I'm looking at 3D targets. Where's the best place to get deals?

The prices vary a great deal between sites but availability and shipping probably even things out. I've bought from Lancaster before and liked their service

Check midway.com or the like for blemish models. Usually really cheap

My wife’s a lefty so I understand these troubles. The plus side is he gets hella better prices on bows when he grows up.

I see the top mission bow is $500. What little snazzy gadgets will I need, and how much for them?

To get hunting you need arrows, release, sight, broadheads and rest. That is really it. You want a stabilizer, quiver and some noise dampeners but it isn’t absolutely necessary. I bought a full package PSE Drive for about 450 all in. Over the last couple of years I have upgraded all of the components. This year I am going to upgrade to a higher end bow because I have really gotten into it.

I would recommend going into a good archery shop with a budget. Give them your budget and tell them you want to walk out being able to hunt for X number of dollars. This should include the sight, release, a dozen arrows (cut to draw length), stabilizer, quiver, rest, case and target. If you are traveling on an airline go ahead and bite the bullet for a travel case and then buy a cheap soft case to protect it when carrying on a four wheeler or in the truck. They should be able to get you all set up and more importantly fitted to the correct bow.

PS I walked in to buy a mission and walked out with the PSE. Go into it with an open mind.

Busted this bad boy the other day on the farm. Scored him at 143 and 2/8’s.

    IMO

Fall away rest. QAD is the jam. Would spend money here. Quiver isn’t super important but I have a fuse that I like. 5 pin sight. I got a Spot Hogg which is really nice. Sight is another place to spend money. Personally would never limit myself to anything less than 5 pin. Stabilizer is a stinger but I don’t know the difference between good and not good. I like gold tip arrows but Easton is great and carbon express is pretty good. Just make sure they’re cut to length and rated for your draw weight.

Talk to me about draw weight.

It’s not what you can pull back, but what you can hold at full draw for ~45 second

A slow arrow in the right spot is much more effective than a fast arrow in the wrong spot. Set it low at first. Not what you can pull 5 times but what you can pull at least 25 times in a row. If you can't practice because the draw is too high then you won't. It also lets you develop good form while you learn. You can always bump it up over time.

I've reached an age and a point where I almost need to shoot my bow at least weekly. It's therapeutic.
I'd rather hit balls at the range than actually play golf and I'd rather put 50 arrows into a foam block than almost anything else.

Agreed. Couple beers and shooting in the backyard is an ideal afternoon for me.

Randy Bobandi I would look into cheaper arrow rests as a beginner than the drop aways and also a sight with less pins, IMO. 3 pins is probably all you need starting out. 20yds, 30yds, and whatever you want a max range to be. 50yds maybe? Depending on where you're hunting, like in deep timber, compared to a field, you may not even need a pin over 30 yards. Look at a whisker biscuit rest. Your arrows won't be as accurate compared to a drop away, but when you're starting out trying to hit something at 20 yards I don't think it really matters. You'll save some extra money.

My son got a gobbler on Friday. Was the coolest hunt I've ever been on. Have never witnessed so many turkeys roosted at same place

    Untitled.png

He has now killed 1 jake and 2 gobblers. Exactly what I have killed and I've been going every season for 16 years. I went the next morning and got on two gobbling hot on the roost but flew down and had zero interest in our calls.

best part was hanging with my dad. He loves hunting, i liked it as a kid, but bailed on him a lot. I stopped all together for the most part these last 8 to 10 years bc of shit. Finally getting a much better relationship with my dad. Was so much fun this weekend hanging with him.

Ill about to fish and hunt a lot more and try to record it. i Have another video of a jake in the field. , but im gonna get a new go pro so its much better quality. I changed spots for my kill, and apparently missed out an a Mack Daddy turkey strutting where i was set up in the morning. with 4 jakes and a ton of hens. O well.

My head, was worried about the glare on the lens but I shot videos if a Jake and hen that morning with no issues. Was kinda dissapointed in not seeing a strut and the thrill of calling one in, but any time you are successful with a decent bird and hanging out with your dad is a good day

Cooking some of the turkey breast now, I'm on a health kick so the normal frying and them cooking in gravy is out.

I am trying baking with broccoli.

Gabe the dark meat to my aunt. She uses it as a base for turkey dressing. About the only way to eat that because of how tough it is.
