I played with a guy on Friday who has done this, and not that this holds true for everybody who has done it but he’s such a glass half empty old grumpy guy as a personality schtick that it just fits perfectly for him.
Bethpage is such a big course (even bigger this year) I have a hard time believing my guy can get it done, especially not playing any competitive golf since the Masters. We'll see...!

Where can I get a real handicap? Not a member of a club or anything. Had to play as a zero today in my father in laws member guest. That’s a joke. We didn’t finish last so that was good.
Download the Grint app. Log all scores using the free version. There is essentially clubs for cities/zip codes with an administrator and it is officially USGA recognized once you meet minimum rounds. I haven’t joined a club yet but I had two clubs recognize my handicap on the Grint as “official” for tournaments/invitationals.
Go to the course you play most often and sign up in the pro shop - or see if you can sign up at your FIL’s course. I’d pay the $30 for an actual GHIN. You don’t have to worry about whether or not it will be accepted that way.
Visit your states official golf association website and see if you can register for one there. Otherwise, just walk into your nearest public courses pro shop and tell them you want to register for a GHIN thru them. I'd be careful with the grint thing that was suggested because last I knew you dont get an actual GHIN from that so the "official" part of it might not fly some places and they won't recognize it.
If you want to be legit get a GHIN at a local course. They have an app where you can load all the scores from your phone.
I have some scores uploaded to Grint but joined a course and purchased GHIN in March. Can I upload the 2018 scores from grint to my GHIN account now?
Played the Old White TPC at the Greenbrier on Tuesday while I was up there for work. Course/greens were in awesome shape and we had a beautiful mid-70s day. Ended up shooting 94 (50 - 44), mainly because I was struggling from the tee. Really fun track, and always cool to play a course where they have a PGA event.
Yeah want to make sure I do things appropriately. Just need to get enough rounds in to solidify my HC to play in club events.
Finally picked up my new irons while getting fitted for the driver and hybrid. Just need the constant rain to fuck off so I can actually use them.
I bought a Taylormade M CGB combo set last week. They are super game improvement which works for me because I suck. They are expensive as shit but I got them for 400 bucks on eBay. Played yesterday and really liked them. Trade in value at dicks is actually 600 right now with the extra 50% promotion. May trade them in for a set of M6s.
Romo is playing in the Byron Nelson this week. His gallery is one of the biggest on the course. Wtf is wrong with those idiots?! There's like a hundred actual professional golfers playing and you follow Tony fucking Romo??
I paid for ghin two years ago and uploaded my past 20 rounds that I had kept in another handicapping app to get everything ‘official’ for a member guest I did. Never had the slightest issue. There really isn’t a way to distinguish the entry date vs the played on date that you enter for the round.
Yeah thats what I was probably going to do tomorrow. Was thinking about going to Club Champion and doing a fitting for a driver. I had a M2. The shaft broke in my car crash so I figured Id just go buy a new driver completely. Its been a month and I was playing a old R7 and I got sick of it and snapped it over my leg last weekend.
