John Stockton was the better PG and deserves to be on this team, but if you're building a team of 90s players to take on the 2010s, I'd like to see Gary Payton on Steph.
one of the main things I agreed on with Simmons with his pyramid or whatever was Duncan over Kobe, which at the time probably seemed preposterous to most. But Kobe's game isn't gonna age well. Also kinda think everyone underrates Shaq in these discussions. Pre-Lebron he was the best at the rim scorer in the league and that tends to indicate the best player- was Lebron for all those year and now it's Giannis. With Howard and the HOF discussion, I just don't see why the basketball HOF is that important. They let a lot of questionable dudes in, much more so than NFL or MLB
So these assholes will drop a Fast Fucking Five Rewatchables episode on a fucking Sunday but the following week for Major League they're taking their sweet ass time
its the greatest film franchise in movie history. i own them all only a matter of time before they go to space
I listened to his emergency Magic pod because Mannix was on. He compared every situation about Magic and LAL to Boston, Ainge, Boston owners, etc. I wasn't even mad. It was impressive. The Stugotz part after that amused me and was very much worth the listen, though.
Yeah it drives me crazy that he keeps listing Pierce as a star that belongs to one city and played for one city their entire career. Motherfucker, they traded Pierce and he played for other teams for like 5 years
This actually happened today: Russillo - "Harden gets to the FT line over 11 times a game" BS - "Tatum only gets to the line 2.6 times a game!"
I listened to the "emergency" Magic resignation pod this morning. It was so Boston centric. So funny. They didn't mention if they don't get off Mozgov contract, there is no first max slot. The Cleveland trade that sent Clarkson ect. opened up the second max slot (along with stretch provision on Deng). If they don't have 2 max slots, Lebron probably isn't coming and if they didn't have one max slot it was impossible to get him. Those were done by Pelinka and good moves I would defend still. Yes, Russell has matured and improved but they had to give up something to right the wrongs of Jim Buss/Mitch. Magic was never going to do the work and that's on Jeanie but she has never meddled in basketball and makes clear she is going to hire people and empower them on the basketball side. That's valuable and an owner people will want to work for in the future.
I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt that the LeBron bashing is because of something behind the scenes/personal
I mean Lebron does deserve some. Simmons seems to be on it every podcast but I think some are just not used to any media member criticize lebron.
LeBron going to the Lakers and not making the playoffs is one of the biggest NBA flops of the last decade. If you're doing multiple podcasts of 90+ minutes a week about the NBA, it's going to come up a lot because it's a massive story. Then you add in that Simmons has an entire career with history of not letting things go (he's still bringing up the Harden deal once a week all these years later). I don't think it's some personal vendetta against LeBron. If you're discussing the NBA for a 90 minute podcast for the last 4 months, LeBron is going to come up a lot.
Simmons isn't this what kids do? i watched 5 seconds of it but this seems totally harmless. i'm pretty convinced that Simmons' obsession with Lebron is only rivaled by some TMB's obsession with Simmons. talk to me when he launches a wrestling podcast for his kid.
He booted the only knowledgable Ringer golf personality from the golf podcast, could easily see Ben taking over for the Masked Man within 2 years
yeah man, that one. definitely not the ones where this thread routinely makes fun of what is probably a sixth grade kid, the latest example wherein the kid is emulating wrestling moves after just attending a couple events. the audacity! simmons, how dare you!
My brother and I had these when we were 9-10 and would throw all the couch cushions on the floor and jump off the couch and do wrestling moves.
Simmons has to talk about LeBron, it’s a big deal. That Davis trade that he tried to force scuttled two teams this year. He might be the only NBA media person that is willing to go at LeBron with something other than personal bullshit.
The wrestling is normal. An 11 year old being comfortable saying “take that bitch” while his dad is filming is what I was referring to. Maybe I’m overreacting but that seems abnormal to me. I’ve git no problem with the Lebron talk. It’s the biggest storyline in the nba.
The context of Bill is always more explainable when you remember he’s a superstitious “bad ju-ju” numb nuts. “Embiid feels Odinish”. He can explain the raptors losing, because Lowry was scoreless, but somehow can’t manage the same logic when Philly shoots terrible and 3/5 starters combine for about 15 points. Bill wants that Philly team to go down so hard it’s cute.
The Ringer has def played a role, and I’m glad I’ve become a bigger nba fan over the last 3-4 years. I don’t get to see too many west coast games so thank god the east has come on recently.
I basically can’t listen to any of their pods. The content just plays itself out, and it’s not really their fault. It’s a long season and how many takes can you make unless something big happens
I take recs. I don’t read that many bball articles online and haven’t really listened to Lowe’s content even though he’s highly regarded. I’ll have to give him a download soon.
Lowe post is appointment listening for me every time unless he’s interviewing a player or coach that I’m just not interested in, he’s incredibly good.
