I already had a discover card, so I converted my chase to freedom and will just use whichever card has an active 5% category. I just don't travel enough to use the sapphire benefits.

Don't they send you an envelope for you to return the metal card to them to be destroyed?

I have a chase sapphire preferred that I got about 10 months ago. Water under the bridge now, but I screwed up the double dip at the time.

I now have 160 UR points and about to get another ink preferred. Doing the math, it’s like a $600 difference on the redemption rate between a CSP/Ink and a CSR. I’m obviously not eligible for a bonus on the CSR but can I upgrade my CSP without the CSR being a new card (and adding to 5/24)?

Keep in mind that if you are transferring any portion of those UR points to one of the travel partners (Hyatt, SW, United, etc) there is no difference between the CSR and CSP.

When you get a second ink preferred is there a way to connect it to your existing online account? Or do you have to create another online account and again transfer to your existing cards? Basically what is the easiest way to get the 80k from the second ink to my reserve account?

I got the citi AA card and hit the sign up bonus before I even got my Delta Amex card. Delta already posted my sign up points while I was told it would be another 1-2 cycles before the AA points come in. They are seriously the worst. The last two flights I've done on American both times my first leg was cancelled causing me to lose a day on my vacations. Even though the citi AA cards are free money I'm not sure it's worth it to deal with that horrible airline.

Hey gents, I need a bit of advice on what card to get. So pretty much, I need a hotel card that we can rack up points on and get free rooms.

My situation: I fly for free worldwide (int'l trips I just have to pay the tax leaving a country. It's usually $15-180 total.) It's by far the best perk of any job ever. I've been flying a shit ton lately and spending way too much on hotels. If I could get my hotel costs down, that would be amazing. Planning to do two European trips this summer as well as more Caribbean trips and just weekend trips. We never rent a car so I need a chain that has hotels in common touristy areas and lots of options.

When I was keeping up on this thread a while back, it seemed like the Hyatt card was the go-to but it seems like they don't have as many hotels as say, Hilton. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hyatt basically pays for itself if you can use the free night each year, has a $95 AF which is tiny. Which you should be able to in most major cities worldwide.

Definitely not as great selection though.

Hyatt point value is also high, so if you have Chase transfers you can get good value there too.

30k pts for a 1k/night hotel is nice

Hyatt is definitely the worst and not nearly as good as Hilton. Everyone knows this and knows it well.

This for the most part - Hilton has better reach internationally and better properties in most places compared to Hyatt. Hyatt has some nice international hotels but they're not ubiquitous.

I've started to consider the Citi card that gives huge points on Hotels.com

trying to figure out which hotel works best for the trip then finding which branded card I have that aligns with it(or none which has happened a bunch for this Denmark/Sweden trip) is kind of a hassle for seemingly little benefit

Hilton's reward program is a joke. Super bad value.
Hyatt has good value but bad selection and not many options if you travel to different places. The best if you stay at the same place over and over and can find one you like.
Marriott is the best selection/ options, OK but getting worse value

I've had status at all three for reasons. Hilton is the best user experience in my opinion. Marriott has everything and they know it so they charge you for it. It will only get worse. They can't get out of their own way through this transition and basically don't give a shit. They know they have the market share to do what they want. Smaller guys should be licking their cops.

Don't have near the experience or expertise as others in this thread, but I've been very happy with Hilton. Properties all over and I'm very happy with the card benefits. As others have said, the reward structure isn't the best, but I've been successful finding good value on some upcoming trips.

I'll throw in a quick plug for IHG (although their 120k pt offer just ended). Their points are pretty cheap to acquire and I've found good value in Cancun and San Jose, CR. Can't speak to their European options but US/Central America options are worth keeping an eye on. They also a rotating special called Point Breaks that cut the redemption 50% or more for different hotels each quarter.

Not sure how many free nights you're going for, but you'll run out pretty quickly on any card, so planning to get most or all the different chain cards is probably the best strategy.

Went to try and book a hotel for tonight on the Amex website for the Hilton Amex points CC I opened a few months ago. It said no points...I call Amex and they explain that I'm a moron and need to login to the Hilton website to use those points :/

Do you get the 1 free weekend night offer after you've had the card for a year?

Also got something from Chase saying I could get 75000 ultimate reward points if I go through them for my next house. I didn't read the fine print but I guess if we do our mortgage through them we get the points.

I wouldn’t be using a 75k bonus as the end all be all for my mortgage decision, but you should definitely factor that in when comparing.

I've been getting a lot of those Chase mortgage emails as well

Next time I need a mortgage they'll get a shot but 75k points isn't worth even an 1/8th of a point in rate difference.
