I just ate whatever I wanted for 5 days on vacation. I’m having a really hard time wanting to go back to keto. Even tho I’ve been so successful on it. Ugh

Just started this diet. I've been lifting weights 3-4 days a week pretty consistently for the past 2 years. I'm at around 205 currently but I started eating whatever I felt like. I look fine still but can notice some extra pounds that I've put on. I would like to get down to 185, which is what I weighed in college but I've put on a lot of muscle the past 2 years so I'm not sure how possible that is. I've exercised like crazy for periods over the past year and went on a diet and 194 has been like a brick wall.

I'm on day 3. Day 2 was pretty rough. Not sure if it was enough time for "keto flu" or if I just felt bad generally but I was having to piss almost every hour. Day 3 I feel much better.

I think I'm going to try to ease out of the Keto stuff at the end of this week. I liked generally how I felt doing it and have lost a fair amount of weight...I should be under 240 (started at 263.5 at the beginning of the year) at my next weigh in at the end of the week. My clothes fit a lot better, I feel a lot better in them and I'm certain I've lost even more inches that aren't showing up on the scale necessarily. I think any diet that limits sugar and carb intake can't be bad for you. Those things are so hard to control and just eliminating them all together has felt great, for awhile.

Over these past 3 months I have decided that long term use probably isn't the best for me. I feel lately I've been going from cheat days where I inhale everything to fasting for 24 hours that just doesn't feel right. It's like I am in constant feast or famine. I want to be able to practice portion control and not feel like I have to eat 12 donuts since I haven't had any sugar in weeks. I know I could do a better job of not having cheat days, but I am a weak man. Add in a pregnant wife, vacation, my birthday, etc, It's just hard to be so strict all the time without being a total buzzkill to my friends and family around me. I have been really diligent for 10 out of these 12 weeks, and have tried hard to eat correctly. The results have been really good.

But these last few weeks I've felt much more lethargic after work, even feel that way trying to eat more. I don't really know why, and energy just hasn't been there for work-outs. I still have about 10 more lbs to lose and am going to try counting cals but not being so restrictive. I've lost 30+ lbs using this method before and I hope it allows me to find a bit more balance. I think this will also help digestion, ranging from constipation to an open faucet. I don't really like that feeling. It's been fun, and I am sure I will try it again at some point. This thread has been awesome and I appreciate all the advice and banter back and forth. Butter forever!

This is the hard part. Don't fall back into your old habits. Eat what you want but maybe try to limit carbs when you can. I think taking a few things you've learned over the past few months on this diet can keep you right on track to where you want to be.

Yeah I certainly like more foods and veggies, and it’s going to change how I eat a lot of meals. It just gets to be a slippery slope of if I can control having one of something that isn’t good instead of several. I am hoping that having some of certain foods reduces the temptation to go crazy. As always, moderation.

I'm on day 5. I was 209 Sunday morning but that was after a night of heavy drinking so I was probably somewhere closer to 206ish. This morning I weighed 201.

I'm in pretty good shape for me I'm pretty impressed with how quickly you drop weight on this diet. My buddy was in better shape than me and he dropped 7 pounds in week 1.

I started a B12 vitamin and it's helped. I haven't needed a second cup of coffee in the morning or caffeine in the afternoon. I discussed this with my wife, taking a multivitamin. She's a PA. She said almost all of those vitamins in the multivitamin are found in normal veggies for the most part. If you've been on Keto awhile though it might be worth it.

Okay so I started this right after thanksgiving and it’s been amazing but it’s honestly starting to get really hard. Keto fatigue maybe? I’m just missing certain foods and restaurants. Like I miss lying on the couch and just ordering a pizza and watching basketball. Maybe I need some words of encouragement or advice?

I weighed 209 last Sunday 201.5 this Sunday.

I’ve weighed 201 for 3 straight days but I’ve also lifted weights pretty heavy 8 straight days. Hard to tell if muscle gain is evening out fat loss but I can look in the mirror and tell I’m losing fat.

Have you made fathead dough? Look it up and make a pizza.

I get a little burned out brother, but I was fucking miserable being a fatass.

Dunno what I reported at last I was on here, but I'm down to 217. I'm 10lbs away from goal. Ironically I lost 12lbs in my first week of doing this. Nearly a year ago. Now 10lbs seems like it'll take me about two months.

You gotta have goals and keep your eye on the prize.

Personally I love this way of eating and don't see myself fully ever getting away from it.

I would like to drop another 10-15 pounds but we'll see if it happens.

Long term I'm going to eat healthy and try to cut carbs when possible but if my kid wants pizza for dinner once every few weeks I'm not going to avoid eating a couple slices. I feel like it's pretty easy to cut them from most meals. Lunch I usually take a salad with chicken on it any how. Dinner if I'm out don't eat bread while waiting on your meal, etc.

Down 14.8 since I started back on 3/18.

I haven’t been 100% strict but pretty close. I just haven’t been denying myself if I’m craving something. Don’t go crazy with the portions and limit the amount you do it and everything will be fine.

The saving grace of the diet is how long it takes to be hungry again. I used to eat an english muffin or something small at around 6:30. Then I'm hungry again at 9 and 11 and 1 after I work out. I eat 3-4 eggs with spinach, crumbled bacon and some diced tomato and I'm not hungry until 1. Then after lunch I'm good until dinner.

My carb cravings have diminished significantly.

Try MFP or WW or some other type of calorie tracking and maybe mix in IF and then when you're in your window you can eat things like pizza and not feel bad about it as long as you are eating in some type of moderation.

We recently started making pizza dough out of non-fat greek yogurt and self-rising flour and sprinkle on some seasonings and it's pretty dang good. We make a zero-point (WW) marinara that we use for that and some other dishes we like to make, turkey peps, ground turkey with burger seasoning, center-cut bacon, lots of veggies, fat-free mozzarella. It's not regular pizza but it's close enough to satisfy that craving and not blow the budget even eating like half of what looks like a medium or large pizza.

Are you doing Keto at all, or more “CICO”/WW type method?

The reason I ask is I’ve had two seperate times where WW/CICO has worked great, so I am partial to that method. My GF wants to get on the keto bandwagon, so I said I’d try as well. My biggest fear of keto, is the after effects of a cheat day, or how my body will react if I ever go back to a more “portion control” method with carbs included.

I don’t have a huge issue logging all my food, so I’m really only entertaining the full on keto method to try and “support” my GF or whatever. Just don’t want it to be a thing where a month later I decide to go back to six days of caloric deficit but it doesn’t work because I ate a slice of bread.

There is a common misconception about keto and calories. On keto you can’t or should I say shouldn’t eat as much as you want to lose weight. You still have to pay attention to your calories you’re just getting them from a different source (fat not carbs). You won’t go bunkers if you don’t over do it. I am not as strick as I was at the begging. I have eaten stuff that’s not “keto friendly” but I am still extremely low carb and it works for me. Not sure how much weight you and your gf want to lose but you’ll find this diet is pretty easy to follow and because of the type of food you get your calories from you’ll feel fuller than regular low calorie diets.

Take a couple weeks off or do a less strict version. Don’t think getting a pizza will hurt you much. You’re pretty close to your goal, right? I’ve had a few tacos and quesadillas and regret nothing. The problem with regular low calorie diets is that you feel like you’re depriving yourself too much and go crazy after a while, grab a beer a pizza and hop back on.

Damn that’s awesome! That’s why I follow along here as well. I did WW really strict about 6-7 years ago and lost 75lbs in like nine months. Last year I lost about 50 doing more calorie counting type method (gained some back between).

I’m thinking I may just keep going with that route, but eat some lower carb dinners with my GF. Personally, other than a nutrigrain bar, or like some roasted potatoes, I don’t really eat many carbs during the week as is. That way I don’t worry about screwing something up when I decide I want a beer or pizza on a Saturday.

My wife decided yesterday morning she's doing keto. She lasted one day and said "fuck this" I'm just doing low calorie. Her 20 carb papaya she had for breakfast ruined it for her. She was out on the no fruit.

Makes sense, see my reply above, but personally I’ve had success just logging calories/WW points and maintaining that 5-6 days a week. The switch to keto would be more for my GF’s sake, but like I said above, personally I don’t eat much bread, or noodles, etc. So for the most part my “diet” is usually somewhat low carb, just not keto level.

Usually I keep my calorie count low enough while I’m working, I’d probably have like 800-1000 calories left for dinner and a before bed snack. I think my GF likes the keto aspect, because it helps her do less snacking/grazing, etc.

I really like WW because the freestyle program encourages you to eat until your satisfied as long as you're eating healthy. I don't really feel like I'm on a diet, I just make smart choices about what I'm cramming in my mouth and I'm more aware of how much activity I'm actually getting. I still eat pizza, wings, burgers, etc.

The bigger thing with that program has been the meetings. It's cheap therapy (which is especially helpful for me since I've always struggled with the mental and emotional aspects of this the most) and a definite accountability booster.

100% agree. The first time I did it, a co worker lost about 20lbs and he was pretty “fit” so I told him I’d start with him, so him doing it too helped. Hell, even having to weigh in there helps, even though they don’t announce it, for me even having one person see I didn’t lose weight kept me on track. Plus paying for it, even if it’s cheap, my mind was like “if I’m paying for it I might as well do it”.

The freedom is amazing too. People think I’m joking, but in 2018 I lost right around 50lbs and probably ate Taco Bell once a week (typically on Saturday/cheatday, but still).
