Snow is melting early this year (thanks global warming), so I got to get out and rake up a shit ton of leaves. Excited to get this grass growing and weeds dying.

I want a mower that doesn’t bag or shoot trimmings out of the side, but just deposits them back onto the lawn.

    What mower do I want?

They have a number of additives for gas to prevent this.

Also your last mow of the fall run the mower until it’s out of gas so nothing is sitting in it all winter while the engine is idle.

Ok so I got a pretty decent fescue and bluegrass lawn for about 85% of my lawn. When I moved in it was garbage but I had overseeding done last year and have been fertilizing and watering. But in my front yard I got this ugly ass Bermuda

I would like to try to suppress or otherwise murder this plant so I can get a nice bluegrass yard eventually. From the research I’ve done it seems I can:

    - hit it with roundup a couple times, tear it out and go back with new seed or sod
    - try to suppress with a product like this — Bayer Advanced 704100 Bermudagrass Control for Lawns Ready-To-Spray, 32-Ounce

Anyone done anything like this? Tips? I know it’ll be a tough kill but I don’t mind some work and/or it taking some time to beat it back

Got the yard dethatched, raked up, fertilized with some ammonical Nitrogen with a little crab grass killer over last weekend. Mowed afterwards. Bagged this time to get rid of the mess. Ended up digging a sprinkler up out back that was busted and got it replaced. Ready to turn on the irrigation after this weekend, tweek the heads that are out of whack and kick back until summer. Probably will sharpen my mower blades this weekend and get some spot spray for clover and dandelions.

Shredded my PTO belt just as I was getting started this past weekend. I have an older ZTR and have had trouble getting the right size replacement.

With the rain and not cutting last weekend my yard looks like total shit. It puts me in a bad mood when I see it.

Not the answer you are looking for but I’d keep the Bermuda. It looks great sans the dead grass which is likely secondary to a fungus. Hit your lawn with anti-fungal I’d bet it’d be back to normal in less than a month.

Mow the Bermuda once a week, keep it short, water 3x/week. Easy peasy.

The vast majority of that lawn is green to my eye.

    Where do you live?

I have a full green lawn of Bermuda for at least the last month.

Well a lot of it is bluegrass and that’s a cool season grass. Bermuda being a warm season grass doesn’t turn green in the transition zone until late spring

My backyard has a huge random spot of what I think maybe “Tall Fescue” it’s way thicker than the rest of my yard and grows much quicker.

I am planning on tearing out a bunch of BS the previous owner did and planting grass (a random fire pit, some fucked up garden, etc), so I’m considering just ripping up this patch as well.

    Will I regret this?

Nebraska, and I’m not 100%. There’s a mix of shit it seems. I was going to use that pdf posted previously to diagnose. The only reason I want to tear up that one patch and replant is because it’s right in the middle of my backyard and obviously out of place.

Why not keep the grass until you get the rest of the yard under control, then work on the “tall fescue” area. That way you have one less spot to tear up, seed, water, pull weeds in, etc.

Makes sense, I guess I just figured if I’m going to be re-soiling/planting the other area why not just do that patch as well at the same time.

Had some serious mole issues and my dogs tried to get to them, between the two of them my yard was torn up. First picture is April when just started greening up. It’s not quite there but it’s recovered well and should be totally filled in by the time it goes dormant.

    You can trap them.

Or, if you have a local Facebook group that you are part of, someone will know someone that traps them.

A guy where I live will come out and set traps and come back to check them in a few days. $30 for the first one caught and $20 for any after that

Pretty much. Its been a war for a couple years now, only thing I have found to work is the sonic solar spikes. Been through a bunch to find ones that work and will make it through the rain. After having some die on me due to rain I putt ziplock bags over and zip tied them. So far so good.

I tried several traps and those fuckers out smarted me every time. The worst was I found one tunnel that they were using consistently. Dug a deep hole right under it and buried a 5 gallon bucket of water, was going to Prestige those fuckers. Also put a stick across the top and bubble gum on that, which they are apparently supposed to love. Went out the next day and I see the tunnel get to the bucket and do a perfect semi circle around it.
