Yes. Fire Avila. When your best option in the minors is a guy that walks 6 per 9, and has no command, that points to you and your scouting department. Outside of Manning and Mize there really is no impact prospects in the system. The few bats we have in top 10 are looking like replacement level players in the majors. Cameron is hitting under .200 in AAA. We have the worst fucking offense in the majors, with no help in sight in the immediate future.
Manning today in Erie... 7.0 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 9 K, 1 BB Mize yesterday in Erie... 5.0 IP, 1 R (unearned), 2 H, 4 K, 0 BB Mize has now allowed 2 R (1 earned) and 13 total base runners in 40 innings this year. I believe he allowed his first non-infield hit since April 9 yesterday. Manning wouldn't be that far off that pace if it wasn't for his last outing before today (5 R, 4 H, 3 BB). His ERA is down to 2.27 this year with a 50/8 K/BB.
Keith Law posted a mock today. Here are the first 6 picks. He has us taking Greene, but connects us to both Abrams and West Virginia RHP Alek Manoah.
I know baseball is a different animal when it comes to the draft, but am I wrong for thinking that taking another SP would be really dumb?
I don't think it would be dumb, necessarily, because pitchers bust out at such a high rate due to injury that you can never really have enough. If a pitcher is the best option on the board, I think you take him. Where I would agree with you is, at this point, I'm not sure you can make the argument that a pitcher is the best player on the board at that point. If I had to guess, teams are just linking Manoah to the Tigers because he's a 6'6"/260 lb college RHP who throws mid-to-high 90s. Teams link us to every hard thrower every year.
While looking up to see if he finished it, I saw a guy from the South Bend Cubs got yanked with a perfect game going at 76 pitches last night: https://www.milb.com/gameday/kernel...nal,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=577889
is that Aussie kid supposed to be a legit prospect or just another one of those huge power but it doesn't matter if you can't make contact with the ball guys?
Everyone knew it was going to end up with him getting the job, but it's disappointing that they seemingly didn't even look at anyone else. For that or the analyst jobs.
Gibson and Morris are very hard to listen to. Gibby was better before he got into coaching and managing, although maybe it's the Parkinson's. Jack is just a prick.
I wonder what Barbaro Garbey is up to. And whether Carlos Guillen would be interested in being a color analyst.
I'm terrified of the jinx here, but is Matt Boyd good now? He came into tonight leading all AL pitchers in fWAR, and might pass Scherzer for the MLB lead after tonight.
We finally won the David Price trade. And yes he’s good. Unless some team goes crazy and offers us two top. 50 prospects, you hold on to him. We have him under control for. 3 years, and we need to start trying to win at some point.
I think Boyd is a guy who has the mental ability and enough talent to be a good pitcher for a while. The type of guy you approach sometime next year if he's still pitching well and try to buy out his first 3 years of FA at a decent price.
That said, he's 28 and controlled through 31 so maybe you just let him pitch for 2 years and trade him for more talent if he's still good. His prime is club controlled, even with the avocado oil.
He's going to start one of the games in Saturday's DH. Assuming this is only because he's on the 40 man while the guys who are better options than him aren't.
The 40 man roster is about minor league service time and options. Soto has been in the org for a long time. Mize, Manning, Burrows, etc., have not and don't need to be protected yet. If we put any of those guys on now, you can't take them off when you send them back down.
You know nobody gives a shit about baseball. Pujols facing Ryan Carpenter needed one RBI to reach 2000 and there was 2 fans in left field seats that were going for the ball.
Jesus what a weeping vagina. It is just unthinkable. Fucking millenials. Spoiler OK, that last part was a troll. But seriously, what a weeping vagina.
