sex in a tent.
ever been? My trip was honeymoon’esque. Renting a car and cruising Costa is awesome and easy. Everything is catered toward tourist (ie in English). Check the Springs Volcano hotel from my post. I haven’t seen too many hotels mentioned ITT that beat that tbh (Bachelor show filmed there). http://www.thespringscostarica.com/gallery.php https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_R...lcano_National_Park_Province_of_Alajuela.html
What do you guys consider honeymoonish? My honeymoon was in Greece and pretty similar to the vacations we normally take. I’m curious what others have in mind when they differentiate honeymoon destinations from other vacation destinations
Not bad doing it to end a trip. Plus the landscape is vastly different then those other places. Maybe not a resort, but the small islands are dope
If I'm talking to a normal American a honeymoon is you go be boring at some resort and think you're adventurous because you get on a catamaran to go snorkel
Just got back from a long weekend there. We really enjoyed it, even with lousy weather the first couple days
Nope we’re only looking at going places neither has been. To me, the ability to go bungee jumping and rafting is a big appeal of Costa Rica. That resort looks tight, thank you. Clearly
Panama, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Nica were also awesome, but I always recommend Costa because it seemed more accommodating from start to finish.
My advice from doing a ton of research and having been there, if you are interested in wildlife viewing Tanzania > Kenya. If your goal is to sit out on your hotel deck (Kenya does have world class lodges) and watch animals pass by then Kenya may be the way to go. Otherwise seriously look into Tanzania. The migration is in Tanzania the majority of the year and the tented lodges we stayed in were incredible. This is who we used. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attract...views-Duma_Explorer-Arusha_Arusha_Region.html
Oranjello Have you considered Zanzibar and/or Africa? That was the one thing I kept thinking on my trip this fall. It felt like an ideal honeymoon as you can pretty much do all the types of vacation. More active or bucket listy with Giraffe Manor, Safaris, Mt Kilimanjaro, and/or scuba (Mafia Island), along with an easy trip to some of the most pristine and relaxing beaches in the world. It's not only Zanzibar, there are a ton of awesome beaches and islands... This spot on Pemba Island, for example: http://www.themantaresort.com/
These are both very helpful, thank you. A safari/beach combo looks like the way to go in Africa for a honeymoon. Knowing that Tanzania > Kenya is why I posted ITT. Anecdotal, sure, but very helpful. Also didn't really know where Zanzibar was. Bamanug mentioned it last night but I thought it was more out in the Indian Ocean like the Seychelles. Only problem I'm running into is (once again) the weather. Like Bora Bora, it seems like it's hot (near 95F in Tanzania) and rainy that time of year. Wedding is in December so starting to think that pushing the honeymoon into late Feb/March may not be the end of the world although not what I was hoping to do.
https://www.mahlatini.com/itineraries/dubai-and-maldives-luxury-city-and-beach-honeymoon/ Might suggest a stop over in Dubai but tell her she must wear a hijab while there. Sure it'd go swimmingly.
In Kenya you got Lamu (Unesco World Heritage Site), which by all accounts is supposed to be amazing. I'm still pretty upset we couldn't figure out a way to get there. You also have Diani Beach which is apparently beautiful, and Malindi which is one of those beaches where the paparazzi catches models and celebs on vacation. Tanzania has Pemba (that underwater room), Zanzibar (which has a LOT of places to choose from in itself), and Mafia (mainly for scuba diving). I'll look at the website you linked and give my tidbits from the research I've already done when I get to the office. Also, here's a link to my write-up: https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...-now-with-write-ups-in-the-op.120242/page-309

Azores were amazing when I went in August. Strongly recommend. Edit: This is more like an outdoorsy type of vacation. Lots of hiking and sight seeing. Surprisingly cheap considering it's an isolated island chain. Beaches have nice surf. Very good seafood. However; if you are single and put a high value on nightlife, I'd probably save the Azores for a time when it's not much of a priority.

Going on my honeymoon in August and we are going to Bali. Our thought process was we wanted to go somewhere that isn’t just your run of the mill vacation. I believe that is going to vary from person to person, but we had been to Europe multiple times together, but never Asia/SE Asia. Majority of my friends though have done somewhere in the Caribbean at an all inclusive resort. We would’ve hated that.
we did 5 days at an all-inclusive in Playa del Carmen once many years ago It wasn’t our thing but I can see why it appeals to some
