Still at least 2 years away, but if he continues his trajectory it will be pretty great. He hasnt even played a full year of professional baseball yet.
Have to wonder where he fits in going forward. I’d like to think that Gorman will be up in 2021. Glad he’s going to be in the organization for longer now. One of my favorite players ever.
He could move to the inevitable dh spot when someone gets the call up. Goldy should hold up at 1st during the remainder of Carp’s deal.
I think Gorman is probably at least 2 years away from being a regular, so the deal makes a lot of sense from that perspective. If we get a DH, Martinez is the prime candidate for that spot.
2 years is best case scenario. Montero might get here sooner, but either way 2-3 years is great, time wise.
Glad you guys like the deal. I’m not nearly as versed in baseball contracts as other sports and my first thoughts were 1) damn that’s a short contract and 2) holy shit that’s expensive what are we doing. Love Carp and glad he’s sticking around
Depending on which estimate you use, Carpenter's fairly reliable 3-4 WAR/season are "worth" $24+ million/year, with his peak 5 WAR seasons approaching $40. There will be decline, but I think he's a good bet to be at worst worth the $19 million/year with a good chance of greatly exceeding that the first year.
I'm too dumb to know what WAR per year should = in $ but I am smart enough to know Yadi's ball just cleared the wall :)
Theyre much more likable now that whiney bitch Adrien Gonzalez is gone. And obviously having Joe Kelly and David Freese I love that he still gets standing O's every single at bat. Rightfully so
A bunch of cardinals players were at the Blues game last night. They showed Molina somewhat chugging a beer. I kind of hope he has a bad game, in a cardinals win to get some hot takes about him drinking the night before a game.
are we good? We might be good. sucks we're getting the post-good Andrew Miller, but you could kinda feel that one coming. Looks like another big swing and miss on signing a reliever off the free agent market for Mo and co. Wish we'd just stick in organization for bullpen. Also couldn't hurt to sing Kuechle to a one year deal since they're bring Martinez back as a reliever and continue to be confusing on Reyes.
I think we might be good. If we never have to play in Miller Park, we might be amazing. Seriously though , offense is way better than expected, but everyone is hitting their dicks off. Its hard to see everyone keeping this pace. Starting pitching has been a bit of a disappointment, so hopefully that gets back to closer to last year. Carlos is going to pitch out of the bullpen this year, so that should bolster it.
There are 5 days left in April, amd they've played Milwaukee 10 times. I'm guessing one series left there? Liking them so far. The staff has been ok and the hitting is starting to come around. I'll take it.
I think the key to the lineup this year will be Ozuna. If he's really recovered from the shoulder, we should be good there (not this good, but good). DeJong will come back down to earth and be streaky, but I don't think anyone else is too far above what could simply be considered good seasons for them. I still have major concerns about the starting pitching, but feel pretty good about the bullpen. It might not be elite, but it doesn't appear that it will be the thorn in our side it has been recently. Don't feel great about Hudson and Waino in the rotation and if Wacha's health is an issue (let's be honest, what are the odds), that rotation gets mighty problematic very quickly. That's where I feel like Kuechle would at least be a great stabilizer. He probably won't be ace like as he has previously, but I don't care. If he's willing to sign a 1-2 year deal, get it done. It's only money and we're not inclined to spend it elsewhere anytime soon. Then mix in Reyes in place of Hudson/Wainwright, maybe Martinez if we end up stretching him out, and suddenly rotation could be a strength. Dream would be ending the season Mikolas/Flaherty/Kuechle/Martinez/Reyes.
Requested mod action completed. Longcat removed and contract for hit on Goose issued. May God have mercy on his soul. Fuck the cardinals and God bless. Thanks, The Management
Reyes can't seem to do anything right. Broke his little finger on his left hand punching a wall. Feels more and more like we just aren't going to get much out of the guy.
I cant help but laugh that he was smart enough to punch w his non pitching hand, but not smart enough to not punch a wall. I suppose on the bright side, is he can still throw, and it's not going to delay him too much. Maybe by a week to get him some live starts after the finger heals.
