So I haven't bought new cards until recently....wtf are short prints and how do you identify them? Are they more valuable? Trying to look this shit up online...

I only got 1 topps heritage blaster box so I didn't know better, but I guess the one I got was a hot box where every pack had a purple chrome refractor in it (one was an Ohtani). Pretty awesome!

Yes. All the time. Their hope is that someone will come on and want the card/item so badly that they don't care what it costs. There is one seller in particular on eBay that will list the modern day National Treasures Football RPA's for like $600 or best offer when the card is worth $50

Short prints are cards that have a print run less than the regular base cards. In terms of how to identify them, that can sometimes be difficult because Topps doesn't make them terribly noticeable. Easiest way on Topps products is to look at the serial number at the bottom of the back of the card. Every card should have the same serial number unless it's an SP. For example, in 2018 Topps Update, all the regular cards end in '990', but the SP's end in '030'. The other way to tell is that Topps using a lot of action shots in their product, the SP's are more candid shots. Topps Heritage is exactly the opposite lol. Heritage has candid shots for the base cards (that look like they're at a spring training practice facility) and the SP's are action shots and different font color for the team logo. Look on the back of the Heritage cards, the SP's will be labeled under the Card # located on the back, top left corner with something like "Action", "Team Color", "Color Swap"

PSA all the way. To illustrate how much more people value PSA over BGS, a BGS 9.5 of that Barkley sells for $350-400. The PSA 10 sells for $800-1000. Gimme PSA 9 over BGS 9.5 all day.

The 9.5 edges grade on that Barkley is a joke. The etching on the right edge alone should take it to a 9 sub-grade.

I'm done with BGS stuff. They just aren't reputable. My brother bought a Raw Card Review 9.5 Gem Mint card the other day off eBay and when we looked it over it had surface scratches all over the place. The thing was probably a 7 or 7.5.

Have a signed Carl Yastrzemski ball that my grandpa gave me. As far as stuff that might have value I think that's it.

I do have a Paul O'Neill ball too, but it's on a cheap ball so I'm sure it's worth nothing except the memory. I was at a game as a kid with my dad. We had great seats. Right on the field at the old Marlins stadium, first base line courtesy of a family friend. Guy sitting next to us claims he and O'Neill were roommates in the minors and were friends. He asked me if I liked Oneill and of course I say yes. He calls over a ball boy and says "go tell O'Neill that Guy wants to see him".

Sure enough, O'Neill looks over at us and comes over. Him and Guy talked for a few minutes and then he introduced me and I got a ball signed. Pretty random, but 11 year old me was pretty excited about it.

Currently sifting through some boxes of cards I haven't looked at in 30+ years. Should mostly be commons but for some reason it still pleases the fuck out of me thumbing through them. I have a box of 92 Bowman that should still have the Hoffman and Rivera rookies in it.

Awesome, I'm gonna read all 19 pages because I'm bored. I checked my ebay history and I noticed I have purchased one card from them (marketplacessi), a Tony Gywnn rookie.

Ordered a loupe earlier tonight, I'm gonna start grading the graders and handing out report cards.

I have had issues in the past (and recently) buying from Probstein123. He runs a consignment so some of the cards aren't even his but I've had several instances where high-end cards arrived in terrible condition with noticeable flaws that aren't disclosed in the listing. I bought 2 cards recently and both arrived in horrendous condition. One was a Cam Newton National Treasures RPA. It would have graded at a 3 or 4. It looked like someone dropped a 5 pound weight on the back of the card. It really bothers me when people try to sell a card with obvious flaws in hopes that the buyer doesn't look it over closely and see it upon arrival.

He accepted returns and gave a full refund, which I appreciated, but I no longer buy from him.

There can be value but they've gotta be graded in good condition. It's a shame all the signature cards we grew up on aren't worth much but they'll always have value to me.

Bought a box of 2015 Panini Prizm Draft Picks football recently. It was the cheapest real box on Blowout. All of the players are in their college jerseys. Hit a Landon Collins camo prizm RC auto/199, a regular camo prizm Tyler Lockett/199, a Jimmy Graham stained glass card plus DJ and TG3 rookies. Fun break. Lots of silver prizms. Got an Antonio Gates Kent State card where he's in his basketball jersey and his position is listed as Forward lol

Auction places are a joke, the ones on ebay (pwcc, probstein123, etc) use shill bidders to drive prices up and create a feeding frenzy.

These people are only fucking themselves. They're paying to list and IIRC they pay a percentage of the final price.

Just put a fucking reserve on if you don't want it selling for less than you think it's worth.

It's minor in comparison to what they make running their scam. There's plenty of info out there if you want to read up on what those auction places do, it's no secret. One of biggest ones is local to me.

    2017 Topps Gallery
    2018 Bowman Hightek (x2)
    2018 Bowman's Best
2018 Topps Archive Retired Signature Series
    2018 Topps Archive Current
    2018 Topps Stadium Club (x2)

I'll probably get about $20 worth of cards but the excitement is so worth it.

Well this is awkward. I grew up in Seattle and have met Jay Buhner hundreds of times, I have personalized items he's signed to me so I'm very familiar with his signature.

Two cards below, from the same set/series pulled from packs, two completely different autographs. The first one is 100% Jay's auto, I don't know what's going on with the second one.

I have no interest in reselling, certain cards just bring back memories. I also have some sort of mental deficiency that doesn't allow me to only have one of things I like.
