so after reading up and listening some stuff ( i was kinda done with football for a bit after a doubly painful postseason) we really seem to have 1 big and 1 small weakness this year. So here are my rankings of how I feel about each unit (from best to worst)
1 Defensive End (the backups and 3rd strings would be better as a set than our normal rotation in most years)
2 Offensive Line (bring a ton of people back with good experience and if Patterson can win the center job over Ruhland he must be damn good cuz Ruhland was solid)
3 Safeties (feels weird but they are back and they are good, some depth issues maybe?)
4 Wide receivers (all on the spring buzz, would have it as a worry going in)
5 Tight Ends (high upside, solid baseline)
6 Corners (Pride is good, they'll find someone for the other spot)
7 Defensive Tackles (good starters, solid second string, absolutely nothing beyond that)
8 Quarterbacks (solid, if unspectacular, starter and an intriguing backup, plz no injuries)
9 Running backs (gonna be very mediocre, but not bad)
10 slight worry Specialists. Doeren seems like a terrible scholarship and a new punter doesnt instill much confidence
11 huge worry Linebackers hate seeing bilal as mike as he is just not instinctive enough. Gonna have a bunch of linebackers making plays but also fucking up a lot. Gonna need to be hella aggressive and except the mistakes or play the safeties off a bunch

Jonathan Jones, David Adams, Drew White, Jordan Genmark Heath, Spencer Perry. Thats all 5 linebackers in 2 recruiting classes and they went 0 for 5 on those guys in real decent players, that hurts any depth chart

Personally think JGH will find a spot. Just seems like a good football player ala Onuwalu that will continue to grow into an extremely solid player.

I would put corners a little lower. Seems like there's not much at all behind Pride. Probably have them at 8 or 9. I would also put QB higher if it was any other position, but that Kelly curse....

Specialist is also a giant worry for me, probably even more than LB. Lea has proven he can develop LBs during an offseason before so I won't be shocked if they come out of fall camp as a decent unit. But it'll basically be blind luck if our kicking game is serviceable.

i think 1 great corner and i have trust in a second corner being okayish results in a decent position group. Its not a strength of the team like it was last year though

i think JGH and Lamb at Buck is going to be fine as the year progresses but everyone at LB is going to have growing pains

I hope Simon at Mike picks up quickly now that he's settled into a position. He can focus purely on that all summer and into fall camp and i think he will start taking minutes from Bilal

I have faith Lea will be able to get the LB situation up to speed. They will no doubt not be as good as last year, but with our DL, serviceable should be OK at LB and the defense can still be good.

Special teams... not very confident at all. That’s gonna cost us a game or two this year.

What the fuck, I have so many questions. What the hell was he doing with his life? Was he working?

This is so sad but fuck him. Maybe just throwing out that 2012 season in the thrash wasn’t such a bad idea.

I think I saw he's been in the CFL the last couple years. So in other words, Canada and the Patriots can decide between themselves whose fault this is.

I don't know what to assign as worse or better. One you have an extra bottleneck to go through security in addition to getting your ticket scanned, the other let's 80,000 people into a confined space with practically no security.

    Zak Zinter

A new 247Sports Crystal Ball pick is in for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. As always, Irish Illustrated brings you the complete details behind the prediction.

North Andover (Mass.) Buckingham Browne & Nichols School four-star offensive lineman Zak Zinter is currently being projected to end up at Notre Dame. The 6-6, 300-pounder is listed as the No. 224 overall player in the country, No. 22 offensive tackle nationally and No. 3 prospect in Massachusetts from the class of 2020. 247Sports ranks high slightly lower as the No. 321 overall prospect this cycle and No. 28 player at his position.

This has been an interesting recruitment to follow, but it was widely known that if and when Notre Dame offered, the Fighting Irish were going to be big, big players in this one. Zinter has always had a ton of interest in the school and program, made his way to campus well before holding an offer, and was extremely fired up when the offer came his way.

“I thought it was awesome,” said Zinter at the time he landed his offer from the Fighting Irish. “Notre Dame has lots of stuff I’m looking for in a school. High academics, great football, obviously. The religion-faith aspect of it. And it’s a really strong brotherhood there. So, it was pretty cool.”

Zinter made his way to campus in March and made a strong impression on the staff. The coaches see him as more of an interior guy, guard in particular, but haven’t ruled out the potential of him playing tackle. In addition, sources have indicated that Zinter made it clear that Notre Dame was going to be tough to beat for him. While Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are pushing hard, it just seems as though Notre Dame is the team at the top. That is the thought I’ve picked up from a couple of closely connected sources on this one.

    2COMMENTS
Zinter returns to campus this weekend for an unofficial visit for Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold spring game. Although he already has an official visit lined up for June, I’m not ruling out a commitment. The key question here — is Notre Dame ready to accept his commitment? The Fighting Irish are in a really good spot for a couple of longtime targets and could be close to landing those guys, so it’ll be up to head coach Brian Kelly to decide who ends up along Notre Dame’s offensive line class this cycle. If the Irish can take four players along the o-line, you surely take Zinter. It seems as though Notre Dame leads for Tosh Baker, Jimmy Christ, Peter Skoronski and Zinter, so if numbers are tight, the staff could have a tough call on their hands. Either way, I feel good about the pick because I’m confident Notre Dame leads heading into the weekend.

Zinter’s offer list includes Michigan, Auburn, Ohio State, Boston College, Florida, Miami, Northwestern, Penn State, Oregon and many others, but in the end, I like Notre Dame to land him.
