Day 23: 9 mile outdoor ride and 20 min yoga. Day 24: 6 mile run and two 5 min post run stretches. Hoping to do a 30+ outdoor ride tomorrow but today is the first day I am feel happy in a while. My Ma has been sick but that looks like it’s getting better. A love one of mine tried to take their life and got put on a 5150 hold but they are home and look to be doing better. So I am grilling and drinking to celebrate life. IF I am not hungover tomorrow I’ll ride if not oh well 24 days is good.
We joke a lot on this board and in this thread, but there is nothing more important than family and friends. Glad to hear the good news. Enjoy those drinks!
Thank you. Having some good steaks and my favorite bourbons. I just hugged and kissed my wife and told her I am so happy right now. FWIW it wasn’t her.
Gents, today was a big day for me as I reached rarified air, joining user Tony Wonder in the 45-minute 700+ output club. Day 26 of 30: Complete - 45 minute live DJ ride with Jess King and a new PR of 714. I’d like to thank God, Tim Tebow, and Jess King’s tits for distracting me from the dance “moves” of DJ John Michael who tried to douche chill me into submission.
Day 27 of 30 (yesterday): Complete - 30 minute metrics Day 28 of 30: Complete - 30 minute 90s ride with Jenn Sherman. Tomorrow is ride #200, so I need to find a live ride because I’m basic and want a shoutout.
Day 29 of 30: Complete - 30 minute Robin PyeongChang ride (first one) and a 30-minute PR with 448. I missed all the live rides today, and goddamnit I want my shout out, so I deleted an old ride to make this #199. Seems fitting that day 30 be #200 tomorrow.
Day 30 of 30: Complete - 30 minute intervals with Alex. No shoutout but a new 30-minute PR of 463. I can’t believe I did this for 30 straight days. Can’t wait to take tomorrow off!
Stupid question but do regular spin classes need to buy the rights to songs they use? Is it the size or the taped aspect that changes it if that’s not the regular way it’s done?
Thats not great, but how is this any different than an in house spin class using them? And they just launched the Apple Music partnership.
I don’t think it’s any different. The spin studio I used to go to just streamed playlists the instructors curated through Spotify. The difference is that Peloton is worth $400 million and my one-off studio in a Tampa suburb wasn’t.
Close. The docs say Peloton currently has more than 600k subscribers and is reported to be worth more than $4 BILLION Who knows if that number is accurate though.
I think I am on like day 75 in a row of working out. Granted some have been 30-45 miles n yoga workouts.
They probably have a license but there is disagreement over how they are using the music. Seems like the labels are calling this "broadcasting" the music vs just playing it in a bar/restaurant type license. There are smarter lawyers who will break this down in the coming days, I'm sure.
Several members of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) have collectively filed a lawsuit against fitness startup Peloton today, seeking over $150 million in damages. The complaint, filed by Downtown Music Publishing, Ultra Music, and eight other publishing groups, says that Peloton has been using their musical works for years in its workout videos without proper licensing, resulting in income lost for songwriters. The complaint says that Peloton does have some licenses in place with other labels and publishers, but not with the plaintiffs named in this suit. It alleges that Peloton has “used more than 1,000 musical works owned or administered by Plaintiffs over a period of years in the videos that it makes available to its hundreds of thousands of customers without a synchronization (or “sync”) license.” In one instance, the company allegedly “obtained a license for a limited time but then let that license expire, while continuing to use Ultra’s copyrighted works.” Some of the works the complaint says Peloton is using without proper licensing include “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Only Girl” by Rihanna, “Drip” by Migos and Cardi B, and “Bangarang” by Skrillex and Sirah, as listed in the complaint. “Music is a core part of the Peloton business model and is responsible for much of the brand’s swift success,” said NMPA president and CEO David Israelite said in a statement. “Thousands of exclusive videos and playlists are a major reason hundreds of thousands of people have purchased Peloton products.” Reached by The Verge, Peloton emphasized that it has an extensive licensing system and has partnered with a number of music-industry groups. “We just received the complaint this morning, and we are evaluating it,” a representative from Peloton told The Verge. “Peloton has great respect for songwriters and artists. In fact, we have partnered with each of the major music publishers, record labels and performing rights organizations, and many leading independents. We have also invested heavily to build a best-in-breed reporting and licensing system to support our partners and provide our members with a world-class fitness experience.” The NMPA alleges that these infringements by Peloton have been occurring since 2014, when it launched at-home streaming on its machines. The company is currently valued at $4 billion and, according to The Wall Street Journal, is making steps toward an IPO this year.
With how the music industry is these days with streamings rights and the Spotify lawsuit, one would think you'd want to have this stuff squared away as you became more pretty profitable. Especially if you're trying to go public. Or it could just be a money great from the publishers
I did a few and then an advanced beginner. Now I’m just working my way up to consistently do 45 minute classes
Depends on how often you ride. I’d say stay at the 20 min beginners ride about 4-5 rides than move to either advanced beginner and or 30 min low impact rides
Instead of driving to stuff I am going to try and bike there. Like this morning I am going to breakfast and I’ll cycle instead of drive. An easy 8-9 miles not much but something. I usually just vegatate with my son the first two days.
Late post but on Tuesday I cranked out a 20 min tabata ride with Cody. Hit 176kj which is a new PR for 20 min class. I'm still working towards my goal of 20min/200kj and 30min/300kj by May 30, my birthday. I think im going to do a 30 minute arms/intervals today.
Can’t express how useful the rest of the peloton workouts are. The meditation, yoga and stretching are great. Using weights heavy enough will give you a great strength workout. The bike is obviously the main part but you guys should be taking advantage of everything this has to offer.
Best music, best ride flow, very positive person. He breaks up his 45s well. Gets a good mixture of in and out of the saddle. What makes him the best is he lets you know what is coming in the rides. "We have three sets of..." or "8 minute climb coming up next" it allows you to plan your efforts.
Yeah I enjoyed the way he mixed it up. I don't remember the guy I did my first ride with's name. It was a British guy. I much preferred Alex though.
Had to take a week off due to back strain but back in the thick of it as of last two days. Did a scenic ride in NY area today. Some other live riders on the ride too.
I know we’ve talked about the Peloton Facebook group being a steaming pile of shit, but I found this post to be really informative. Check out what temporary (I hope) removal of rides because of the lawsuit has done to the number of On Demand rides. Yes, there are still thousands to choose from, but this is a gigantic dent in the OD catalog.
