I like the new album. Sunday, Exits, and In Degrees are probably the standouts. I can see not liking the previous album but I liked it. Like Portugal.the.Man they have become more mainstream so some of the songs felt a bit too pop.
last night I was baking out my truck and could feel some bass coming from nearby but couldn't really figure out its origin because I park right between a HS and a park I got out and approached this cool looking truck across the street and sure enough it is a mobile practice space for a local band pretty sweet concept, but kind of sad that practice space is so scarce in the Bay Area outside Oakland that bands have to go this route. Took the pics below this morning Spoiler
Stella Donnelly dropped her debut album, "Beware of the Dogs," on Friday. I really like it. Couple tracks:
I know this isn't the rap thread but I stumbled upon this guy and holy shit he reminds me of Big L I can't find anything about him on the internet so an apple music link is all you get https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/i-care/1452576807?i=1452576811
currently listening to the new Ex Hex album for the first time Want It to Be True is an incredibly beautiful song album seems much longer which is wonderful

This Karen O Danger Mouse collaboration is super chill. It's like Broken Bells if you swapped out James Mercer for Karen O.
Listening to Trouble Will Find Me for the first time in a while... still one of my favorite albums ever
Mary Timony is my favorite guitar player of all time sorry everyone else the song No Reflection after the 2:05 mark
stream the new Ex Hex album It's Real over at NPR https://www.npr.org/2019/03/18/702983023/first-listen-ex-hex-it-s-real will without a doubt be in my top 10 at year's end. So many amazing hooks Tame, obviously. But Snail Mail would be my strong #2 there. Not really sure of too many other acts, would have to check out some of those other ones
Lust for Youth releasing a self-titled album on Sacred Bones in early June. Song below is Great Concern Spoiler
Any thoughts on Mansionaire? I’m going to be in Sydney Australia in two months and the only bands playing are them, Sharon Van Etten (I’m seeing her this summer already), Maggie Rogers, and Stella Donnelly. Not really familiar with the latter two.
Maggie Rogers would be sweet. I like Stella Donnelly and her concerts are fun (and filled with hot young girls), but her lyrics are a bit too overtly political for me to enjoy listening to her stuff over and over. I listen to music to escape reality, not rehash it over and over
Thanks, wound up going with Mansionaire, because they are playing at more of a club like venue and tix were cheap. The other concerts were at the Opera House, and I saw Nick Murphy there two years ago. It was great, but I wanted to see a different venue in a stand up venue.
I just noticed that William Tyler's sister Elise directed Kevin Morby's video for Parade I have bogged down this thread enough with videos so I won't post it. But damn it is so beautiful that is a pretty awesome brother/sister duo
My guess is literally no one except you thinks you're bogging down the thread. Post it if you got it.
forgot to post this, but kevin morby is screening a short film and then performing a solo show in Tonganoxie, KS in a few weeks and I scored a couple of tickets to it.
Institute releasing a new album in mid-May via Sacred Bones check out lead single Dazzle Paint in the spoiler below Spoiler
I little mainstream but I get to go see Xiu Xiu, then go to Firefly, Bonnaroo, a local grassroots festival, Woodstock 50, and Built to Spill at a bar at least this summer. I am sure more will be added on. Pretty excited.
I know you’re a music guy but that take is fucking horrendous. Big L? How high were you when you made that comparison?
