also... is there a car mechanic worth a shit that someone can recommend in (or around) this town? Without going into boring details, I've had some bad luck with a couple of places recently...
Why did they blur the other people's faces out? I'm guessing it's because they didn't commit any crimes but could be helpful if someone could ID them...
idk, there's an open drug market 24/7 in front of that strip mall though. It's a shame -- I live not too far from there and like a few of the establishments in that neighborhood, but given that guy who got shot in the head leaving Jackie Lee's on NYD, this shit, and all the other serious crime that's been happening on Jefferson / Kennedy / Brightwood Park for years, I can't justify going to those places. There's a 5 or 6 square block radius that's just a war zone.
I've gotten weirdly into this story. I really want to know where the fuck Justice went, I figured he was dead. https://dcist.com/story/19/02/28/in-shocking-twist-justice-the-eagle-returns-to-his-nest/
Need some recommendations for a place with good food and drinks to watch the tournament Sunday night. I went to RightProper last time I was in town and the food was really good but I don't think they have TVs. I've been to Churchkey for beer but never had the food so I just seeing if there is anything else I should consider.
They have quite a few more than that and you can see all the screens from the bar area standing tables. I’d also suggest Biergarten Haus on H St.
There’s a Buffalo Wild Wings on the corner of 23rd and Crystal Drive I’m guessing rv12 has been to Bluejacket much more recently than I - that’s a really good place for pub food and awesome beers, usually around 20 of their own on tap at any given time. Bracket Room in Clarendon if you want a sports bar (DC is pretty shit in this category). If you want good food/drinks that happens to have an available tv, the bar at Osteria Morini is worth the quick trip. Whatever you do, don’t take the metro on the weekend.
Just check for outages and plan your trip on wmata.com otherwise you could end up waiting for a long time. They do a decent job during rush hour, but it’s not a real reliable transportation system outside of that
On a Sunday night you can expect 20+ minute headways between trains, and unless you’re going downtown or to Columbia Heights, you’ll be transferring lines. Perfectly fine during the week.
I plan my trips on the weekend. During the week I don’t have much issue. They have given me a couple of refunds for my trip taking 10 min longer than it should have. The only time that irritated me was when I was trying to get to a midweek Caps game. Just coming home, I’ll gladly take a free fare
The food at Bluejacket looks awesome. Franklin Hall has a negative yelp review that makes me want to go there haha. Not so much Franklin Hall's fault but the clientele here is awful.. bunch of white trashy frat boys and sorority girls being sloppy, spilling drinks that are never cleaned up so the ground's sticky and bouncer kicking out overly drunk customers. I remember when I came to their grand opening, it was such a fun spot to play games and hang out with a large group. Now, avoid at all cost. So many good recs. Thanks guys. Might have to hit up some of the other ones Monday or Tuesday.
If you’re older than 25, Franklin Hall is a terrible recommendation. It’s a giant long beer hall aimed at kids fresh out of college. It’s not the place for an individual patron trying to eat and watch a game.
I'm young at heart. I workout everyday with several college students and it's amazing. I'm 37 and you would think I'm their grandpa.
I live in Old Town, the sports bar scene is sub par there. I usually go to O’Connells, Bugsbys, or Mackies. Theismanns has a lot of tvs too
Jose Andres Tapas bar is in Crystal City. Spike Mendelson’s Good Stuff Eatery is good too.You probably aren’t looking for pizza, but Spike’s We The Pizza pulled pork pizza is great. It is also in Crystal City. On my way home w/ one right now.
Have you DMV guy’s also come to realize how shitty drivers from Virginia are? 9 out of 10 times you see a car in the passing lane slowing traffic and other fuckery it is some asshole from VA that has no idea how to drive.
Really? Is it really hard for you to imagine? Like I said, 9 out 10 a car does something on the beltway that is dangerous, ignores traffic patterns, or slows traffic...it is a VA driver. Is passing on the left not a thing in VA?
Slows traffic old guy is Virginian but the other two are most frequently associated with Maryland drivers. It’s not coincidental that the worst areas for collisions on the Beltway are on the Maryland side.
Ooh, a good ole fashioned VA vs. MD vs DC shitty driver faceoff. MD easily has the shittiest drivers btw. An entire state of insanely dangerous drivers who... given how much marijuana they consume behind the wheel, amazingly manage to be constantly pissed off.
The number one source of unpaid tickets in DC is Maryland drivers, who owe basically as much as DC and Virginia drivers combined
Interesting, I wasn’t aware that the Maryland drivers had the shitty driver rep. In my experience on the beltway, the most hazardous driving has overwhelming been VA drivers.
