Not surprised. A long rant by Duffy saying his best 2 years he deleted social media and that he was going to do it this year. And how destructive social media is and if he fails the rest of his career but teaches one young player not to let trolls get under his skin he’ll be a success. Last night he was getting into twitter fights with everyone responding to him. He might be off the rails again which is probably a good thing for his pitching abilities.
Starting the season on the DL, errr, IL so that's not promising. I think the window to trade him has been closed shut for a while now. We had our chance two years ago but he won't fetch anything more than mid-tier prospects at this point.
We dropped Goodwin so Duda could make the rosters. Looks like we’ll platoon O’Hearn, Schwindel, Duda at DH/1B.
Also Ned said Whit will get a lot of time in the outfield. So here’s to a lot of Chris Owens at 2nd. We need Soler to go a full season to see what he’s got. Gordo will have us swan song. Hamilton/Phillips need time in center. Whatever, let’s talk for another great draft pick.
I have a feeling they’re going to put Soler full time in RF to maximize his value so they can trade him. Also Brett said Schwindel is making the 25 man to open the season
Phillips has already been sent to Omaha. I’d be fine with a Soler trade as long as he lives up to giant potential.
Not sure that being very bad is the 'goal' per se, but we will indeed be bad. That was a known well before they lost to AAA.
Soler should definitely be the everyday RF. After Whit, and maybe Mondesi, he's probably our best hitter. People forget he was actually having a solid year before he got hurt last year. .820 OPS which would have ranked #47 in baseball and a 0.9 WAR in 61 games would have made him ~2.5 WAR player over the course of the season. That's not too bad. This is the year where they're going to have to decide whether he's going to be a part of the future build or not. He just turned 27 so he isn't too old to be part of the rebuild. His defense sucks but we need his bat. In terms of where he fits moving forward, Matias looks like a lock for RF. Lee is a fringe CF, most likely corner OF. Soler would then be looking at DH or 1B. Can he play 1B? Would he DH? Who knows.
Latest forecast had the rain/storms moving in between 1:00-4:00. I'm guessing there will be ~1 hour rain delay but there appears to be a clearing between 4:00-7:00 so hopefully they can sneak the game in before more rain/storms comes tonight. The forecast for tomorrow doesn't look any better so I'm sure they'll try as hard as they can to get today's game in.
25 man roster Catchers (2): Cam Gallagher, Martin Maldonado Infielders (7): Hunter Dozier, Lucas Duda, Whit Merrifield, Adalberto Mondesi, Ryan O’Hearn, Chris Owings, Frank Schwindel Outfielders (4): Alex Gordon, Terrance Gore, Billy Hamilton, Jorge Soler Starting pitchers (3): Jakob Junis, Brad Keller, Jorge Lopez Relief pitchers (9): Scott Barlow, Brad Boxberger, Jake Diekman, Chris Ellis, Tim Hill, Ian Kennedy, Kevin McCarthy, Wily Peralta, Kyle Zimmer Injured list: Danny Duffy, Brian Flynn, Jesse Hahn, Salvador Perez
He is often a whipping boy in this thread but you gotta feel good for Zimmer. Him being a bust has nothing to do with his ability, unlike our other Top-10 picks that busted. I'm excited to see him pitch.
I don’t see the positives of carrying gore in Omaha instead of bubba so hopefully that changes after he gets some ABs in Omaha
You gotta be prepared just in case a track meet breaks out. That 4x100 relay team of Gore, Whit, Mondesi and Hamilton would be unstoppable.
Official start time of 4:00. Just bought a pair of tix 15 rows behind the dugout for $60. See you guys out there.
Sounds that way. Ned or someone mentioned having to make room for him and for Duffy when he’s healthy.
After this most recent system that just rolled through it looks clear. Something could certainly develop but they should be able to get this one in tonight.
And the beers I’ve been throwing down sitting in the car are a hell of a lot cheaper than the ones in the stadium.
