Thought this was good. Not behind the paywall. https://theathletic.com/891849/2019/03/28/on-the-temple-on-her-last-first-day/
That Rhyner video really got me yesterday. The ballpark opened when I was 7 years old. I used to go to games with my dad when I was a kid and I fell in love with baseball at that park. I’ll never forget how excited i was every time I’d get to go watch Pudge, Raffy, and Rusty play when I was younger. I saw a perfect game there live. I attended my only World Series game there when Derek Holland threw his gem in 2011. Some of my favorite memories were probably in high school when the baseball wasnt that great but you could buy cheap tickets and move down close behind home plate because the ushers didn’t give a damn. My friends and I would sneak in pre mixed jack and coke during the summers and get belligerently drunk by the 5th inning. When I’d come back in town from college, the visit was usually planned around a baseball game. It was impossible to walk through the gates and see the field for the first time each season while Chuck Morgan was doing his thing on the mic and not get chills. And even if I drag my 7 month old out there sometime this season she’ll never remember the magic of that place when she’s older. I’m sure air conditioning will be nice, but the old park still has a lot of years left in it. I hate that we’re replacing it with a shitty Minute Maid knockoff with fake grass and that we will likely christen it with one of the worst teams in the American League. And worst of all, the temple now has to host the Dallas Dick Farmers or whatever the hell they’re going to call that shitty bob stoops coached product that won’t last. What a terrible send off
Wait, so they aren't tearing down TBIA? Wiki says the XFL will be a tenant going forward, but I would guess there is more going on than listed there.
The Rhyner video when he said how proud he was that his Rangers had such a beautiful home hit me in the feels. I suffered through the headaches on bat night sitting in the metal bleachers of the old stadium and the sense of pride that our team finally had a home that wasn't embarrassing really made it feel like a major league ballclub for the first time. I was a junior in high school when it opened and the opening of a beautiful park coinciding with me and my friends getting drivers licenses was magical. I bet I went to 30+ games the first year
They still want to use it, but I'm not exactly sure what for. I guess they could get football that doesn't want to pay the JerryWorld rent, but are lower-level games going to draw? I'd bet that the McCartney concert is a test run to see how it performs as a concert venue, but I'm struggling to see how that's sustainable as well.
lmao did you see how pissed people were about the sod poodles even being in amarillo? they probably won’t be there long if they don’t get any support
Haven’t been paying attention. I figured they’d have some big roll out and people would go for two weeks and then the place would be a graveyard.
is this where we talk about how this team can overachieve this year and get to, i don’t know, 71, 72 wins?
the more games they lose the better the farm system is pretty shit atm. they’ll spend money next year for the new stadium
That fat piece of shit should never be talked about again imo. He never wanted to be here in the first place and was almost as terrible as Roy Oswalt
I mean that’s kinda my point. Dude was a waste of a roster spot, washed up, and had no interest in being here The most memorable moment of his tenure was the picture of him expressionless on the bench after a walkoff win. Fuck that guy
