Not mentioned in the pod. He pretty much just thinks people treat Trump unfairly and him sucking up to Trump allows Graham to be "relevant." Which was a weird word to use. He seemed to like having Trump call him. He likes feeling important.
Pete has a good anecdote that addresses this point, about his run for Mayor in a conservative state that produced a guy like Pence. He talks about sensing a bit of relief in conservative folks who felt empowered to voice their approval of the LGBT community by voting for Pete. Now how that would play out on the national scene with the full force of the right wing media coming after him, I don't know. But I think it's clear the right has lost the national fight on most all social issues, and it could probably be argued the positives aspects of a gay candidate outweigh the "negative" aspects.
