Is Riverbend still big in the summer? Looks like it's a 4-day event now. https://riverbendfestival.com/lineup/
It is still a huge gathering of rednecks and adolescents but supposedly overall attendance has been down. First I've heard of shortening it
Riverbend has struggled the past couple of years hence the shortening. Not sure why so many people hate it. I have seen a lot of great shows there and if there is nothing i like i just dont go. Also helps I have not paid to get in ever. Weezer is playing one of the nights.
Never paid once as a kid after helping Knights of Columbus with tickets. Looking forward to the inevitable REO Speedwagon headliner announcement soon.
They shortened it to 4 days because 9 wasn’t just unfeasable. The acts were usually 2nd rate or has beens because they didn’t have the funding to grab big names. Everyone is all about Moon River now anyway.
Interesting. Riverbend used to occupy approx the same place on the calendar that Moon River does now. Used to be around the beginning of the school year. Maybe late August?
I've never been, but I thought it was in June. I think I remember saying, "The state is rolling in tax dollars with CMA, Bonnaroo, and Riverbend going on this week."
I honestly don't hate the changes. I'm hoping the increased ticket prices mean better acts, fewer rednecks, and fewer kids roaming around and taking up space. The Strut should also be improved being moved to October and being put on by the Bessie Smith Center, who has already said they want to do it bigger than it has been. Also, if Dixie Fuller is still working with Friends of the Festival next year, I'm saying Phish will be one of the headliners.
It has been in June for quite a while now. It was in late summer when it first started in the 80s and I think into the 90s?
It’s in June but is moving to May because it was losing in competition to Bonnaroo which historically has occurred at the same time.
I'll be passing through early on Saturday to watch UK vs UT. Any breakfast recommendations not that far off the interstate? Looking for something different than Cracker Barrel to take my dad . I'm thinking Maple St Biscuit Co in Hamilton Place. I tried the downtown location this summer.
There is one nearby in Atlanta. There are several First Watches in the northern burbs too. Where should I eat lunch tomorrow in Brainerd or around the airport?
Champys is awesome as is Rain if you’re into Thai. I really like Sweet Basil Thai as well. It’s over there too.
I must be one of the only people in Chatt that does not like Rain at all. Also, if you are wanting a meat and 3 type place Marsha's on Brainerd Rd behind Lamplight Liquor is good.
Appreciated; however, my grandmother cooked me a steak, baked potato, greens, and cole slaw with lemon black tea.
Was going to hit up Bluegrass this morning, but when we got downtown there was road blockage because of a 5k or something. Audibled to Maple St Biscuit in Hamilton Place. I was heartbroken that don't sell the Twisted Hot Sauce anymore. Five and Dime was excellent. Stopped at the Pickle Barrel on the way home for a Rueben and pickles
If anyone is interested in watching high school and college kids compete in things like Automotive, Carpentry, Plumbing, Diesel, etc., come down to the Convention Center in April 2. Pretty fun stuff.
Headed over for a few days tomorrow morning — staying at an AirBnb next to Sugers that overlooks the city. First agenda is Terra Nostra.
Still is. Downtown is so much different. Kind of hate it. The amount of $$$ spent on Miller Park is an outrage. I miss the old crusty bars.
FYI, if anyone is a fan of Shufords BBQ they are in a bit of trouble. The city/state has made them close the building to customers. They are still taking call in orders and could really use the business. Jeff is a great guy and the quotes he has for remedying the problem are outrageous.
I’m assuming this is due to the landslide that destroyed the Subway at the foot of Signal Mtn due to all the rain?
Yes. Jeff told me that there has been two slides that affected his building with the last one in 2004. Not saying for sure or anything but I would be surprised if they don't close the business in the current location.
That’s sad. When I lived on Signal we got their BBQ all the time. Even after moving off the mountain my parents got their turkeys smoked there for Thanksgiving. Good business. Where would they potentially move?
I have no insider knowledge and hope they can get this resolved with the authorities. They have a store in Soddy Daisy that does well. The quote I heard to remedy the issue was in the 300k range.
We ended up being super sick the whole time and just hung out in our AirBnB except for hitting up some places and barely being able to enjoy ourself (TN, Hair of the Dog, Mayan Kitchen, Il Primo and Taco Mac) but our place was great so it wasn’t all bad: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/250268...VfkG9GD5U&_branch_match_id=635185474243251952 I also made this ridiculous birthday casserole for my gf because she doesn’t care about cake:
Food recs? Coming down tomorrow for the day. Any good Indian or Thai? Saw a couple taco places mentioned
