South Carolina serial rapist arrested after more than 20 years on the loose

A South Carolina serial rapist has been arrested after more than 20 years on the loose, police announced Wednesday.

Gregory Howard Frye, 52, was identified as the attacker, the Spartanburg Sheriff’s Office said. He was arrested on Tuesday and taken to the Spartanburg City Police Department.

He has been charged with one count of burglary in the first degree, kidnapping, and first degree criminal sexual conduct.

Between 1995 and 2003, 12 women in Spartanburg County were attacked at apartment complexes in the early morning. DNA testing revealed that all the women were victims of the same attacker.

All the victims were white women, with ages ranging from 14 to 51. Through interviews with the victims, a description of the attacker developed. “A black male, 5′10” to 6′0″ tall, 160-180 pounds," the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Attacks occurred 16, 20 and 37 months apart, revealing the attacker did not have a pattern. One of the victims was attacked twice, bringing the total number of incidents to 13.

In the last six months, the Sheriff’s Office “began an aggressive new look” at the cases, and new technological advances allowed DNA to be matched to six of the victims’ cases.

Additional charges against Frye are pending, and he will appear before a circuit court judge for an arraignment at a later date. Two of his attacks occurred in Spartanburg city limits, and the other 11 happened in the county outside the city.

Staten Island does not strike me as a place to piss people off at..

'Charred and unidentifiable’ body found in storage unit believed to be that of missing teacher

    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —
New York police investigators said a badly burned body found in a Staten Island storage facility Thursday is believed to be that of a missing teacher last seen over the weekend -- and investigators are seeking murder charges against her estranged husband.

Jeanine Cammarata, 37, was last seen alive around 9 p.m. Saturday near McVeigh and Nehring avenues in Staten Island, according to New York Police Department officials. CBS New York reported that Cammarata’s boyfriend last saw her when she dropped him off at his apartment that night.

The Staten Island Advance reported that Cammarata was supposed to pick two of her children up from her husband, Michael Cammarata, at his home in Queens that night. The children, a 7-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son, live with their father and his girlfriend.

Man, 29, who 'saw his father kill his mom when he was three-years-old', but was never believed, moves home 20 years later and digs up her skull in the backyard, leading to his dad's arrest and trial

A man is set to go on trial for murdering his wife after his son discovered the remains of his mother in his childhood home two decades after he implicated his own father in her death.

Michael Haim appeared in a Florida court Monday where jury selection for his murder trial was completed.

Aaron Fraser, 29, was three years old when his mother Bonnie Haim disappeared. At the time, he tried to tell police that his 'daddy hurt mommy', but no one believed him and no physical evidence tied his father to the crime, according to the Florida Times-Union.

Even his mother's family members did not believe him. 'The credibility of a child is something that you have to judge in perspective,' Robert Pasciuto, Bonnie's father said in an 2010 episode of the true crime television series Unsolved Mysteries.

This was the school mentioned on I believe crime junkies and sword and scale podcasts....

Florida governor says 27 possible graves have been found near a controversial boys reform school

Nearly eight years after shutting its doors following a bone-chilling 111-year legacy of abuse, Florida's Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys is still unearthing dark secrets.

Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote that "anomalies consistent with possible graves," were discovered at a site near the defunct Marianna, Florida, school during a recent ground pollution cleanup.

University of South Florida Anthropology Professor Dr. Erin Kimmerle told CNN that a company conducting "ground penetrating radar" (GPR) tests on the grounds reported discovering 27 anomalies in a wooded area about 500 yards north of the area where her team found the remains of 51 boys in 2013.

Kimmerle said the area is near where an old working farm on the school grounds used to be.

Nearly 100 children died while at the school, according to state and school records, many as a result of a tragic dormitory fire in 1914 and a deadly flu epidemic in 1918. But the circumstances surrounding other deaths have remained a mystery and it has long been unclear who is buried where.

It's too early to tell if the most recent discovery is a gravesite, Kimmerle said, and there will be more testing -- including "ground truth" testing -- as needed. "Ground truth" testing includes tedious digging of trenches and test pits to see what exactly is in the ground there and confirm what is possibly seen on the GPR tests.

cliffs: Guy purchases used furniture and see's the message written below. He considers going to the coordinates, but soon finds out that the area is on a military base and is an old bomb practice range. Police have a jurisdictional issue.

UPDATE - ~ This was from someone on the original facebook post.

Ok. So I shared this to my personal group and a friend of mine lives nearish to there, so he called the local cops. Here is my friend's own words:

Spoke with a Lieutenant McManus at the Polk County sheriff's office -- or Highland County? I dunno at the moment -- and gave him the relevant info on the image.

Apparently their homicide detective had already been contacted by one person earlier, and had brought it up to him, so he was somewhat aware.

Since the area's on a military base, it's secure and unable to be really accessed at this time. They're investigating what they can do regarding it, and will, if they have to, wait until tomorrow to check into it.

    That's all I know

Second update : Just spoke with the homicide detective from Polk County, as well. I think it was the homicide detective. He is coordinating with his counterpart at Highland County, because apparently it's a rough call for exactly whose jurisdiction it is.

In any event, they have to get military authorization to get out there, so it'll be a hot minute. Interestingly, beyond just being procedural red tape, it actually has a purpose -- That area's actually a live bombing range, and they need to be sure they won't get blown to hell and back when they DO investigate.

He will reach back out to me once they have investigated and verified what's up. Once I know what's what, I'll pass that info on to you, and you can get it on to the page later on.”

The community response is as backwards as the family. They’re all wearing blue shirts and having vigils, but not a single person would ever help out this family in another situation - until the kid is dead. And none of these people give a shit about other kids in bad spots.

I wanted to go to the vigils solely to ask what they were doing to ensure this doesn’t happen in further cases.

    Krasner again making headlines

Philly DA’s Office won’t prosecute cannabis users for DUI unless they are actually stoned

The Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association testified against legalizing cannabis for adult recreational use at a hearing in Harrisburg Monday, eliciting a stinging response disputing the association’s claims from Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.

“Recreational marijuana is not safe or harmless,” Association president John Adams told a joint hearing of the Democratic Policy Committees. “Our opposition stems from science, research and data, as well as information from our addiction specialists.”

Rejecting the association’s claims, Krasner called it the group that “gave us an 800 percent increase in jail population” and also called Pennsylvania’s current cannabis laws “dumb.”

The District Attorneys Association is "not relying on science,” Krasner said at the joint hearing. “They’re relying on pseudoscience, which has been a well-funded industry to prosecute this, because people make money — including criminal defense attorneys — make money when it is prosecuted.”

Adams and Krasner are former criminal defense attorneys.

Krasner said his office will not prosecute cannabis DUIs “unless people show active — I repeat, active — psychoactive amounts of cannabis in their system that rise to a level which has generally scientifically been agreed upon as affecting driving.”

It is unclear what that level might be. Tests can only detect the level of THC metabolites in the blood, but not determine intoxication.

Adams said that states where marijuana has been legalized for adult recreational use are seeing “negative consequences.” Legalization has not ended the black market and tax revenues from marijuana sales have not outweighed the costs, which he said were drugged driving, absenteeism, and drug treatment.

Adams also said that legalized states have experienced “significant increases” in the number of fatal crashes in which marijuana use has been implicated.

Krasner dismissed that claim vigorouslyand blamed the District Attorneys Association for propagating the myth of cannabis-caused crashes.

“What that law currently says is that if there is any detectable amount of digested marijuana in your system, then you are DUI,” Krasner said. "So in other words, if I smoked a joint 30 days ago, it has absolutely no psychoactive effect whatsoever on anything I am doing, and I drive a car, then I am driving under the influence. This is absurd.

“It has been the law in Pennsylvania forever. It is on a collision course with our medical marijuana, which is going to tell people medically it’s OK for you to take this for the various neuropathy or other forms of disease that you have, but somehow you can’t drive. It’s absurd and it’s indicative of what we have gotten from the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association.”

Patrick Nightingale, an attorney and cannabis advocate from Pittsburgh, testified that though fatal crashes linked to a detectable amount of THC metabolite in the blood more than doubled in Colorado from 2013 to 2017, it was because Colorado only recently began testing for THC in all DUI investigations.

Adams said the District Attorneys Association supports legislation to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. “Such legislation would help clear cases from the criminal docket and allow law enforcement officials to focus on other matters.”

“We consider this a smart, commonsense approach,” said Adams, the district attorney for Berks County.

Some podcasts not mentioned on page 1...

    Write up from another website:

The Teachers Pet - A single story podcast about Lyn Dawson a women from Australia who went missing in the 80's, most probably killed by her husband. Highly addictive and super well done. A must listen

Criminal - (I'm Phoebe Judge and this is Criminal :) a very well done podcast about many different subjects surrounding crime. Very interesting topics, a bit lighter than most true crime podcasts but still done in a serious manner. And I absolutely love the tone and cadence of the host.

Broken Harts - A single story podcast about a white Lesbian couple who adopted 6 black kids and the subsequent murder-suicide of the entire family. Very intriguing but heartbreaking and infuriating.

Believed - A single story podcast about Larry Nasser and USA Gymnastics Sex Abuse Scandal. No murder here but a very well done podcast from the victims point of view

Bear Brook - A great single story podcast about the bodies in the barrels (a women and three children). It's a famous unsolved story but dna science has recently flipped this case upside down. A lot more is known now but part of the story is still a mystery. Absolutely fascinating

Over my dead body - single story podcast about the murder of Dan Markel. Very well done podcast from wondery but so much of the case is still unresolved. The Prodfather which follows the end of season one is also very interesting

Uncover: The Village - An investigative podcast about the recent arrest of serial killer Bruce Mcarthur who murdered 8 men from Toronto's gay village between 2010 and 2017. Police denied for years there was a serial killer responsible for the missing men in the village. This podcast starts off by focusing on the victims (mostly recent immigrants) but then focuses on the relationship between police and the gay community in Toronto all the way back to the 70's and the many still unsolved murders of gay men from the area. I'm really hooked on this podcast at the moment.

Crimes of Passion: Like the title states, each episode focuses on a infamous crime of passion. I really enjoy the narrator, well done.

Real Crime Profile - This is my go to podcast when I've run out of things to listen to. Three hosts, including a retired FBI profiler discuss current events, review crime documentaries and give their take on things.

The Dropout - Another single story podcast about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos. Not about murder but this woman is basically a sociopath who conned some of the most powerful and richest people in America into giving her billions of dollars. I found the podcast much better than the HBO documentary.

Shattered Season 3 - Child Killer: Very interesting podcast about a serial killer in Detroit in the 1970's who killed children. It's very well done but I couldn't make it through the entire series, just way too depressing.

Maddie - A podcast about the disappearance of Madeline McCann. Haven't listened to it yet but I've heard a lot of good reviews

A&E PRESENTS: DATING APP HORRORS: THE UNTOLD STORY

Dating apps have become an increasingly popular way for people to connect. Elizabeth Vargas examines the largely unregulated dating app industry and explores the risks of dating online, which in some rare cases has led to assault, rape and even murder. Vargas explores this topic through interviews with lawyers, detectives and advocates, who all hope that discussing this development will prevent future experiences and protect users.

very interesting idea/concept. I'm not sure this is the best case for this argument based on reading the article, but I'd like to see it tested/investigated regardless. It just appears this guy did not want to fully admit he actually did it…

His reply was the same opaque answer he gave psychiatrists after his arrest in 1985, and continued to give to anyone who asked, right until his execution in 2006. He did not know.

“He said, ‘If I did do it, I deserve what I get,’” Ms. Alley said. “‘But I don’t remember doing it.’”

Ward Francis Weaver Jr: Convicted for a double murder in 1984. His victims were Robert Radford, 18, and his girlfriend, Barbara Levoy, 23. He was later sentenced to death in the state of California.

Ward Weaver III: " In January 2002, twelve-year-old Ashley Pond disappeared en route to her bus stop in Oregon City, near Weaver's residence. Three months later, Pond's classmate, thirteen-year-old Miranda Gaddis, also vanished under mysterious circumstances. The disappearances received international media attention, and were profiled on various television programs, including Unsolved Mysteries. The remains of both girls were discovered on Weaver's property in August 2002. In 2004, Weaver was sentenced to life without parole for the sexual assault and murder of both girls."

Francis Weaver: "The stepson of infamous child killer Ward Weaver, was sentenced Friday morning to life in prison for the 2014 killing of a Grants Pass man. Weaver was found guilty Wednesday in the death of Edward Spangler. He cried when he addressed Spangler's family in court during the sentencing."

Note: Ward Weaver III was one messed up mother trucker. When the little girls went missing, he was interviewed over the television for Good Morning America because he was the neighbor. In the video, he had just poured concrete, and when asked what it was for, he lied and said that he was installing a jacuzzi. The girls were buried beneath the concrete slab the whole time.

Interesting read..... Guy gets a not guilty in a murder trial and then years later DNA proves it was him and they manage to manipulate (my thoughts at least) a 2nd trial that convicts him.

The Double Jeopardy Case of Tim Hennis
Since Hennis had already been tried and acquitted, double jeopardy prevented him from being tried in state court again. However, he could be tried in military court and in October of 2006, authorities successfully reenlisted Hennis back into the Army so that another trial could take place. The Army were able to try him twice for the same trial because of the dual sovereignty doctrine. They dropped the rape charge against Hennis due to the statute of limitations being expired.
