Just watched the preview episode that they advertised on the super bowl. I saw the movie and liked it a lot. Seems solid so far. Too bad we have to wait until March. Has a ton of potential.

In equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama, HANNA follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is. Full Season Coming March.

First episode felt pretty true to my memory of the movie. It was all setup, but entertaining. A little bit Tarzanish.

That was fun, even managed to capture the style of Joe Wright in places.

Obviously ridiculous and have to suspend disbelief, but I really enjoyed it. Great action and I love the superhuman secret military project genre. I wasn’t much for shitty AMC show, but my wife watched it and I do like the fact that they used the same actors. They were both very good.

One question, is she supposed to be super intelligent where when she sees things once she just knows how to do it? That’s the impression I got with her driving and shooting and things like that.

Hah I had noticed Kinnaman but totally forgot that Enos was from that too. Anyway in the film Marissa is played by Cate Blanchett, so I thought Enos was a pretty solid sub here.

Skipped through the thread to avoid spoilers so Sorry if this is covered

2 eps in and IM hooked.

But is this made by the same people who made T he Killing?

Lots of the same actors, makes me nervous it is, and it's going to turn to crap :ohdear:

It's not crap. It's not the greatest show ever, but definitely very solid entertainment value and they didn't botch the ending like Shitty AMC Show. Same two main actors. I don't think the Creator is the same. The creator wrote the Night Manager. 4 Directors each with two episodes. None worked on Shitty AMC Show.

I'm on ep 5 and I think this show could be awesome. But it is fucking itself up with all this teenage girl angst bullshit. I want to see Hanna go nuts and use all her skills.

FWIW, I loved the movie because it was just Hanna going bananas but as much as teen girls attitudes suck, I think it’s an important part of her character. To say more would be kind of spoiler-y, but the human side of her character is an important part of the show and I think is relevant to the long term arc of the show.

I agree, especially since she literally had zero exposure to any types of social norms. They showed some of that awkwardness, but I suspect it would have been even worse than shown. Learning how to socialize and putting it to practice are pretty challenging things when you have zero exposure until that age.

Think it's one of the most underrated movies of the 10s -- love it, but still haven't started the show. It's in the queue though. Seems like y'all enjoyed it?

Loved the movie... thought the simple concept mixed with the extreme characters and the cinematography was just such a great mix.

Was hesitant about the Amazon series but have to say it is also very very good. I honestly thought that the acting was top notch all the way around. Of course there were a few soft spots but overall the changes in the plot lines I felt like were all excellent and played well.

    Great series.

Finished episode 1, and so far am enjoying it though it's literally following the movie exactly still.

Edit: I think I liked OG Sophie better, and that's not because I dislike this Sophie I just laughed more with that family. This family is quite a bit darker for better or worse.

Also, in the first 2 eps I'm very happy with how well Esme Creed-Miles is playing Hanna. Saoirse Ronan is an excellent actress, so Esme had big shoes to fill and she seems to have done it by spades.

Scene with Wiegler and Sawyer in the car. Sawyer's acting made me cringe, but otherwise the acting in this show has been great.

This has probably been the worst ep thus far wrt cheesiness, and the amount of "near misses." That said, it's also one of the most entertaining.

A very mixed bag of a season.
Creed-Miles and Enos continue to be the strongest parts of the show, and their performances are probably what kept me in through some otherwise pretty infuriatingly stupid shit.
I had a huge problem with the concept of the "families" that were created for the girls. The girls know they are fake, but they buy in and while the show could probably come up with a half plausible explanation for why they take to this make believe fairytale, they spend no effort doing so, and it fucking sucks. What you're left with is "of course Sandy loves her pretend boyfriend and chatting with her "dad" who she knows is nothing but another agent, because she is that desperate and lonely" which, again, fucking sucks.
Thankfully we get away from The Meadows, because everything there is just trash imo.
I enjoyed that Hanna (and Marissa) suffer setbacks not always when you expect. (Although the thing where Hanna didn't actually kill Marissa was a bit of a lame stunt).

Based on the way they ended it they need to wrap it up with Season 3 being taking down the Pioneers. There will have to be a flawlessly executed pivot of this story arc if they want to go further. One interesting concept would be for season 4 to jump ahead 5-6 years to a fully aware and confident Hanna who has figured out what her life is supposed to be.

Hanna is a very compelling character, but I feel like Marissa runs her course next season regardless of what they choose to do.

This season had a lot of plausibility holes, the one you mentioned being the largest. If next season is as full of holes, it will be tough to keep going. The way they have set it up feels like it could be really sloppy.

lol this shit was a fucking mess, but admittedly by the end it got kinda fun

The villains are so, so bad.

The chairman reveal was absolutely terrible and so was the more or less a-list effort there.

But watching Hanna be Hanna is just kind of a blast. And I still dig what Creed-Miles brings to it.
