Well they also killed a guy. Seems even in the 2015 timeline Roland is still shook by it. Guessing it would affect both of them pretty hard. Guessing that, the n word comments and then whatever the conversation with Hoyt brings up this week
That's an interesting thought. They did kind of share a look when it was brought up at the dinner table.
I guess it didn’t matter...naturally. So basically all is well. Definitely underwhelming. No great mystery. No cult. Just an accident and an insane woman who got carried away. I never got involved int he theories on this one and glad I didn’t. It had more to do with his story than anything else.
So we never found out how the wife died? Or why the daughter hated him? Or why he didn’t talk to west for 15 years? Come on
Season 3 certainly wasn't bad. However, in my opinion, the question that determines how good it was is this: Would you watch it again? I think the answer to that question is pretty much a universal "no."
I was plenty good with that. I’ve been saying the entire season that this season was about the relationships that surround the case and the finale did an excellent job of bringing that point home on several fronts. Purple disappearing into the jungle was awesome. Loved it
I really enjoyed the season as a whole. I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting to happen tonight but whatever it was, I don’t feel like I got it.
I had this exact thought a couple weeks ago. As it stands now, though, the creator of True Detective is M. Night Pizzolatto. The standard he set with the first season is almost unfair to him and the viewers.
I thought it was a solid ending and a good story. Spoiler The story is about the case, and we now know what happened. Even though Hayes loses his reason for being there and whether he realizes it or not at the time, he finds Julie in the end and even more so that she ended up with a happy life. He got closure. What happened to Amelia and his relationship with his daughter are irrelevant. The relationship with his wife was all about the case, and they put the pieces of the case together in the end. Nic Pizzolatto after the episode alluded to the fact that we have hope that the rest of the case is fully resolved after his son decided to keep the note with the address on it. It was well written and a great story and fuck you if you disagree.
I thought it was great and I'm glad it wasn't a huge conspiracy like season 1. I was wondering how Hays's dementia would be noteworthy in the overall story: Spoiler He figures it all out and gets closure, but then forgets about it so it's like he never gets it. I think that's a great finish to his character.
I’m all for shows being about deeper meanings, like personal relationships of the characters. The problem I ultimately have is don’t tease us for the majority of the season with cliffhangers, hints of some big conspiracy and real criminal shit and then just totally go the other way. Seems a bit cheap.
I didn't pay attention as much as I should have through the earlier episodes, but did I miss the point of the present day interview? From the girl some thought was Julie?
I suppose the acting mostly saved it for me. Some solid moments (the shootout scene comes to mind) but overall I was pretty underwhelmed. Obviously way better than season two but also nowhere near one.
I mean, even season one left us on the hook with some grand conspiracy still dangling. I think you guys are being weird
For me, that’s the point. I was fine with how season 1 ended. With this season, they set it up at every turn to be some big conspiracy thing and then it was totally the opposite.
I mean, there was a huge conspiracy, they just answered your questions for you in season 3 about what that conspiracy was. Season 1 they teased a huge conspiracy with powerful people involved and then it ends up being some inbred in a shack that gets pinned.
It wasn’t a conspiracy in how they teased it to be. Season 1 was a big conspiracy in which we only saw the conclusion of that single case.
I just thought it was great. Didn’t really expect this thread to be shitting on it but oh well I guess.
