always wanted the Sharks core to win a Cup together, but it seems like that opportunity is passing them by yet again.
The Sharks have been good but not won a cup for so long that I’d be upset when they actually do win one. I like my loser franchise to keep losing.
Tom Wilson already ended their season when he KO’d Cernak, so it only got a from me. Speaking of Tom Wilson.. I heard he and Orpik had more goals in these playoffs than Crosby. Can anyone confirm?
If we get past Dallas, we were 1-4 against Stl and 1-3 against the Jets in the regular season. Don't feel comfortable about playing either one one of them.
I've lived in Columbus for close to 4 years now, it is rare for me to see people posting about the BJs on Social Media. Even last year against the Caps it felt like it was just me watching the series and no one cared here. It used to make me sad because playoff hockey is so great.I lived in Chicago from 2011-2016, and the Hawk playoff watches at bars were a blast to be a part of. My wife and I went early to a bar this past Friday to get a seat to watch game 2 and we were the only people there, it was just odd, in Chicago you had to be there 2 hours early to even sniff a seat at most bars during the playoffs. This morning it feels like everyone I know in Columbus posted something about the BJs. I'm excited this city is finally getting to understand what playoff hockey is like Hopefully this continues
Reminds me of Nashville two years ago. Swept Chicago as the 8-seed on their way to making the Stanley Cup Finals. The whole city has been all in ever since.
Karlsson looked awful this series, even worse than letang. Even jake gardiner is playing better than karlsson
Sucks losing this way and there are a lot of people who I’m mad at but I’m also capable of being happy for jackets fans. Would have liked to see minimum fight from my team but the jackets deserve credit for never letting their foot off the gas. If the series was flipped and played out like most thought it would, I’m willing to bet the lightning don’t sweep. We would have given a game or two away. Have to go for the jugular when you have the chance in hockey and they certainly did that.
Jake Gardnier plays better than no one. I watched him closely the one shift and he turned it over like 3 times and floated away from his guy in front of the net. Hes fucking trash
This is best case scenario and I hope for a similar outcome for Columbus Hockey needs the smaller markets like Columbus and Carolina to succeed
This playoff series aside, what is the general feeling about the team in the area? And what could this do for the growth of the sport in Columbus?
Hockey has its following here mostly in the transplants and the youth who grew up here. The majority of fans are 45 and younger, these are the people who grew up with the BJs being here since 2000. Bjs have done a good job of making the games extremely fan friendly for families, they've been nurturing this younger generation of fans for years despite the corniness of the antics in the stands. Those first generations of BJ fans from 2000 or so are now in their 40's and have income to spend. I'd also argue the people who attend BJ's games are much more white collar and educated than what you would see at other Ohio Professional sports. The older men and blue collar types in Columbus will never embrace the BJs fully (yes there are some exceptions), they are just too far brainwashed into the "hockey is for Canadians, GO BUCKEYES" mentality. Ohio is stereotyped correctly in the media even if Columbus is more similar to Austin than Cleveland as a whole I do think a playoff run will help people embrace the quirkiness of the BJs, hopefully make it "cooler" to openly be a fan here
You were absolutely right here. going to be difficult because I just don't see a scenario where they will be as good next year unless Korpisalo takes a monster step and Wennberg goes from complete trash to very good during the offseason. Losing Panarin and Bob will be brutal.
I think if they win another series it will be easier to resign guys in theory, it might not be Bob or Panarin but resigning Duchene and Dzingle would help lessen the blow. The French rookie kid Texier has been a revelation and the BJ's just signed some superstar Russian D Vladislav Gavriko who is supposed to be good and joining them soon. Bjs also have alot of cap room for 2020 so they've got alot to work with Bad no, playoffs likely fringe
I'd be really surprised if either Bob or Panarin return to CBJ. Everything we are hearing down here is that even a cup win wouldn't change either one's mind. Hey, you never know, but it's unlikely. some grade A hyperbole here. Quick google search found that even the GM expects him to need a year or 2 in the AHL. Doesn't sound like this guy is the next Panarin. If they keep Duchene and Dzingle they won't be bad, but you can't underestimate the impact losing an All Star caliber goalie and a top 3-5 winger in the NHL will have on a team.
Yeah, same for Tampa during their 2004 (?) cup year. Sometimes a run is all it takes for a city to buy in.
CBJ didn't feel good about playing TBL before game 1. Anything can happen. Although I'm still very nervous about Dallas tbh.....but I wanted dump to see my initial post and rustle a jimmy or two It's exciting and frustrating all in the same breath. Been a Preds fan since their inception. Haven't missed a playoff game since I can't remember when. Although we are now thought of as "legit", we've put a damn good team on the ice since 2003-04. We've only missed the playoffs 3 times in those 15 years. I wish the fans had been here all along but I guess I'm happy they are here now. I guess it's inherent that people don't want to support perceived "losers" especially when football is king. I guess this is what a general soccer fan in the US feels like. With all that having been said, I hope it takes off for the CBJ. Very happy they aren't on the same side of the bracket as the Preds.
Stuff like an 8 seed (who barely made the playoffs) not just eliminating, but sweeping, the team who had the best regular season over the last 25 years or whatever is why the NHL playoffs are superior to all of the other professional sport postseasons
Oh I agree. I won't put another run past the Preds this year with what the stars are capable of especially if Pekka plays like he did during the regular season last year and for most of the playoffs the year before that. Just that they haven't given a ton of reason for confidence this year.
Shit, thought we were playing tonight. I'm gonna lose my mind tomorrow night with playoffs and the draft.
