If you guys are down on Hockenson, I don’t know what to tell you. Dude reminds me of Jason witten and will be a 12 year pro and several time pro-bowler. Iowa fucking sucks, but they put out great blocking lineman, and Hockenson is that. He is also going l be a 60 catch a year dude. Remember, Fant is athletic as fuck and Hockenson still unseated him as the focus of the passing game. Iowa also has a history of putting out good tight-ends. I’m a Nebraska fan, I hate Iowa, but they put out a lot of good pros, Hell, some of the Packers best players the last 10 years have been Iowa players.
I’m just tired of seeing Rodgers have all of about 2 seconds to make a throw or our defense giving up 40 plus. I’m all for taking elite player in the first no matter the position but there going to be a good bit to pick from at 12. I’m more worried we take a TE at 12 then drop the ball with our other picks.
This frees up what they have to do in the draft. Pass rusher still lines up as a need but if there is a guy they like better they don't have to force it.
If the right guy is there I think you still can, but only if one slips that you don't expect to and it is clear BPA. Remember both of the Smith's will probably have two guaranteed years, if you can get a stud that will still be cheap beyond then you do it. We hope to not be drafting up this high again for a long time.
I agree, this just ensures that we won't have to reach for a borderline 1st round talent at edge w/ No. 12 where as there would've been pressure to draft a guy there despite more talented players slipping due to the eventual QB craze that happens in the first.
The Billy Turner deal is a lot of money. Love the Amos signing/money. The Smiths were expensive but we couldn't go into next year with Kyler Fackrell as Edge No. 1
The draft is now the most exciting one I can remember since they got Raji and Clay. The options are all there, you can attack this draft in a ton of different ways. I really would love to land a tight-end because I think it absolutely would be huge for Rodgers up the middle of the field.
I think they still think they can do everything they wan for 2019 in this scenario and now they are free next year. Would the post June 1 cut left them on the hook for paying the $5 million bonus he was due coming up? I know we just care about salary cap implications but it's still a lot of money to pay out just for the hell of it. This way the implications are just accounting differences
It also sounds, with the way the contracts are structured, the Packers still have the potential to make another splash (splash in a small pond, not a big one) if they see value in the right area still. We have 4 years of Rodgers. It seems they are banking on these next 2-3 for that final big push. If it doesn’t work out, crash and burn and hope to land another stud when Rodgers gets to be old.
Athletic article on if we packaged picks to move up where we could get The Stuart model looks a bit too optimistic
Rodgers tribute to Cobb was pretty awesome. Bak also had a nice message to Cobb & the Claymaker. Both will always be Packers. In honor of both, two of the biggest plays of my Packers fandom. Can still remember running down the street after the first and I was 2 blocks away from the stadium celebrating, and hugging one of my best friends like a crazy man in the second. Great memories.
