Does that mean he's going to GR next year? And if yes, we're probably looking at 2 years (possibly more) until he's in Detroit?
Depends on the goalie situation in GR, but yes most likely. If he's the clear backup in GR he might get sent to the ECHL for a stint to get more games.
I would guess Rybar gets re-signed and he and Larsson are your goalies in GR next year, Sateri is gone. Fulcher will be in Toledo / be the 3rd string in GR.
Looking at their stats, it appears Rybar got a lot less support than Sateri did this year in GR. Rybar had a 2.49 GAA and .908 save percentage, which is better than Sateri's 2.84 GAA and .899 Save percentage. However Rybar was 16-16-5 while Sateri was 22-11-5
I wonder what the wings will do with Veleno. If I'm not mistaken he cant go to the AHL next year until January when he turns 20. He has nothing left to do in the qmjhl. Not sure he is far enough along to make the Wings though.
He can play in GR next season, as he was granted exceptional status as a 15 year old. You just need to play four years in the CHL to be AHL eligible; not a specific age.
I am having trouble finding the exact rule, hope you are right. However this article says its age 20 Article The NHL and CHL have an agreement in place that stipulates if a player drafted from one of the three leagues that make up the CHL doesn’t join his NHL club at the beginning of a season, that he must return to the major junior team he was selected from. The AHL is not an option for CHL players until they turn 20. When a player’s CHL season ends, they are allowed to join an AHL club on an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of that AHL season. But when the next season begins, the player’s options fall back to the NHL or CHL if he’s under 20.
Nevermind. This shows the exception you mentioned https://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2012/8/1/3213217/bruins-nhl-chl-ahl-agreement-CBA-talks-2012 Players drafted and playing for CHL teams are ineligible to play in the professional minor leagues (AHL, ECHL) until they are 20 years old (by December 31st of that year) or have completed four years in major juniors
I hope Rasmussen can play C in GR next season. I think he needs to be given the opportunity. Svech was given a year back of waiver exemption for not playing this year, so he I’ll for sure start in GR. It’s good for him considering he missed a full season. I could see something like: Hirose - Veleno - Puempel Smith - Rasmussen - Svech
Do you have the wings signing 3 free agent forwards, or do you have guys like Abby, Helm, Ffk and de la rose playing on the 3rd line? We have about 6 top 9 forwards going into next year (Bert, Larkin, Mantha, AA, Zadina, Frans). I have to think Ras or Hirose going to be on that 3rd line.
I could see our first rounder make the team (if it’s a guy like Dach or Cozens). I then think some overpriced vets will get top 9 spots, because that’s what we do.
I could see our forwards next year working out like Bertuzzi-Larkin-Mantha (FA)-AA-Zadina Hirose-Frans-Frk Abdelkader-Glendenning-Helm de la Rose, Ehn Puempel-Rasmussen-Terry Elson-Veleno-Svechnikov Smith-Turgeon-Kuffner Elson-Holmstrom-Pearson Pope, Gallant Can't see making room for 3 Free Agents, unless we can dump some of the dead weight. All of those forwards would be under contract (Except Frk, Homstrom and Turgeon as RFA, and Gallant who hasn't got a ELC yet). Hirose and Ras could switch spots or both could beat out Frk. FA signing could be a center and we move AA back to wing too. I expect, like with Zadina, our rookie starts in College, CHL or Russia or will be a defense man.
DeToxRox, int he vein of lineups, Prashanth Iyer did a very thorough write-up on how to build the Wings' roster. He is really preaching for patience and waiting for the 20-21 and 21-22 FA classes while we sort out contracts and logjams. https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2...e-red-wings-my-approach-to-the-2019-offseason I really like his analysis, great follow on Twitter for those of you who don't already.
Abby has to be a top 5 worst contract in hockey if not the worst. We are paying him 2nd line money to be one of the worst forwards in the NHL
I'm coming around on Cozens and Dach. I think there will be someone I like available at 6. I think Podkolzin, Dach, Cozens, Zegras, Byram and Turcotte would all be picks I'd be ok with. Still think Zegras or Byram are my top 2 choices. Think Zegras playmaking on a line with Zadina and AA would be a great 2nd line. And hope Ras and Veleno develop into real solid 3rd line guys. Byram is obvious because the need for high end defense prospects.
Veleno’s floor is 3C, I think his upside is a really good 2C. With Larkin as 1C, which I think we’d all agree with at this point. So the question is, do we think Ras can be a 3C? We obviously need help on D. Wing looks to be pretty set for the top 6 with Mantha, Zadina, AA, Bertuzzi. If we got Podko, who does that make a 3rd line winger out of those 5? So all things equal I think we go with Byram if available, then one of the centers if not. A question for if picking a center is if we got with the highest ceiling but highest risk or lowest ceiling or lowest risk, or somewhere in the middle. There’s prospects that fit each of those projections at center.
I still prefer Zegras because he has creativity we don’t have anywhere on the roster. Put him on the second like one day with Zadina and AA. You have Larkin, Veleno and Glendening to provide defense. Let those guys just go for it.
If we draft one of the centers, think we move Ras to the wing and Veleno could be a top level 3rd line center. If we take Podko, I think they try and keep AA at center until Veleno can take over on the 2nd line or we sign a short term older vet to fill in. I expect Ras, Veleno and our draft pick this year if a forward wont start in lineup next year so we may need a stop gap forward to bridge to those guys. I agree defense is more important and Byram is my #1 choice, but I'm thinking he is gone when we pick.
I bet Illitch and Vinik had an agreement in place well in advance that allowed the team to talk to Yzerman during the season. I assume the agreement entailed nothing being announced until the Lightning season ended.
Wings exploiting this Yzerman news, just got a call from ticket office to put a season ticket deposit down. Voicemail started "in case you didnt hear, Steve Yzerman will be announced at a press conference today "
Love the "Ken Holland has been promoted" line. Apparently he signed an extension as well to stay with the team.
As long as Holland has no say in organizational moves, I’m good with it. He was a garbage GM post salary cap era.
