And had killed off many of the more entertaining characters. There is a reason why most authors follow the plot armor trope. It's hard fucking work to continue coming up with new characters that people care about.
Yeah, the first half of ADWD is the weakest, by far, of the series. Has no idea what to do with Tyrion or Dany, his main characters and their stories DRAAAGGG. When he figures out Young Griff it's not bad, I'm interested in fAegon's story, along with Connington, but then the slavery stuff is just tedious and weird. AFFC holds up way better on re-read, it's jarring because it's mostly new characters(and some take a while to find their voice) but I love the Dorne stuff, the Iron Islands is mostly blah except Victarion. But the Cersei chapters are fucking amazing, and Jaime's arc is executed perfectly.
I enjoyed it as well. It’s just a tough follow after a storm of swords. Obviously. The wait didn’t help either.
Cersei and Jaime make AFFC worth re-reading. ADWD needed an editor to tell George "trim this." Same with JKR and Order of the Phoenix.
Dany and Tyrion as someone said is what makes the last 2 a chore to get through. Jaime/Cersei was good.
people just couldn’t get past the fact that some of their favorite characters were missing from aFfC. it’s a good book.
Idiocy on the Internet George R.R. Martin MAY 13, 2019 Internet journalism is an oxymoron, I am more and more convinced. Of late it seems there’s a new story about me somewhere on the net every day, or near enough to make no matter. Many get things wrong. For the most part I ignore them. I have better things to do than try and track down every weird rumor or out-and-out fabrication that pops up on some obscure website trolling for traffic. Every so often, however, one of these stories gains an improbable currency, and just chuckling at the insanity no longer suffices. That seems to be happening right now. All of a sudden this crazy story about my finishing THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING years ago is popping up everywhere. No, I am not going to provide links. I don’t want to reward purveyors of misinformation with hits. I will, however, say for the record — no, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six It seems absurd to me that I need to state this. The world is round, the Earth revolves around the sun, water is wet… do I need to say that too? It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels? Why would my publishers — not just here in the US, but all around the world — ever consent to this? They make millions and millions of dollars every time a new Ice & Fire book comes out, as do I. Delaying makes no sense. Why would HBO want the books delayed? The books help create interest in the show, just as the show creates interest in the books. So… no, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David & Dan. There is no “deal” to hold back on the books. I assure you, HBO and David & Dan would both have been thrilled and delighted if THE WINDS OF WINTER had been delivered and published four or five years ago… and NO ONE would have been more delighted than me. I have said it before: don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Except here, of course.
He states this like he's so fucking proud of it too. He's totally going to die before they're finished.
Internet: Maybe GRRM isn’t a fat lazy piece of shit and the books are already written? GRRM: No actually you’re wrong I am a fat lazy piece of shit.
He has a chance to really cement a legacy of an incredible series and he is such a fat fuck that he cannot even figure out a way to hire people or something to help him untie his plot knot and restructure this shit. He’s an over thinker and a lazy POS.
Did you listen to the ringer? Mallory straight lost it. Sobbing about the negligence towards Ghost. I think I fell in love with her right then. #dogpeoplearebestpeople
Visually, it was extremely well done. I have my well-stated gripes (Dany’s actions, Cersei’s death, Euron) and I kinda think the Binge Mode crew will think the same. I think it was a better episode than four, but not significantly for me.
As a video game cut scene, episode 5 was a 10. As an episode of an allegedly intelligent ongoing narrative it was a 2.
I can forgive some of the ridiculous shit in Episode 4. I get they only had six episodes and it's a rush. Nevermind the fact HBO wanted to give them more episodes, but whatever. What I cannot stand are the writers completely changing a character and/or completely throwing the character arc we've invested 8 seasons in watching for plot convenience. Honestly, it's insulting to a viewer who has put in days of time in watching the series. It feels like D&D have zero respect for their audience at this point.
I’m beginning to think the way Cersei and Jamie went out was intentional so as to be a factor in the last episode. If there’s no bodies discovered due to the rubble, Dany won’t know for sure they’re dead and this perpetuates her madness/she suspects Tyrion helped them escape.
As a long time book reader this has been my feel about d&d for awhile. It's not the show hasn't been enjoyable but that there were some very important scenes in the book which were unnecessarily cut. Tysha and only Kat are two of them. If you haven't been part of the fandom for a long time you might not be as attached but to me it was the equivalent of, in some future starwars redo, Vader said to Luke "I knew your dad man!" Would have made book fanboys so happy without costing anything really in time or CGI budget. Before you all go all ragingRapeApe on me, I'm not saying that the show wasn't awesome. Just that they seemed to purposefully skip things close to the heart of the long term nerds.
Rewatching, I appreciated that you don’t really see the dragon much or even Dany’s reaction once she decides to torch the city. Kept it all ground level like a well done disaster/monster movie. Because I’m sure all he got from D&D was “Dany burns city” and “Arya escapes”
wow I thought that scene sucked, but we're talking about CGI. maybe she just had to put a dog down or something...
Mallory is a gigantic nerd and routinely cries while talking about her favorite pop culture shit. I mean some parts of Harry Potter hit me in the feels too but I'm not weepy about them a decade later. Still enjoy her though
Yeah, I still think she’s great and outside of both of their strong personalities, they do an outstanding job on that podcast.
To me it's like Embid after game 7, Tebow after SECCG woopin, or Gobert after the all-star selections were in. If you are crying because you're so passionate and care about something that much? Respect. Also Ghost is my favorite character.
It will be 8 years in July since dance with dragon came out. If he be some miracle got the winds of winter out this year, he’d be on pace to finish the series in 2027. 31 years to finish the series
