What are the chances we would even consider buying out Abdelkader? We still have Stephen Weiss on our cap for two more years, which is kind of hilarious in how little that taught Holland in later deals.

Is that stuff worth it in the end when you spread it out for that long?

I don’t think it’s worth it. It would be 2 mil a year for 8 years I believe. Just can’t swing that.

Are you allowed more than two buyouts? We currently have both Weiss and Ouellet.

Also we're not buying out Abby. He's an assistant captain, home state kid, went to school in state, etc. Holland has too much loyalty.

I would consider trading one of our 2’s to get rid of that deal. That’s as extreme as I would get.

No one would do that deal, though, right? Would think it's at least a 1st rounder.

Unless someone big wants to come play here and we are in desperate need for cap space now, may as well eat his contract for 2 more years and then maybe buy it out. Maybe give Seattle a pick to take him in expansion draft

Agreed. We really do need a top end D prospect, but talent wise hes too far behind other 4 you mentioned imo

Was also thinking if he fell into late 20s, I wouldn't mind moving up from early 2nd to end of 1st and picking up Spencer Knight. Then with him and Larsson I would like our chances of one of them being our future goalie. Of course it all depends on what it would cost to move up.

What would it cost us? Our two 2nd rounders and a 3rd?

Looking for comparables, last year it took a 3rd round pick to move up from 29 to 26. It took a 2nd to get from 26 to 22. I would guess 2 2nds and maybe a later round pick could get it done. We have 3 2nd round picks

    Top 2 would be jackpot.

If we arent top 2, I'd want C or D and most mocks have Podkolvin 3. So if not top 2, not much difference between 3 and 6 to me.

If we got 3 would anyone be opposed to dropping back (within the top 5-7)? Would probably be able to get another 2nd to package for a late 1st

Would anyone offer anything good to jump up? Consensus right now seems to be that 3-7 range there isnt much separation. But I'd be on board if someone did

Only draw lottery for top 3, rest seeded based on record. So when they weren't up for their spot you know they won lottery for one of top 3 spots

Well we know who is going 1-2, looking at other fans posts on here and twitter and mock drafts, I am thinking Byram, Podkolzin and Cozens could very well be the other 3 gone as well.

    That would leave us with

Centers - Turcotte, Zegras, Dach, Krebs
    Wingers - Boldy
    Defense -Harley, Soderstrom

My preference of a Center over a Wing and my thinking the remaining D prospects are not as highly rated, that leaves me between those centers. Initially I would say Zegras would be who I hope we get at 6. But I will have to look at it some more.

I can see Podkolzin falling to us. Question is whether we bite? I still prefer Zegras. Turcotte would probably be next. My tunes been changing on him.

This is assuming Cozens and Byram are off the board.

Beside being a winger (which I could live with), doesn't Podkolzin have a KHL contract issue where he would likely be 2 years before being able to come over? And aren't their rumors he may want to stay in Russia even longer? I could see him falling over that, but I think he is probably talent wise the clear #3

I think he comes over in 20-21.

The good thing for us is he’s in the same organization as Datsyuk. That can’t hurt.

Dach and Turcotte are options as well. Dach is a playmaking Center as well is which I kind of want to see this draft. He is just inconsistent. If he could put it all together consistently he would be a surefire top 5 pick

NHL.com has a mock draft (Top 15 picks) up with 3 writers, and not surprising it is a crapshoot after 2. 2/3 have us taking Turcotte, the other has Byram falling to us.

    Podkolzin - #3, #4, #4
    Dach - #10 , #3, #7
    Cozens - #4, #7 , #3
    Zegras - #5, #12 , #8
    Byram - #6 , #5, #5
    Turcotte - #11 , #6, #6
    Caufield - #7, NR, NR
    Krebs - #8, #11 , #9
    Soderstrom - NR, #8, #11
    Harley - #9, NR, NR
    Broberg - #13 , #9, #15
    Boldy - #14, #10, #10

Since Turcotte and Zegras are two guys I think will be highly in the mix for us, I was bored and decided to compare their stats while I am sitting here watching some hockey with other notable USDP players who were top 15 picks recently to their stats in their U18 years for the USDP teams (note a couple guys because of age difference went to college or played somewhere else before being drafted). Looking at that list, Turcotte's number hold their own against some former big names.

The Griffs are in danger of missing the playoffs. They have lost 8 in a row, mainly due to losing most of their players to the Wings. They need Iowa to not win in regulation tonight to clinch. That game is currently 0-0 after 2.

If Iowa does win in regulation, I believe the Griffs must win tomorrow to make it in.

Big question if the Jets can afford him given their other pending free agents, plus he wants a bigger role.

Joe Veleno's team, Drummondville, won their second round series 4-1 (won their first by the same amount). Veleno had a slower series points wise but is up to 6+6=12 in 10 games.

Griffs down 5-0. They are going to need help to make the playoffs.
