We are going to rotate so much so often that it could end up being a guy that we would not anoint as our best pass rusher.

But I would take Anderson or Cox. Probably in that order.

Idk how I keep forgetting about Cox. I like the idea of him sliding in that Led/Herring spot on passing downs with Anderson/Johnson/Azeez/Nolan off the edges. The pass rush better be the best of the Kirby era. No doubt about that

Which is weird since he played immediately and Anderson didn’t. I think more was asked of Cox, tbh. Anderson didn’t have to play the run at all.

I think Cox is going to play a ton, which means he will have more sack opportunities. Primary reason I listed him.

But yea I am still high on him too. Interested to see if he adds weight and plays more DL.

Rising Georgia star Jordan Davis expected to be cleared for spring drills
    Mike GriffithFebruary 26, 2019
    [IMG]
ATHENS — Georgia football Freshman All-American nose tackle Jordan Davis is expected to be cleared for spring drills after missing the Sugar Bowl.

Davis, a 6-foot-6, 325-pounder from Charlotte, N.C., is expected to have a major impact as a sophomore. Davis emerged halfway through last season, finishing with 25 tackles, 3 QB hurries and 1.5 sacks.

RELATED: UGA leads nation with 3 FWAA Freshman All-Americans

Davis missed the Sugar Bowl after suffering an injury while performing squats in a weightlifting session following the SEC Championship Game. Georgia held Davis out against Texas as a precaution.

Georgia has yet to officially announce the start of spring football drills, but the date is tentatively expected to be March 18.

The Bulldogs were missing three key defensive players in the 28-21 upset loss to the Longhorns. Thorpe Award winner Deandre Baker opted to sit out to avoid risking injury and protect his projected first-round NFL draft stock. UGA sacks leader D’Andre Walker was also out with a groin injury.

RELATED: Deandre Baker reverses field, decides not to compete in Sugar Bowl

The Georgia defensive front was one of the bigger questions entering the 2018 campaign, but the defensive line progressed as the season wore on.

Davis had much to do with that.

“Jordan’s development has been a big bonus for us,” Smart said last October. “He may be one of our best conditioned players now because he spends all of his time conditioning.”

The Bulldogs lose departing senior Ledbetter, but rising seniors Julian Rochester (6-5, 300) and Tyler Clark (6-4, 300) return to anchor what figures to be a strong unit.

ESPN analyst Cole Cubelic took note of Davis’ growth last season.

“He’s big enough to anchor and play the run,” Cubelic said. “And yet, he has the athletic ability to be able to move and be disruptive.”

And speaking of trolling, pretty funny to see Spurrier shit talk South Carolina:

“I tell you the football gods have been smiling on me the last two (AAF) weeks,” Spurrier said about the Apollos being fortunate to be 3-0. “I think all the crap I had at South Carolina those last two years, they’re coming back. They’re smiling on me a little bit.”

We have edge guys to burn all of a sudden. So long and twitchy out there. It's amazing how Kirby take a position of relative weakness and turns it into a strength seemingly overnight. A couple of months ago I was worried we had no receivers. Now I think we have a damn stable-full.

What's left for Georgia, Tom Crean on 2019 recruiting trail?
    • by Palmer Thombs

Georgia’s 2019 basketball recruiting class saw a big jump a couple of weeks ago when one of the nation’s top prospects, Anthony Edwards, announced his commitment to Tom Crean and the Bulldogs. With two players already signed, Toumani Camara and Jaykwon Walton, and Edwards committed, Crean’s class currently sits at No. 12. Crean was known for his recruiting ability at his previous stops as he brought in back to back top-10 classes at Indiana in 2012 and 2013, and his excitement about the future of Georgia basketball makes fans believe it will be the same way in Athens.

“Obviously Georgia would like to build around Anthony [Edwards] and I think Anthony opting to stay home and go there could certainly impact some of these other decisions,” Evan Daniels, the Director of Basketball Recruiting for 247Sports said. “Maybe not directly, but, these kids want to team up and play together and play with other really good players, so when a guy the caliber of Anthony decides to go to Georgia, I think it probably opens those other guys’ eyes up a little.”

“Look, Tom’s got a really good recruiting class,” he continued. “It’s not just Anthony. Camara and Jaykwon Walton are both really good players, so those three guys are going to provide a good punch to the program, and I think you are only helping with the other recruits, because they know they are going in with other really good players.”

Even with the high standing of the class currently, there is potential to move up with several players still on the board for Georgia. We had a chance to speak with Daniels this week about those chances.

    Precious Achiuwa (Montverde Academy, NY)

    Small Forward, 6-foot-9, 190 pounds

247Sports Composite: No. 13 overall, No. 4 small forward, No. 3 in New York

Evan Daniels Says: “Precious is the highest ranked of the guys that they’re going after. He’s got elite physical tools. Size, length, athleticism, mobility. It’s a guy that can impact the game with his rebounding using that athleticism around the basket. He’s got significant upside. I think he is going to be able to guard multiple positions at the college level too.”

Achiuwa took an official visit to Kansas earlier this week and has one scheduled to North Carolina on March 9. UConn is listed as the favorite to land the five star according to the Crystal Ball projections, but Daniels believes that there is a chance that Georgia could get in the mix and potentially get an official visit as well. However, his decision likely won’t come until after playing in the McDonald’s All American Game in Atlanta. If the Bulldogs are able to sign him, he would be the program’s third highest ranked signee ever behind Edwards and 2005 signee Louis Williams.

    Lester Quinones (IMG Academy, FL)

    Shooting Guard, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds

247Sports Composite: No. 65 overall, No. 9 shooting guard, No. 11 in Florida

Evan Daniels Says: “Lester Quinones is one of the best shooters in the country. He’s got good size for the position. I think he’s really improved as a ball handler, and operates pretty well out of the pick and roll. But shooting is where he brings the most value.”

Having just cut his list down to seven, Quinones is working to get some more official visits scheduled. He saw LSU and Maryland in November and December respectively, but the other five schools in his final listing would like to have him to campus too. Georgia is one of those, along with Memphis, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio State.

    Harlond Beverly (Montverde Academy, FL)

    Combo Guard, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds

247Sports Composite: No. 82 overall, No. 11 combo guard, No. 12 in Florida

Evan Daniels Says: “He’s a combo guard, but I think he’s developing into a primary ball handler. He’s got good size for the position. He’s a scorer. Shoots the ball pretty well from distance, and he’s a guy that I think has a lot of potential as a defender because I think he could guard multiple positions.”

Beverly could be the solution to Georgia’s lack of a true point guard. He has not taken any official visits during his recruiting process so far. While Michigan State holds all of the Crystal Ball projections currently, Georgia is still in the mix along with the likes of Baylor and Indiana.

    Walker Kessler (Woodward Academy, GA)

    Center, 6-foot-10, 225 pounds

247Sports Composite: No. 16 overall, No. 3 center, No. 2 in Georgia

Evan Daniels Says: “Walker Kessler is one of the best post players in the 2020 class. For his size, he moves extremely well. He’s got a terrific set of hands. Really nice touch around the basket. Can get to a hook shot with the ability to make those short to mid-range jump shots. He’s a good area rebounder, so I’ve been really impressed with his skill, but also his mobility and his ability to rebound.”

An idea is floating around that Kessler may reclassify from the 2020 class to the 2019 class, something that Anthony Edwards did back in November before visiting Georgia for the first time in December. Several members of Kessler’s family played basketball at Georgia and he was one of the first recruits that Tom Crean reached out to when he got the job, so if he were to decide to reclassify, the Bulldogs would certainly get a hard look.

Another prospect that I spoke with Daniels about was JUCO point guard Tyson Jolly. The 6-foot-4 Oklahoma City native initially signed his National Letter of Intent with California, but was released after a coaching change. He then went to Baylor as a redshirt freshman before ending up at Trinity Valley Community College in Texas. Wherever Jolly ends up next, he will have two years of eligibility left.

The initial day for the spring signing period is April 17 with the time to sign ending on May 15. With the pieces already in place, Tom Crean will finish out with a great class regardless of whether or not he is able to add to it.

I'm not sure Quinones can play PG. He's more of a traditional shooting guard. While not as highly ranked as some of the others, I think Beverly is the most important recruit on the list. He would be our starting PG next year.

On one of the boards yesterday, someone was saying we are also going after JUCO combo guard Tyson Jolly to play PG. His film is pretty filthy. He went to Baylor out of HS as a top 100 player, then transferred to JUCO and was JUCO player of the year. I'm not sure of the circumstances surrounding his transfer. Maybe he just realized Waco sucked donkey balls and Baylor is a shit-tier institution. If we land Jolly, then then I would jump Quinones and Precious to the top of my wish list. Of those two, I would prefer Quinones. We have a lot of length and relatively decent depth at the forward positions. We need shooters.

Dawgs hosting multiple top targets this weekend

Another weekend of visitors are set to visit Athens this upcoming weekend and there is some big time targets in multiple classes expected in town.

Dawgs247 has confirmed some names and as usual this is NOT an official list and can change some as the weekend goes.

Darnell Washington – Five-Star TE from Las Vegas will be in town for the weekend. One source told me on Friday morning, “Georgia is in the lead here right now.”

Mike Wyman – Top 130 WR from North Carolina in the 2020 class.

Ethan Pouncey – Four-Star 2020 CB from Florida that UGA offered last weekend. He is legit 6-1.

Jahmyr Gibbs – 2020 RB from Dalton that is picking up offers and has got hot lately. He is strong in a 5-11, 180 pound frame.

Mason Garcia – Dawgs247 reported earlier in the 2020 QB from South Carolina will be in town and most believe this is a prospect that should rise in rankings sooner than later.

Jackson Muschamp – 2020 QB from South Carolina and yes he is the son of South Carolina Head Coach Will Muschamp.

John Young – 2020 four-star OL from Kentucky that recently received an offer from Sam Pittman.

Terrance Ferguson – Talented 2021 OL from Peach County that already has a UGA offer and attended almost every home game this fall.

Justin Robinson – 2020 WR that is a MAJOR target for UGA. Ran well at their camp last year in a 6-3.5 frame. He can commit anytime he wants too at this time.

    6COMMENTS
Mekhail Sherman – The Number Two rated outside linebacker in the country for the 2020 class from DC, tweeted on Friday he is already on campus.

We are working to confirm more as the weekend goes on.
