If you're planning a road trip, you're already planning around certain stops anyway. It's not like it requires a huge amount of extra brain power to think about where to charge the electric car you bought knowing that it needs to be charged at charging stations instead of gas stations

And that's fine for a lot of people. It's not for a lot too. That's my only point.

The logic leap that this is an immensely impractical issue means an EV isn't for you. Nothing really to do with Tesla.

I agree the 50 minute stops are now too long but the point of the topic was that moving that down to 20-25 is really much.more reasonable and makes longer road trips feasible with an EV.

Taking a 10 minute stop to 25 isn't bad at all

Again, it wouldn't be an issue for me. I'm also aware that there's a large segment of the population that are tech savvy enough to do that. Its laughable that you cant grasp that being a turnoff for some people bc it's not for you.

When I drive from here to Mobile, which is 6 hours, I dont plan any stops. I stop when my gas light goes off. If i had a Tesla, I'd stop in Tally. That's fine with me. I understand people not wanting to plan around a fill up and shying away from an electric car on a long trip though.

By the way of presentations of the e-tron, the German manufacturer said that the customer deliveries in Europe will start in March, which is another delay from previously announced February, and already several months behind the original schedule. In the U.S., first e-trons are expected in the second quarter.

This was already after they said “volume production at the end of 2018”

Again other people can drive other cars, even if you reduce that market (if you think that’s a hindrance) they still have a large market to sell cars too and it will only grow while older people move on.

Personally the future looks bright for a US automaker, thats nice to see.

This is where I think you are in the extreme minority. Driving 6 hours straight sounds miserable and to do the same with V3 charging in an electric car would just require a short break.

Does it really? They just closed all stores and they are laying off people left and right. That's not a great sign. I agree that EV is a market that can grow in the future. Just not sure Tesla will be the one do do it. Hope they do make it though as it's good for the EV market.

So a lot of misinformation posted by GK

Not all stores closed just a majority, prominent galleries would stay open. Doesn’t affect service centers which will continue to be built out.

80% of their cars were purchased online, at what point is having 300 stores worth it if your customer buys online. Plus it gets rid of the stupid dealer franchise law problem that still happens in most states.

I just never saw the point in stopping. It's different now that I have a kid. Only made the drive once since having here and we did have to stop twice for her. Neither were in Tally though so it still would have been another stop.

For sure, I get it. To me it’s a small trade off you make for a handful of times a year. What’s not talked about? How you never have to stop at a gas station again during your normal work week, you drive home and charge the next morning your car is topped off and good to go. Eliminates the weekly fill up that not only saves money but time.

He didn't post that info. I did. I thought it was all, but I guess they are leaving a few open in the big markets. I realize most were ordered online, but what % of those online orders were from people that went to a store and drove one? I would think most people would want to drive something before spending that much money on one. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Again they reported something like 78% of people bought without a test drive. Definitely a millennial thing but I think most interact with friends and family and experienced it. But I don’t blame you I’d 100% want a test drive and just because some stores are closing doesn’t mean they aren’t offering test drives any longer.

It's a niche market. Everyone understands that.

You're making arguments as to why it is a niche market, which is what everyone understands when buying an EV.

It's kinda stupid and pointless tbqh

You then complained that it would be too difficult to find one, which is retarded and not close to the original argument.

There's more to it than just GPS. If I drive from her to Mobile, I have to stop in Tally to charge. What if I didn't want to stop there? What if I wanted to stop in Mariana bc I like the burger place there? Or maybe I want to stop at the Busy Bee in Madison b c my wife likes their honey they have there? Nope, has to be Tally now or I have to make an extra stop. It's not just knowing where they are. It's having to built your route around where you can stop to get charged.

It amazes me that you can't grasp why some people would prefer to not have to stop at one specific exit rather than wherever they want.

It's gonna grow for sure, especially at tech keeps improving and there are more than 1 main product.

It'll be interesting to see places like QT or pilot starting to house EV super charging stations when the demand is there then the game will change

Theres going to be a point where EV eats away enough market share where it starts to affect gas prices, it may be 5 years from now or 3 but it will be an interesting day. Wish there were more people jumping into the space besides the chinese.

Obviously a Tesla isn't ideal for your only vehicle. You can make the stops and do the trips but it's not as efficient as a gas vehicle currently. It's not that you can't do it. It's just less convenient. I don't think that's an unreasonable take.

He said he couldn't understand why someone would take an EV on a trip.

That's his opinion. He has his own reasoning. Planning around where to stop isn't a big deal to you. It may be to him. Waiting for 30 minutes to charge may not be a big deal to you. It may be to him.

Instead of grasping this, you come in telling him why he's wrong and why an EV car is perfectly fine for a long trip and you won't hear any other arguments. It would work for you so everyone else is wrong.

It's fucking weird how homer you are for Tesla.

I think it's gonna be longer than that mainly bc the cycle of cars and the affordability right now. Only a small portion will buy EV cars when they get a new vehicle.

But the tech in 5 years will be leaps and bounds above what we have now that it'll keep driving market share across all companies
