Not sure what we would have got for him. We got a 3rd for him 2 years ago. Hes 2 years older now and not having as good of a season. Last year he was traded for Jussi Jokinen and a former 4th round pick who wasnt a big time prospect.
Strange, is he just sick of moving around? It's interesting that he'd choose to stick around on one of the worst teams in the league as opposed to going to one of the best.
I remember an interview of his a while back saying he was happy to get a NTC because it was getting hard moving his family and kids every year and liked living in the area
I think it is very alive still. Holland will see out his contract and then Yzerman to take over the following year would be my guess. I don’t know where that leaves Stevie for next year now that he’ll be free from Tampa. Would be nice if Blashill would take a one year extension to sync up with Holland. As mentioned it’ll probably be two years
As much as Hughes and Kakko are amazing prospects and we could really use either of them, but damn we need to basically replace our whole D in next 2 years and we could really use a top end defensive prospect
Two 1st line centers is a near must to win the cup. You get two of those and the D will want to come.
When will we realistically start signing free agents, and have the cap room? Next summer? Free agent class isn’t that great this year at defense.
Larkin needs to quit this stupid fighting shit. Ericsson has one use anymore and that’s fighting. He better go after Kulak in a few weeks.
UFA: Erik Karlsson Jacob Trouba Tyler Myers RFA: Ryan Murray Nakita Zadorov Zach Werenski Ivan Provorov Travis Sanheim
After next year https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings And really, his cap is only meaningful in the offseason. Same with Z.
I'll forever be grateful for him for the 9 goals he put up in the sweep of the Avs on our way to the Cup in 2008.
I’m trying to watch more highlights of 19 prospects, and the more I watch Hughes, the more I’m infatuated by Zegras. Now don’t get me wrong, Hughes is #1 and Kakko is #2, but I am starting to think Zegras is my guy out of that 3-7 range.
I would have lost my shit if I was an Avs fan watching that series play out. What a heater he had that playoff run.
College free agents is something I hope the Wings look at in the coming months. Typically these guys are not elite difference makers but there are a couple really interesting guys. Taro Hirose: Junior at Michigan State who is leading the nation in scoring on a not good team. He's an undersized playmaker. He's only a junior so he could come back to school but I would guess you want to strike while the iron is hot and sign a pro deal now Dante Fabbro: Former first round draft pick by Nashville. Nashville is loaded on the blue line and he may decide to not sign with them and become a FA. I do not know on the exact timing on how this all works.
based on comments by Jeff Marek it sounds like Fabbro has a good chance of spurning Nashville. I believe that he mentioned an issue with playing time in Nashville, so hopefully, the Wings have a shot with such a wide-open blueline after next year.
That’s correct I believe. He could choose not to sign with Nashville after his college season is over, go back to college for next season and become a FA in June 2020 Another option would be to cut a trade if Nashville has any indication he won’t sign
Whenever Tampa’s season ends is when Illitch will make the request for permission. Of course that might only be a few weeks before his deal is officially up, but even a few weeks would be fantastic heading into the FA meeting window.
Still share your opinion that we're gonna drop bags for Karlsson, might not get him but no one will outbid us.
I do think that a more prudent move might be dealing a pick for the rights to Trouba. I just don’t see how Winnipeg can fit him into their plans long term. I also assume that Trouba will wait until December to sign a one year deal if he isn’t moved or signed long term. The issue becomes compensation. Not sure I am ready to give up next years first for Trouba.
