Man this is excellent, lost my Dad in November, just a really incredible tribute to a father from his son.
Really great article. I lost my dad when I was young to cancer and my mom 3 years back from cancer as well. I usually avoid these types of articles but read this one and really could relate. Appreciate him using his platform to post something like this.
So I JUST got into podcasts, strangely enough. The Binge Mode podcast, particularly their GOT show is well done. Conception can be a bit much, but it flows really well and both are quite knowledgeable.
Just wanted to also share love for Binge Mode. Had first listened to the 2 they did on The Good Place then my wife and I did all of Harry Potter. Saved GoT until lead up to this season. We would watch a few episodes of the show then listen to the episodes
There’s a lot of shitty game of thrones content out there (particularly in podcasting). Bing Mode is certainly not in that category.
Yeah, I was trying to find some good ones and most really are trash. Jason and Mallory, however, work extremely well together and have a more than appropriate amount of knowledge.
Jason needs to spend way less time at 10, but their knowledge of the lore and recall ability is top notch
Just now listening to it. He’s definitely all over his nuts. What’s with the “Why do we have to keep reminding ourselves KD is good” spiel? Who is just now realizing KD is good? It’s like he needed a reason to start a conversation on him.
saying KD "outplayed" LeBron the last 2 Finals without acknowledging the respective supporting casts is nuts, as is comparing LeBron going back to Cleveland being similar to KD joining the Warriors. I wonder how long it's gonna take Bill to suggest KD is better all-time
excited for Celts to go down 3-1 and Bill to whine about them even though 5 days ago he was definitely dreaming of winning a championship
Followed up by “I’m not trying to start a Lebron/KD debate”. Uh okay. The weirdest section to me was when he was talking about KD not being someone who’s all about scoring. Then literally the next sentence is “he wants to average 30 points over a whole month”. The whole conversation seemed forced.
Sick that we now get to hear about Bill's golf game in addition to his kids' sports teams. Him bragging about shooting a 45 is vintage Bill
Finished the Mean Girls rewatchables today. Bill might know more about underage Lindsey Lohan than he does Larry Bird and Brady combined.
Pretty sure he isn’t dumb, so I know when he suggests they bench Simmons he isn’t trying to honestly consider what the team should do. He’s thinking: how can I make a conference foe weaker?
Agreed, though whenever I see Qyburn I say his name the way Jason does and chuckle to myself a little. They could spend a little less time at 11, but it's by far the best mix of knowledge, passion, and fair critiques in the GoT podcast game.
Remember when Bill was saying all offseason how Ben Simmons didn’t really need to develop a jump shot? Has he walked that back at all? Now it’s all about how he needs to develop a jumper.
If Jason just toned down his ad reads and some of the transitions it would fix this issue completely, IMO. I don’t know if he’s trying to do a Bill Burr schtick or what, but he completely loses his fucking mind whenever they’re not talking content. It’s bizarre given that he’s generally an intelligent, funny, witty dude, and he doesn’t do it on any other pod. You can hear Mallory trying to reign him in with her transitions. It’s like a mix between the worst of bad radio and all the terrible jokes you’ve ever made talking to yourself. Super cringeworthy and uncomfortable. The series is good enough to bite your lip and suffer through it, but it’s needlessly distracting and annoying.
doing a pod almost every night is letting Bill take every single position on each of these series, he can't lose!
In the last episode he kept unintentionally slipping into a bad impression of J.P.’s robot voice from Grandma’s Boy and I had to keep pausing the stream to calm down or I would have threw my phone through the fucking wall.
I really enjoyed Bill reading Magic Tweets to House and RR and having them guess if it was real or not. Russilo is really funny sometimes.
Russillo is hilarious to me. I never really listened to him and Van Pelt due to work but I love when Bill has him on.
Him and Bill were great together in the moment and Rusillo will call Bill out on some of the insane shit Bill says
I love that Russillo stops Bill every time he starts talking about bad coaching and asks him “wait what did you not like about his coaching”. I’m pretty sure has said every coach that has been eliminated coached poorly at some point in a pod. You can tell it irritates RR. The way he talks about coaching in all sports is amateurish.
has Bill ever had a coach before? When he talks about having played basketball, it's exclusively pickup hoops
After seeing his jumper on Instagram, I’m going to say definitively no. He was a tennis player in his youth I believe.
Concepcion as a Knicks "fan" is such cringe, it's basically a meme, no way he even likes anything about the league other than what gets posted on NBA Twitter
what did he do or say? i dont watch nba desktop so my exposure to him is very limited. think i've heard him on 2-3 podcasts and that's pretty much it.
