It’s ok if you disagree, it just felt like a horse riding simulator to me

I loved this game being a change of pace from other games. Somewhat realistic travel times to other cities makes it feel authentic to me. I like that the game encouraged and even in some spots required it.

I watched a video last night that kinda touches on this point and how it was done by design by Rockstar.

Open world game developers have what they call “the 40 second rule” which means that in an open world an interactive experience needs to occur every 40 seconds. With RDR2, rockstar pushed that rule to 80 seconds in an attempt to further immerse the player.

Good for those who desire a full on immersive experience, bad for guys like me who like to keep their fingers moving.

I also want to be clear that I had issues with major moments in the story.

Arthur’s TB diagnosis lacked punch to me. Didn’t effect me whatsoever.

The Waipiti story arch felt rushed and I never truly felt like the “friendship” between the tribe and Arthur felt realistic. Made for some beautiful moments and scenes but the dialogue felt hollow.

The fight to (the demise of my beloved Jalen Horts seemed like a quick cheese moment) the ridge, on the ridge and Arthur’s subsequent demise didn’t hit home like I felt they should have (outside of the passing of the hat and satchel) with how I felt about Arthur. I was sad and disappointed at the same time.

I’ll never forgive Rockstar for the end of Mt Hagen.

I do still play CoD just because I still manage to be pretty good at it and at my age being good at something competitive is rare.

My GOTY last year (and this console generation) was GOW. I love the Souls games more than anything. RDR is a top 5 game for me. I like probably a ton of what most itt like but RDR2 just didn’t get it done for me.

I just found a frozen couple holding a panoramic map. Where the major cities should be it's just big white circles.

I enjoy finding random shit while riding around. I still haven’t finished the story.

I'm restarting the game so I can free roam as Arthur again. Maybe it's because I never played RDR1, but Marston does nothing for me.

True story, I almost talked myself into liking the story of this game tonight based on the fact that Jim Milton gets all that sweet revenge in RDR but then I talked myself out of it based on the fact he was forced to get that revenge.

They just put in some mind mumbling painfully slow shit for the sake of "immersion" that is simply unnecessary.

Like to give one example why do I have to crawl at a snails pace when I'm inside the camp? It's a goddamn chore to get around for no reason.

Another painfully annoying thing is the witness system. I like the idea but it was deeply flawed. Can't tell you how many times I'm riding my horse in Saint Denis and some jackass dives head first into my horse's path at the last second and then everyone in town starts shooting at me.

The main thing that ruins the game though is there is no motivation to make money. The whole game revolves around making money whether its robbing hunting or fishing but they give you like 1000 dollars for an early story mission and it just breaks the economy. I had everything I needed with that amount for like 70% of the game

You say stuff like this, but then people bitched about how hard it was to earn money early in the online system. If the story mode would have been like that, it would have had plenty of people pissed off.

    People just like to bitch.

Comon dude the online was a predatory scheme to make you buy microtransactions.

It's not that hard to balance the economy where it's fair but challenging. The reason GTA 5 was successful despite because they had Apartments/planes/motorcycles/cars/etc. RDR2 doesn't have those types of options so it makes the money pretty pointless after you get a decent horse/gun

Just checked twitter and saw this is trending. How did it get turned into a race thing? Makes no sense. The song has 0 elements of country music. Now, all the other songs on the billboard country charts are shit but that's what people consider country these days. I won't get into that here, though, as that has been covered plenty in the WTF Happened to country music thread.

Welp, just finished. A someone who played this game on day 1, lots to like and lots to dislike in this game. Most everything has been hit on.
I stopped and started a few times. The story was good but REALLY got tired of Dutch's "I have a plan bs" the entire game. The characters were amazing. Voice acting was great. The TB diagnosis felt like he was getting diagnosed with a cold. Didn't really feel anything. The endings were garbage. All the way from Arthur dying, to the farming simulator, then Dutch just walking away. The lack of fast travel was really disengaging, I know a lot of people liked it for the realism but for me it was always an easy stopping point bc I didn't want to wait 5 minutes to get across the map to finish a storyline.
Having to slowly walk around camp, Cooking only 1 meal at a time. Lost track of how many times I punched my horse or accidentally aimed the gun at someone, were all frustrating.
Losing my horse "Pestilence" at the end was more emotional than Arthur's death.
There were some incredible scenes though
    Torching the Braithewaite manor.
    Blowing up the bridge
    The KKK rally, ManBearPig
    The prison rescue of Marston
    The Kieran scene
Think I enjoyed RDR more, especially the ending. Not sure if I want to Tie up loose ends as John, Do an evil play through, or go back and play RDR again.
Didn't think I would enjoy playing as Arthur once I heard Martson's voice, but after playing thru the epilogue I want Arthur back :embarrassed:
    In love with Sadie.

Literally, at no point did I struggle with the controls of this game. How is that a gripe?

I wasn't crazy about the mechanics of dueling but that wasn't because I couldn't do it...it was just because the design was kind of lame(my only real gripe with the entire game).

I would have to assume you’re in the minority here. I’d imagine most players at some point or another pulled their gun when they didn’t want to or struggled getting to the weapons they desired.

Or raged at the game for leaving your gun on Jalen Horts or randomly switching what two revolvers you were carrying.

That article is one of the best articles I’ve ever read about gaming and nails every point I would make about RDR2.

The bit about having a button that showed you the temperature and your honor but not having a hot swap for your weapons is about as much as anyone who hasn’t played that bullshit game needs to know

Something I always thought about was how it was supposed to be realistic, meaning you had to keep Arthur fed and sleep and what not. I rarely ever ate and was always underweight, but all it seemed to do was prevent my dead eye bar from reaching max potential.

They should have never put that in the game in the first place, tho.

This is a slippery slope. They touched on realism here, without going too far.

Before the game came out, we all saw the list of features, and there was a lot of worry that it would be too much...having to keep your horse fed, brushed, feeding yourself, etc. They made it have some affect without it being a nuisance.

There was no pleasing everyone, basically. It was going to be too realistic for some, not realistic for a smaller group, but I think it hit the mark for the majority.

Brushing the horse was really annoying. And even after going through water with him, it still popped the brush icon.
