The third row can, at the very least, transport kids. In addition to both rear rows folding flat, it looks like the middle 2nd row folds down individually. That's great for transporting 4 people + long objects, like skis.

So more utility than a 3 and cheaper (arguably more practical as well) than an X.

People love SUVs and small cross overs. Aren't they they best selling class??

Just bc this isn't a massive innovation doesn't mean it isn't gonna be a money maker for tesla.

Ppl with kids probably use a 3rd row more than anyone/even adults. So maybe them? So it's and SUV-ish car that isn't 90k

Cmon dude. Don't be stupid. They effectively take all the trunk space with a 3rd row

Couldn't they have just made the backseats fold down an option on the 3 and gotten the same thing? They should have done something completely different. I just think the body style is too similar. Apple would have called it the 3 Plus, not an entirely new line.

the weirdest arguments occur in this thread. who fucking cares how many people got out of the car? who cares about the last row of seats of a car that isn't even going to be produced for a couple more years (if it's produced at all)?

let's instead laugh at the terrible presentation that last night was. compare it to when the company actually tried to engineer its products and not rush out its product launches in order to secure some cash deposits.

The backseats on the 3 do fold down, though it's a 60/40 instead of the outsides and middle being able to fold down individually. Still would be less volume due to the Y's popped-up design.

Last night was the first time I watched a Tesla presentation. And it was pretty awful, seemed very non-technical and unimpressive.

Then they still wouldn't have a car in the hottest car segment. I get that you don't like it but it's still a crossover SUV CUV whatever you want to call it in a segment where there's a ton of demand. And it is not a sedan

No, I'm fine with making a car in that segment. They just should have made something other than a 3 clone. Make it look like an SUV, not a sedan.

Aren't most small SUVs on the company's car line chassis then just a bit of a different body?

It's similar sure, pretty similar, but it's still considered in that class and will attract another set of buyers. Has enough "SUV qualities", is bigger, etc to set it apart.

Be interested to see what the height comes at as that's been some discussion here vs similar cars

The body looks the same as a 3. That's my point. I dont care that they share a chassis. There's literally no SUV qualities, which normally mean a higher clearance and a flat or flat-ish roof. It's a hatchback 3. Compare the way it looks to a Grand Cherokee or an Explorer. What quality does it share? It's really not even a Crossover, which normally looks like a baby SUV. This Y just a hatchback.

It's hilarious that you guys can look at those two side by side and say one is a sedan and one is an SUV. Its the same car. From the end of the back door forward the only difference is the Y has a little shorter front end. You guys will slurp up anything Tesla says. If they told you that car was red, you'd say it was red.

The only reason it'll be in that class is bc Tesla called it an SUV.

    Do this:

    Google image SUV
    Google image Crossover
    Google image hatchback

Tell me which one the Y most resembles.

It's not a hatch back. Hatch backs don't have a third row they don't even have anything after the backseat

Every media outlet is calling it a cross over SUV.

Take it up with them. They make the money and write about and and know more than you (your argument for everything else?)

The Y is closer to a Civic Hatchback.

Both have significantly more ground clearance. Y sits as low as the 3. Both of those should be Crossovers anyways.

Almost as if there aren't hard and fast rules when it comes to categorizing SUVs.

Everyone knows exactly what it is except you & you don't want to except it

It's not a Jeep Cherokee, they have that similar size in the X. It's near exact what numerous pictures have shown you as small SUV/CUV/Crossover that is driving the most popular segment

This shouldn't be so difficult. You're arguing against shit no one is saying

Exactly my point. You'd rather believe they ran some guy on stage for whatever reason than believe that the 7 people they showed all actually exited the vehicle.

For as much as you complain about "stans" and people being brainwashed, you have zero objectivity when it comes to Tesla.
