Was messing around with the PWR calc on collegehockeyranked.com and unless we get Minnesota in the first rd of the b1g tournament I don't think we can make NCAAs this year. Rabid
Minnesota is playing for the best path to winning the B1G tourney. Hopefully it is the opposite side of the bracket from PSU. We match up better with teams like ND & OSU that are less aggressive on the forecheck.
UND handles #3 Duluth 4-1 tonight. Crappy weather and roads so I watched the game at home tonight....I'll head up tomorrow to watch UND "earn" the split. A lot of work left to get in position for an at large spot in the National Tournament. #19 currently in the pairwise...wins against #1, #4, #5, #6, and #10 aren't enough to overcome the anchor of losing 2 to #55.
Northeastern with a 6-3 W at UNH to hit the 20-win mark for a second straight year. NU has never done that before Jim Madigan for President
Split with ND after choking away a 2 goal lead on Friday night. We are done with B1G play so we just have to watch scores next week to see if we get home ice. This was fun.
NU with a 6-0 W at UNH. Jeremy Davies with two goals and two assists. He's such a stud this team can be really dangerous if Primeau gets hot
Ended up with the split. Lost 3-2 to Duluth tonight...they scored 2 goals on 5 on 3 power plays....can't put ourselves in that position. We actually moved up a spot to #18 in pairwise but have no room for error the rest of the way to get home ice and move into a better spot in pairwise. At CC next weekend and then home for Omaja....need all 4.
How is Arizona State supposed to be an NCAA tournament team? They're cheap and shitty. They've spent about 10 minutes in the 3rd period in the box including 2 5-on-3 power plays. One guy took a penalty within 15 seconds of coming out of the penalty box... and make that a 3rd 5-on-3 as I was typing this. Edit: 5-1 final. Shots on goal 42-15 and as PSU can attest this Gopher D is susceptible to giving up a lot of shots. And it was 7 penalties in the 3rd period. I can’t recall ever seeing anything like it. It was like watching slap shot.
BC with a 3-1 home W over Northeastern boys better take care of business tomorrow night at Matthews Arena
To paraphrase Denny Green....ASU is who we thought they were. Good for them for winning enough games against mid tier teams this year to qualify for the tournament, and it will be exciting for college hockey and hopefully get a few other teams to pull the trigger and make the move to add hockey.....that said, they would be a 7th or 8th place team in the NCHC.
If Arizona can come up with a donor I think they will. Already have an arena in place so it's not quite the obstacle like PSU that needed $90m to start up. ASU needs a decent home though. The Tempe arena with the Coyotes falling through was a big loss. I admittedly don't follow them at all except when they play PSU but splitting their home schedule between an ice rink and Gila River doesn't seem sustainable long-term. I went to the games when PSU was out here last season and there were maybe 1k in the arena. Needless to say, it wasn't a great atmosphere.
NU got the split vs BC, winning 4-2 tonight thanks to 41 saves from Primeau. His third game of the year with 40+ saves regular season wraps up Friday vs New Hampshire
I was just laughing at that. They didn’t include the potential ticket as part of season tickets so every buyer had to come this week and it’s competing with HS hockey tourney (as well as a Gopher B-ball game and Wild road game at the same time). I read the ticket sales this morning were under 2k. Here is Mariucci vs the HS hockey (top right)
lol BC congrats on your 7th-place finish in the Hockey East standings Maine and BU play today in their season finales but otherwise things are wrapped up Hockey East tourney format was overhauled for this year, details below: In a departure from the format of the last few years, just eight of the 11 teams will qualify for the 2019 Hockey East tournament. The top four teams in the league standings will host seeds five through eight on campus in the quarterfinals in the first round of the playoffs, while the remaining teams will be eliminated from championship contention. The four quarterfinal winners will be reseeded again as they advance to the TD Garden in Boston for the semifinals and Championship Game.
Well with my squad firmly on the bubble and currently doing the Planes, Trains, and Automobiles bit to get to Denver due to the weather and needing to somehow win 2 games over the Pioneers this weekend I will have an eye on the rest of the scoreboard...here is how I would like to see it shake out. Atlantic Hockey RIT at Sacred Heart Army at AIC Niagara at Air Force Robert Morris at Bentley Doesn't really matter who wins this tournament as whoever wins it will not have any effect on any other teams getting in or getting left out(1 bid league no matter how it shakes out), so might as well root for Air Force just for the Frank Serratore Press Conferences. ECAC Union at Cornell Brown at Quinnipiac Dartmouth at Harvard Yale at Clarkson Quinnipiac is a lock for the NCAA tournament so it would be alright with me if they win their conference tourney. I would like to see Cornell knock Union from contention this weekend plus a good friend of mine has a kid who is a D-man for Cornell. Would love to see Dartmouth upset Harvard and Yale upset Clarkson this weekend. Hockey East Maine at Northeastern BC at Providence UNH at Massachusetts BU at Mass-Lowell Massachusetts, Northeastern, and Providence are all in solid position to make the NCAA tourney so I wouldn't mind them all moving on this weekend to avoid any drama. Don't care who wins between BU and Lowell as long as they lose next weekend. BIG 10 Minnesota at Notre Dame Penn State at Ohio State Go Buckeyes. Anyone else wins this and that could potentially take an at large bid away. As dirty as it makes me feel I am pulling for Minnesota to beat Notre Dame this weekend to all but remove them from the at large picture as long as the Gophs lose next weekend. Keep this at a 1 bid conference. WCHA BGU at NMU LSSU at Minnesota State-Mankato Pulling for Mankato and NMU this weekend and Mankato next weekend to keep this at a 1 bid league. NCHC Miami at SCSU CC at WMU UNO at UMD UND at DU SCSU and UMD are in so might as well have them move on this weekend. Denver is still likely to make it even if UND beats them this weekend so hopefully that happens. WMU is the wildcard here as they would be in a tough spot if they lose. Since they could still make it with a loss and likely still be ahead of UND I am hoping they win so that if UND does make it to St. Paul next weekend they would have the benefit of playing high ranked teams so that going 1-1 in St. Paul could still possibly get them in as an at large. If everything goes as I would like it this weekend, the pairwise would look like this going into next weekend. 1 St Cloud St 2 Massachusetts 3 MSU-Mankato 4 (5) Quinnipiac 5 (4) Minnesota-Duluth 6 Ohio State 7 (8) Northeastern 8 (9) Providence 9 (12) Cornell 10 (7) Denver 11 (10) Arizona State 12 (13) Western Michigan 13 (18) North Dakota 14 (11) Clarkson 15 Notre Dame
The odd thing is that Minnesota only had 2 sweeps within the conference all season. The sweeps were @ Notre Dame and @ Ohio State. We match up better against teams that play a more structured game like these two than teams like PSU with a strong forecheck.
True. I agree Minnesota's D-men do not like being hurried and pressured in their own end but do a decent job when they have time and space to skate or make breakout passes.
The series @ PSU their D didn't do shit. PSU was just posting up around the net wherever they wanted without being pressured.
Northeastern with a 2-1 OT W over Maine thanks to 41 saves by Cayden Primeau 24th win of the year, third most in program history...a year after losing Gaudette, Sikura and Stevens. Jim Madigan, baby
What a terrible way to end the season. Minnesota just lost in OT after an abysmal penalty call 31 seconds in to OT. I’ll post a clip when somebody uploads it to Twitter. Edited to add:
Welp. First time in a long time that I don't have to wait and see how all the conference tournaments shake out to figure out if UND is in and where they are going....I guess I should be making tee times but it is probably going to be May before that is happening around here. Guess I will jump on the SCSU and Mankato bandwagons.
Northeastern with 25 wins on the year, tied for the most in program history Hockey East semifinals should be alright
They never said on the telecast. I’ve seen it referenced as hooking but it really just looks like Sheehy lifted his stick. It was a bad way to end a competitive game.
If the ref would have tried to justify it as an interference call I would be more sympathetic to the call...still wrong but could maybe buy that penalty if the ref was horribly out of position.
