One of the dudes at daycare tosses her a ball as soon as she runs out into the yard. She balls so hard.
Been meaning to update everyone about my pug Siggy that got hit by the car. It’s been almost like have a new born all week being up at night giving her meds and stuff. They thought she may have severe nerve damage in her leg and she couldn’t walk when she came home. The vet hospital sent home pain meds and three different eye medications. The wife took her to our vet Monday and asked him about getting her an anti-inflammatory. He said he thought it would help and sent some home. She is now about 80% walking and starting to run around some. She kinda looks drunk when running definitely swerving. She also had a gash above her eye where the bumper hit her and her left eye was really infected. The gash and eye are completely healed now. It’s one of the most miraculous things I have ever witnessed. My kids have been very hands on with caring for her. It’s been great to see how much they love that dog.
So it might be a little too soon in the eyes on some, but the loss of our girl has been something we've prepared for since October. We werent ready to do the same breed, but did fall in love with another. And we came home with this little guy today... His first experience in the car wasnt the most pleasant, he definitely threw up 6 times and peed twice. Already had to give him a bath. So he's going to be a little worn out tonight I'm sure.
Park opened their pond back up. Tosu wasn't there long yesterday but it sure wore him out. Cutting daycare back 1 day a week to help save some money, so we'll be needing to take him to the park more. Fiance has 1 week day off a week so he'll be out all day those days, then 1 day a week he'll be caged while we're at work.
Got our first real test of Blue's training last night. Didn't realize he was standing next to me so when I opened the door to the garage he bolted out and headed for the street. My heart jumped out of my chest because I knew there was no way I'd catch him and we don't live far from some main streets. I remembered what the trainer said about him thinking it is a game if you chase him. So I just stood there and yelled out "Blue! Ah-lay!" And he froze kid step, turned around and ran right back to me. If nothing else, that alone is worth the price of training.
This is alibi. His morning routine is to lay on this sloth in hopes that we don't leave him for work.
Anyone have experience with a heeler? I am apart of a foster agency and was recommended fostering a heeler.
Puppying is hard, but it's kind of fun to try and mold them. Little guy has been great over night sleeping in his cage though we give him a couple breaks to go out and while I work from home. I can crate him a couple hours at a time with no fuss which allows me to work.
lol, knew someone would mention it. Got a ticket in with the apt complex. 2nd time it's come off the rails. Cute puppy though!
5 month old’s exercise needs won’t be quite as high as an adult. Will still be high energy and very mouthy. Focusing on mental stimulation goes a long way with them tricks, obedience, food puzzles will keep them happier longer than just exercise alone. Having said that I’ve had ACDs that are totally insane to live with and others that are content to sit and watch tv with their person. Also, they get really attached to one person might set yourself up for a foster fail. I love the breed and have fostered through acdra.org which has some good resources.
I had to put my dog down today. Was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. Not sure I’ll ever get over it
Also there’s no chance in hell I could have ever worked at a vet. Dogs are the most loyal creatures and I was fucking miserable knowing what was coming. I’m going to bury him at my house and make a memorial. Fucking sucks and even with all the condolences, the pain just doesn’t go away. Fuck
Sorry, man. And no, you won't get over it.. it's the one downside of having dogs. They're incredible but they just don't live long enough. I'm still sad from time to time about my Jack Russell that died 6 years ago.
mine is not a purebred heeler but he's a mix, got him when he was a year old-ish. Will never have another dog that is not some kind of cattledog ever ever again. Have had labs, beagles, jack russells, spaniels, goldendoodle... the cattledog is head and shoulders better than all the others.
Thanks guys. I got him when he was 6 weeks old. Was the best dog I’ve ever had. Not even ashamed I cried like a baby.
Sorry Realtree Buck , it is the hardest thing I ever did myself the first time. It's good we can be strong and human for them though. With time it gets easier but you'll always think about him. Hopefully remembering the good times.
Anyone have experience with automatic ball launchers? May be looking to get one but need to make sure the distance can be adjusted so it doesn't launch over the fence.
Blue would be all over this. And then all over every tennis ball in the stadium as well as trying to get all the loving at the same time.
That's the way my 12 month old lab is I'm kinda worried if I got her and auto ball launcher thing and left her out there, that she would go until she literally couldn't walk anymore
I've seen a couple that have automatic rest mode after like 15 minutes of operation. They shut off for like 15 minutes. Not sure if Blue would go find something else to do or destroy it for not doing what he wants to to do lol.
google found me this https://girastor.com/products/dog-tennis-automatic-throwing-machine?variant=27702169174091&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google Shopping same one listed for line $70 other places at that price it may be worth a try, if it gets destroyed NBD edit to add, they have free shipping too
Very tempting. Wondering what kind d of safety it has against throwing the ball while he is in front of it
Fyi, my MiL got us us one. It shoots like miniature tennis balls. They did a good job of not mentioning that. My dog never figured out how to put the ball in he just would attack that bitch when it made sounds. Granted the balls were broken and soggy after 10 minutes.
