No including true freshmen coming in, I think these guys will get drafted Tyler Clark - 3rd-4th Malik Herring - 3rd-5th Jordan Davis - could be as high as 1st depending on how he develops but size is elite Devonte Wyatt- 2nd-5th depending on development, but his speed is elite Julian Rochester - 5th-7th On the cusp: David Marshall if his injury isn’t too serious Michael Barnett has a chance with a good year
He was and he’s the most important piece. Our run D completely changed when he took over and ate up doubles. I still think Wyatt and Travon are the 2 most talented guys on the DL. Hope Wyatt builds off the end of the season he had and turns into the monster he can be
The fact that there are people that think there is actually a chance we don’t have a NFL draftee on our current roster is beyond belief. Like, I don’t actually watch football beyond belief. Mind bottling.
Yeah, he could definitely be a pro. Has all of the tools, hopefully it all clicks in the money year this year
We are more than fine on the DL. And that’s before the four frosh get here. We will be very good there. Go back to critiquing Instagrams. More up the alley of some here.
I was thinking this morning about the opportunity that Richt had at UGA in the mid 2000s. Coming off the 2005 SEC championship (and were a DJ Shockley injury away for a chance at a natty), we had played in 3 of the last 4 SEC title games and won 2 of them. Urban Meyer was coming into his second season with UF, but otherwise, Tubs was about to begin his decline with AU, Shula was at Bammer, Fulmer was on his way to getting canned at Tenn, Les Miles was successful at LSU (but lost 2 games every year). Carroll was still at USC, but otherwise, there weren't a lot of programs functioning at an elite level. We also had the most talented QB in the history of the program coming in. The conditions were perfect for Richt to put a stranglehold on the rest of the country.
Tressel was still at Ohio State, but I think it goes back to "Georgia always recruited at an elite level" and how untrue that was considering the success the program had recently had. A development argument could be made as most of the great players from these classes didn't full hit their stride until the NFL or came in as a nearly finished product. 3rd in 2006 (Stafford class) 8th in 2007 7th in 2008 (coming off a Sugar Bowl win and carrying a preseason #1 ranking that offseason) 4th in 2009 (in retrospect this class was horrendous, basically just Aaron Murray) 11th in 2010 https://247sports.com/Season/2009-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/
Yeah, I think all of our eyes were opened to the myth of “a school recruits itself.” Kirby’s recruiting is legitimately not comparable to Richt’s. I’ve also talked about this a lot, but Kirby’s development is a million times ahead of Richt once the prospects get on campus too.
What saved Richt throughout the years, was generally hitting at the QB position. The years that we missed at QB (Tereshinski, Joe Cox, Logan Gray, Ramsey), the house of cards folded. We always had top-heavy classes, without any real quality of depth, across the board.
Very similar to FSU after the national championship after reading this. Jimbo had a great opportunity to just keep running away from the ACC. The classes he took after that look very similar to the ones post above. I think one of our insiders said that Taggart would have to out recruit jimbo, just to have similar classes because of how good UGA was recruiting compared to jimbo years. Also, who is going to be yalls starting Long snapper?
Notre Dame player: Georgia’s ‘light thing … one of my most memorable experiences in football’ Chip TowersApril 12, 2019 SOUTH BEND Ind. — The primary memory most Notre Dame players have about the 2017 game against Georgia is profound disappointment. The Fighting Irish lost 20-19 to the Bulldogs and watched as UGA went on to the national championship while that early-season defeat held them back from achieving similar greatness. Kraemer But for Tommy Kraemer, who got his second career start at offensive guard that night, he still marvels at all the Georgia fans that filed into Sanford Stadium and that curious cell-phone tradition the Irish witnessed late in the game. It’s well known within the DawgNation as “Light Up Sanford” — or wherever the Bulldogs happen to be playing — during the intermission between the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth as the Redcoat Band plays the song “Krypton” of Superman fame. But when 40,000 fans fired up their cellphone lights and began waving them up and down to the music, the Notre Dame players had no idea what was going on. “That was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had playing football — and it wasn’t even our tradition!” said Kraemer, a 6-foot-6, 319-pound senior from Cincinnati. “It was cool to see, and our fans picked up on it, too. No one really knew what was going on.” Kraemer still isn’t entirely sure. When asked what he remembered about that 2017 game he talked about all the Georgia fans that half-filled Notre Dame Stadium “I don’t know if there was a hurricane down South or what but it brought up a ton of Georgia fans. The stadium was half full of them,” Kraemer said. “Notre Dame Stadium is never like that. Usually you might see a little bit of red in the top-left corner or something. But it was able half-and-half that night. That was pretty neat actually.” Kraemer said they knew a lot of UGA fans were there, but it wasn’t until “the lights thing happened at halftime or in the third quarter or whenever in was.” “That was one of the coolest things I’ve seen,” Kraemer said. If that’s the case, Kraemer will really be blown away when the Irish visit Sanford Stadium for the first time ever on Sept. 21. A kickoff time hasn’t been determined yet but it’s anticipated to a primetime, night-time kickoff. When more that 80,000 Georgia fans “light up Sanford” simultaneously, it can be a truly an awesome sight. “Our first game is against Louisville, so we’re really getting ready for that, but we know Georgia will be a special one,” Kraemer said. “I’ve heard some cool things about Sanford Stadium, that it’s a really cool atmosphere. It’s two really great programs so it should be a fun game.”
I know most aren’t boxing fans but Visily Lomachenko fights tonight on ESPN+ at 11pm. You should tune in if you can. If you don’t know who he is, YouTube him. He’s awesome. He better not lose now that I’ve hyped him.
I have plenty of free time at work and I ended up down a rabbit hole watching a bunch of Ali stuff (goat, rip) but I only know a few better known guys like Joshua, Wilder, Fury, Canelo, etc so far
Yea those are def the more well-known guys, but pound for pound, Loma is the best imo. If/when he wins tonight he probably gets Mikey Garcia next. Would be yuuuggee... Seriously, watch Loma’s highlights. He makes guys quit, like Olympian types.
Very few things better than a good boxing match. Wish we got more of them. The Sweet Science. So much better than fucking MMA.
I'm talking about the actual product. When boxing is good, it is beautiful to watch. MMA is mostly a scrum.
Boxing hasn’t been good on the whole since the 80’s? And you get the elite boxing matchups every now and then
Another good article in the Athletic in the last couple days about Nate McBride and how our amazing recruiting necessarily passes some highly rated kids over. Nate has an awesome attitude about it, and still has 2 seasons to make his mark (even though nobody really expects anything at this point). The comment section brought up a good point, though. I wonder if he was ever approached about the fullback/hback position switch that Grant has made. With his speed and size and crackerdom, he seems like a perfect fit there.
I’m obviously very excited for the 2019 season, and think we should have an excellent shot at the conference title and a berth in the playoffs again, but I’m almost as pumped about seeing Eason in Montlake. I hope he absolutely kills it. Their spring game isn’t until the 27th, and he’s getting a solid push from the (presumed) backup QB. Eason hasn’t been named the starter yet, but got all the first team reps last practice.
There’s a bonkers interview with outgoing UT lber Johnathan Kongo about Butch. Some choice snippets: “It was about fluff and having cool this, cool that. We need to have new TVs. We were changing TVs like every week. Or we need new wallpaper.” “Players, we loved Butch...it was fun to be there and go to school there. But as far as the football side, it was lacking. It was just lacking, man.” “Everything was what the public’s gotta know. We gotta broadcast this or that. There was too much of that, instead of the stuff that really matters. Like wins.” “A lot of things I was told during recruiting, I’m not going to go into because I love the program and I don’t want to put them in a bad light, but a lot of what I was told was a bunch of bs. A bunch of bs.” “Man, this place is BS. People couldn’t wait to leave.” “They’ll throw you under the bus just like that. They didn’t give an F about you.”
