“When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

Would love to see the full list of those factors spelled out.

Brad Paisley breaks ground on free grocery shop in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country star Brad Paisley took the controls of a backhoe to dig up the first pile of dirt in the space that will become a free grocery store to support needy families in Nashville, Tennessee.

Paisley donned a cowboy hat-shaped construction helmet for part of Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for The Store, which is a partnership with his alma mater Belmont University.

The country star and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, said they got the idea after volunteering with their kids at a similar store called the Unity Shoppe in Santa Barbara, California. Construction on the Nashville store is projected to be completed by the end of the year.

“Hunger and food insecurity is a real issue in Nashville,” said Williams-Paisley. “One in seven people deal with food insecurity. That means they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. And it’s even worse for kids, one in five children.”

The store will operate like a real grocery store so that people can go shopping through the aisles and Belmont students and other volunteers will scan their items, but no money will change hands.

“We really want to get people before this is a major crisis,” Williams-Paisley said. “We want to help people in this gap where they are trying to get back on their feet.”

The store will be located on Belmont’s campus and next to the university’s Ministry Center, which will provide heath care and legal aid ministry clinics.

Paisley said this model “takes away the sting of embarrassment for a parent who maybe feels that way because they can’t feed their kid.”

Even the mechanical horse for kids on the outside of the store will be free, he said.

“The kids should not know what their parent is going through,” Paisley said. “That’s not stress a child needs.”

Buddy, I think he already is.

It’s damn near impossible to get a face value ticket to his shows (at least in Atlanta).

Part of that is he plays small venues, for some reason. And only recently has he started adding multiple nights at the same venue.

Colter’s live show is great. He played a tiny 100-150 place venue here in Columbia last year that he’s definitely too big for now, unfortunately.

Well, I hope not. Because that would mean he becomes Chris Stapleton-esque and I would want no part of that.

    Now, Sturgill-level? Okay. That’s cool.

Yeah this is exactly the scale of future career choices I’m envisioning. He’ll probably have a lot of the same opportunities Sturgill has had in the last few years, many of which I assume he’s turned down in the name of creative freedom.

Its an unpopular opinion but I think Stapleton is doodoo so I don’t know what his path to getting where he is was like.

Chris is one of the best songwriters and musicians out there imo, but made some poor decisions with regard to getting fame. I don’t think he sold out per se, but he didn’t stick to his guns like some others have. He’s a better Blues musician any way

It's one my more hipster takes, but I was all about Stapleton when Traveller first came out. Thought it was incredible. Then he played with Timberlake and the whole paradigm changed. I saw him live at an outdoor amphitheater in North Mississippi and had one of the worst concert experiences of my life. It was the same crowd you'd see at a Jason Aldean (or whomever) show. It totally changed how I absorb his music.

And to your first point: When are we getting new Childers? He plays LOTS of unreleased original stuff live, but I've not heard anything about a new album.

I don’t even really care about the change in music as much, to be fair. Just the fact that in mere months we went from seeing him at venues like Georgia Theatre to having to pay absurd prices for arena shows to see the same basic set. It turned me off pretty quickly.

Saw Tyler Childers in Columbia last night. Was an incredible show, mid-set solo acoustic run was a real highlight. Crowd was bananas, he’s going to have to make a similar choice to Stapleton here soon on size of venue. Would much prefer he takes the Isbell route.
