Got her home she is super stoned on pain meds. Eye infection should clear up in a few days. Vet said it could be weeks or months before we know how her leg is.

Every website I've found about building a doghouse says to measure your dog from ground to top of the head to get the height. Problem is I've yet to find anything saying how tall Belgians are other than shoulder to ground.

Why are you building a dog house? Are you planning on leaving him alone in the back yard for extended periods of time? That's probably not going to work out well with a Malinois. :twocents:

Fiance's dad built us a dog house cause the local warden came to our house over the winter to yell at us for not having shelter available for our husky. Don't think they measured anything, think they just built it, lol. He never uses it, but at least we can say it's there. Think it ran us like $60 to build.

Not for extended times but there are times where he might be outside for a couple hours. A coworker has a wood working shop and offered to build one for free as long as I come over and help so why not? I ran the idea by his trainer and she said that as long as he is not digging under the fence it would be fine.

Especially while he's still being housebroken and can't be completely trusted alone with the cat yet. It would be nice to be able to leave him outside if we like go to the movies vs having to put him in his crate every time. And a doghouse would make sure he has shelter say if one of these instant thunderstorms rolls through.

Trust your trainer, but just remember that he's not going to stay in that fence for a second longer than he wants. Also, is it a wooden privacy fence or chain link? If he can see through it, he's going to bark his ass off at everything/everyone he sees.

Thankfully we have a tall privacy fence right now. Not saying that a mail wouldn't find his way over it. Just shouldn't be as easy as a chain link one.

He'd be happier in the crate than left alone outside, IMO.

Yea probably should have mentioned that originally but it's like a 6 foot privacy fence. Might be a little taller as I can't really see over the top of it.

You think so? I didn't ask the trainer about that.

By the way, he definitely likes the indestructible ball. Will be buying the one from varsity pets when he inevitably destroys the knock off Amazon one.

Mine absolutely love their crates. Both of them will often go hang out in them with the door open when we're just sitting around watching TV. Outside, they feel like they're "on" in a way that they don't when crated.

Have discovered lately that he meets new people better that aren't timid with him. He doesn't get aggressive with timid people but he gets a little weary himself. Folks that I've introduced him to that have experience with breeds like him or large breeds and go straight to petting him and stuff (after we do his greeting command of course) he doesn't act shy with at all and goes straight to playing with them.

Oh and he finally met a dog to play with outside of training and daycare to play with and wore himself out.

Our small dog wants nothing to do with playing whether its dogs or toys. And where we stayed in Bama this weekend, their pit is 12 and beyond her playing with a puppy days. But on the way home we stopped at my brothers and he met the 2 year old German shepherd/doberman mix they rescued. After some sniffing around them two were all over the yard playing and chasing each other.

Idk what to do, thought I'd share here. My Ruby had been battling cancer and stage 4 heart disease since October, we spent a ton of money and you wouldn't know she was sick really. But lately she wasn't feeling too good so we took her in, nothing really changed. Last Tuesday she had a pretty big seizure while I was home working. It was traumatic for me personally but i rushed her to the local dog hospital. They kept her overnight, and even though it had nothing to with her medical conditions when we got her back Wednesday she was completely different. No function in her back legs, could barely hold her head up. Thursday morning, even though we wanted to wait it out a day or two, she was completely gone. She just laid on my wife for 4 hours so in the morning barely able to keep her eyes open. I contacted an in home euthanasia service who came out and put her to rest peacefully. I've been so lost without her, my whole world revolved around when she had to go out or eat, and while I'm home working I feel so lonely when I look to her normal direction. My wife and I have plans to get another dog in the future, we're such big dog lovers we can't resist it. But I wanted to share my girl cause I'm so personally heartbroken. Thanks for looking.

Sorry to hear it, Poetic. It's devastating now, but pretty soon you'll remember more of the good times and less of the sick ones. One thing that helped me was putting all of the pics/videos between my wife and I in one amazon photos album. Flipping through that brought back a lot of great memories.

Definitely go the crate route. Feed him in there and make it a positive thing. Mine sleep in there all the time, they love it. I would be too worried if mine were outside. Any number of things they can get into.

He's a working dog and bred to do this. He evaluates situations and determines what to do, he's weary of them not himself. You have to worry about him around the timid people and correct accordingly. He'll try to control what they do, herd, and be wary around someone who is not "acting normal" to him.

Team crate. Have the guy build you a large indoor crate. I built one for my dogs and they love it. Plenty of room for them both to move around and be comfortable. Even when I’m home and leave the door open they stay in there most of the time. Especially Lily.

Oh the trainer drove that point home about controlling him. We have a very specific way of greeting new people that we do with him. Just interesting to see the different responses from him, even at 14 weeks, to the different ways people react to him.

That may be an option in our next house. The current house is not big enough for something like that. When we buy/build a house I'd love to have a large, covered run with a house inside the fenced in part of our yard. Something he could spend a coue hours at a time in safely when we aren't home.

No real plans. Just came up with it on the fly. 1x6s held together by 1x4s. Top, back and bottom. Then the other frames are 1x3s on top and bottom, 1x4s on left and right with 1x2 slats (left and right side of the crate, two fronts and the door). Made it 6 ft long x 33in tall and 33in wide.

We’d like to get a shed, I wouldn’t mind building a nice run on to it. We also want to get our yard fenced it. Tosu spends more time outside than in.

We were eating dinner at a pizza place one time and our Husky was in the car. It was 25 degrees out. Someone called the cops and they came to our table. The cop was really annoyed that he had to come in there. I calmly said “Huskies are Arctic dogs. If she wasn’t with us in the car and we were home she’d be outside laying in the snow. You have to be kidding me?” He just crumpled up his notes and left.
I would have loved to have known what busy body called that in.

She was an amazing dog, the hole in my heart is huge and honestly I'm going to over compensate and get 2 doggos at this point. We've agreed on Beagles and have the first set for early August. Will probably get a 2nd a few month after we train the first.

I saw a car pull into our driveway and sit for a little while. Karma got them and they got stuck in the driveway and struggled for 30+ minutes. I just know it was them who called. If he wanted in he’d whine like usually. Appreciate the rando caring about a dogs wellbeing, but at least know something about the breed before calling the dog warden.
