    New Big Thief :ohgosh:

I'm generally a big fan of NPR's All Songs Considered podcast but one of the guys thought Big Thief was going to become some big arena rock band after the last album. It was absolutely bewildering. This one sounds a lot like Adrienne Lenker's solo album and I'm just fine with that.

Forgot about this until randomly coming across their stuff on youtube tonight, about halfway through the album and I'm ready to call it a win

I like how every time I lament about having not heard much new stuff that catches my attention a run of albums seems to always pop up that hit the spot, I should complain more often. Wand sounds promising too, have a couple new things to check out tomorrow.

I guess it was a bad choice not to go to this, but at least there is a full show video available. Sounds great. Beach House at Kings in Brooklyn.

I didn't attend last night's 37d03d festival because it was Boys Noize as the feature, but there were all kinds of performances before it and apparently Justin Vernon fronted a Bob Dylan cover band, which I found funny. My wife is a big classic rock fan and went to see Bob Dylan with my daughter and they were so pissed because he played none of his old material. Apparently vernon played a ton. Wouldn't mind catching a few songs tonight. At least I know she will be happy.

So I attended the 37d03d festival last night. I have to say it was pretty awesome. Such an insanely cool venue. I'm completely guessing but there were probably 800 people or so there, but it felt so intimate and raw in terms of a performance. I was with my wife about 5 deep in the crowd from the main stage. The venue itself was so cool. Really awesome art exhibits including the entire original wall of Keith Haring's Boys Club Mural and a really cool light fixture that was changing colors and doing all kinds of pattern stuff throughout. The brick walls and exposed wooden beams were lit up in really cool accent colors. There was an outdoor bar and fire pits and food and a tower you could climb up into and have drinks and overlook NYC. I highly recommend this venue if anyone ever gets a chance to see anything here.

In terms of the music. It was a lot of fun and different. They had a Malawian performer who was hysterical but good. A Choir of women called the Resistance Revitalist Chorus which was like a throwback to the 60's peace movement but with songs aimed at Trump, corruption, income inequality, women's movement, etc. They also had a nice collaboration band called This is the Kit which was led by Kate Stables and featured Aaron Dessner and some of the Big Red Machine band.

Other highlights included a guest appearance by Vernon Reid of Living Colour on OMDB, which just became a jam session. The videos I took doesn't really capture the sound as good as I thought it was. Justin's voice definitely faded as the night went on. It's missing a lot of the bass, which really filled the air. In general, so much fun and so intimate. They played from like 10-11:30 and then Boyz Noise did a DJ set.

I just realized Brooklyn Vegan used my videos and so did Stereogum...

Anyone else get kinda annoyed when a song’s Spotify graphics are some short video loop instead of the album art?

Hannah Cohen's new album is pretty delightful

by the end of this month we'll have new albums from: Nots, Institute The National, Black Mountain, Holly Herndon, Faye Webster, Mac DeMarco, AA Bondy, Clinic, and Bedouine

and within the first week of June we get new Lust for Youth, Palehound and Stef Chura. Should be good stuff. I really cannot wait to rage to the new Nots

M'ark Pepperonio I think you're really gonna like the new Nots album

lol, the new Mac DeMarco, however. Woof. I am sure a lot of people are gonna hate this album. The songs Choo Choo and K are legitimately pure trash

I felt like nothing at all was happening and then Choo Choo and K come up back to back. Those were tough to make it through. Nobody is a pretty song but that was the only one that stood out. Just seems so bare and empty to me

I don't see myself listening to it in it's entirety again. Especially with so many other new releases

just got back from my first show at The Fillmore. I got there early to check it out because it's so historic. It is pretty much a museum, just amazing. Then Kevin Morby blew everyone away. Highest concentration of white people in SF tonight was 100% in that room

I believe he played his entire new album and then transitioned into what he called "Saturday music". Started with City Music and ended with Harlem River. It was a beautiful night

Omni on Tuesday has me so fired up

For so many artists itt we end up in very divey/venue bars (or at least in Phoenix), always cool to get to see some classic venues.

There's an old Orpheum here and I got to see Big Thief play in the lobby. Even that was memorable.

Seem to remember a couple people in here saying Whitney wasn't real great live. Bad enough to not go, or just a step down from the studio quality? They're coming by on the new tour and with the new album coming...
