Taxation is broken. Wealth tax won’t change things if you can’t collect - $8B in uncollected tax revenue expires this year alone (up from $110M in 2011, I think).

Social media, news media can spin a narrative, but you can always tell who is reaching folks by the money they raise and who they raise it from. I'm curious how some of these early announced candidates who pledged no corporate donations stick to that when they are getting lapped in fundraising.

I think you're conflating legitimate criticisms with bullshit smears. The Warren crap is a Donald Trump insult led by him and his supporters and I've seen no one here give that any credence. The Harris criticisms however are very legitimate and dismissing it as "tough on crime" shows a lack of knowledge on the details of those criticisms. She needs to and likely will address them at some point but people bringing that up is not sexism/racism. The Gillibrand stuff about the fork is again also beyond dumb and I haven't seen anyone seriously give it any thought. Also Beto a white male got the same criticisms that Booker got for funding from oil/pharma respectively so again that's not a racially based attack.

You should ask yourself why the people that strongly support Bernie Sanders are the same people that found and got people like AOC Illhan Omar Rashida Talib(The most popular minority women in congress) elected. It's because they largely support the same policies.

I think its helpful for everyone during this upcoming primary to strongly consider where the attacks/criticism is coming from and whether they have any merit.

Ill admit I went too far work the white, male privilege comment, but Bernie is absolutely treated differently. Like I said, there was a post from today where any criticism of Bernie was because you were old and white. I don't like Bernie and his supporters are annoying AF, but to each his own.

When Warren announced her proposal, I looked into the wealth tax a good bit on behalf of a client considering leaving the country because of it. At the time, there were very few details on how it would be implemented, and without more info my conclusion was that it would probably be unconstitutional. That said, I also thought the legislation could perhaps be drafted in such a way as to be constitutional. It’s an uphill battle but not impossible. Don’t forget we needed to amend the constitution in order to be certain that income taxes are permissible.

Biggest problem with a wealth tax IMO would be administration. Valuing “wealth” and illiquid investments would be a major problem and constantly challenged by taxpayers.

Yeah I just discovered that today. I'm not going to dismiss any criticism of Sanders, but he basically stated that he's done nothing as a member of congress for almost 30 years.
