Just got a Kamado Joe Big Joe that was never used for a grand. My co-worker stumbled across it on facebook and took care of payment for me and has secured it. Coming home next week.
As far as I can tell all they did was add technology they already had in certain grills to more of them
that's what it looked like, but i don't know enough about traegers to say for sure. if that's all it was, their *BIG* announcement is a bit of a dud
I can do all of those things with my Rec tec and my Rec-Tec is made of stainless steel, and it doesn’t look like that traeger is.
My bull which is 2” wider than the Timberline is $800 cheaper than the Timberline, and the hopper for pellets is nearly twice as big, and the traeger only allows one meat probe, mine does two.
No idea if they ever figured out how to fix them with firmware updates, but the Timberline series had several problems when they were released around two years ago. I would never pay for anything Traeger.
Can someone post the smoked corn beef recipe? Was it the Stubbs recipe posted last year? I think it was
Big fan of this recipe. Just used it last week on some corned beef I picked up from Costco. Came out perfect. https://howtobbqright.com/2017/03/17/smoked-pastrami/
Seriously considering getting into the Rec Tec game. Stampede seems the best fit for me. Which accessories are must haves? Cursory research leads me toward searing kit and second shelf but not sure I need anything else.
I've never used my second shelf but I have it. I also have the 680 though so all my shit fits fine. I'd get the searing kit
Haven’t been in the thread in months because I was remodeling my house and didn’t have my egg. 1st page back and all I see is meat innuendos and rec tec posts. Glad to see nothing has changed.
I have the bull and I bought the fold up tray which I really like having, will probably get the seat plates next
The Bull and the Stampede are both really tempting... I don’t really understand why the stampede only has the 2 year warranty. I feel like the size with the stampede would be all I need and I like it’s $300 less. Were you between the two at all?
How are the rec tecs when it comes to actually grilling? Can you get hot enough? I have a friend looking to get a grill/smoker for a lake house and he's currently asking about traegers and I know that's one of the issues with traegers is they struggle to get hot enough to actually grill
What are you gunna do with it? My first thought is get a pellet, you already have the BGE Not sure what advantages the little one would give you
I have a gas grill as well, I find temps over 450 on the Rec tec are tough to achieve, so I primarily use it as a smoker, although I’ll grill corn and other stuff on it as well.
Spend money? I would use the mini-max primarily for tailgating but I suppose the pellet would just be an extension of the BGE. I don’t need either and I’m not trying to “do” anything specific, just have options.
I'm just asking because they're so different. Like a mini max is good for taking somewhere and grilling 1 steak or like two pork chips. A pellet grill is best for long smokes
Cheap first smoker: Pellet (Green Mountain Davey Crockett) or propane (smoke vault)? Note - I understand the size limitations of either and do not want charcoal at this point.
Wasn't sure if those were accepted here or not...I've read through the first 50 pages and everything other than charcoal was strongly discouraged. Got curious when I saw Rec Tec talk.
Speaking of, any tips/ diagrams, etc for cutting a whole into a half chicken and making it a nice clean edge, like for a competition? I typically cut with a good pair of poultry shears. But there are always sharp edges along the back, and a bone on one breast half that gives me a hard time Trying to make it look pretty
