Stacking the supreme court? Writing laws that make abortion illegal that will go to the Supreme Court? IDK my bff Jill?
You should move to Alabama so that when your daughters are raped they can be forced to relive that trauma every moment of every day for the next 9 months. You fucking shit pile.
Sounds like abortion clinics on the Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia lines will get the business. Capitalism wins again
That's more due to Joe's failings than the GOP's. And also mostly superficial. For things that matter, Joe will just be another D (LIB!!!). The GOP are who they are. You're painting them to be the shapeshifters for some odd reason. Perhaps to justify your interest in Republican lite?
You’re a bit late. There’s already been half a dozen posters who have tried to put words in my mouth. Not once did I say that the GOP would bow down to Joe. Not once did I say they would act in good faith. What I did say was that in an effort to undermine the progressive movement they would cut a few deals with Joe. Who knows what’ll end up being in the final bargain, I imagine you won’t like it—I prob won’t either, but eventually some kind of deals will be cut. The bottom line is they’ll have more room to work with a Biden than they would with Bernie. That’s my opinion.
The only way they'd 'work' w Biden is if he folds and gives into some of their demands. So yes youre right in that Biden is more likely to do that, than Bernie. BUt that's a dem doing the deal cutting, not the GOP who will be doing the same shit theyve done since Clinton.
There was a lot of window dressing during the Bush era and before about how the GOP operated. Honestly people bought that they were just so gosh darned principled and hard-working, and it was a time of a lot of prosperity up until the economic collapse when a lot of stuff got de-regulated. The GOP lived off memeing themselves into seriousness. It wasn't too long ago people unironically labeled R's as "the party of math" because Paul Ryan was just so damn rigorous with all his smart calculations and budgeting. Biden is that hope that we can keep pretending R's are just in a fugue state
Stereotyping is cool. Small business CEO is not the same as billion dollar company ceo. These are guys who started and built businesses and took huge risks in doing so. They employ people who their wise wouldn’t have jobs if not for the businesses that they created. None are likely making 7 figures and they live in one of the highest cost of living areas in the country. I hope we don’t discourage that or think that is bad. I don’t know their political affiliation, but given comments and other opinions I have heard from them, I suspect not.
Look, we both know the primary opposition to Obama amongst the GOP base was racism, pure and simple. I’m saying the same dynamics won’t be in play with an 80yo white guy Washington insider. Sure, politics is still politics, but the GOP even told Trump healthcare reform ain’t happening and to shut up about it. To me that’s a clear signal they no longer wanna fight that battle.
Good for them then. You've managed to find a unique club of minorities within a subset, which deserves props. Were these comments you reference before or after their pockets started taking the hit? (And unless their businesses go under, their pockets probably aren't taking that much of a hit, as evidenced by the passing the buck to the consumer...which is economically expected, but makes it difficult to empathize with CEOs of any size company.)
Listened to an am radio politics show this morning while I was in the field, the host opened it up to callers and it was a bunch of farmers complaining about tariffs. Well.... What the fuck did they expect?
Same dynamics? No, of course not. Dynamics of another color with the exact same effect? Absolutely. Suggesting the GOP will not obstruct to the heights that their power allows is just a silly premise.
I said deals will be cut. That means both sides will get certain things. Even during Obama’s term they cut deals. The extension of food stamps and omnibus comes to mind. And even several GOP senators voted for Kagan and Sotomayor...
It’s not a subset. I live in NY. We are a liberal state by nature. CEO gets demonized because it’s a title, but it’s nuanced, because a billion dollar CEO is very different than most CEO founders of much smaller companies. As far as timing, they took the first hit awhile ago, but I haven’t heard them complaining about that in a huge way previously although it’s definitely been mentioned as a concern. This wave is before they took the second hit, because the new expense is currently on ships which will take a couple of weeks to get here and now we are talking 25% which is a lot of money. You don’t just find 25% margin or expect that pricing won’t impact demand. In the case of someone who designs and sells light fixtures it may mean the choice to go to a knockoff by a buyer or the choice to wait because pricing is too high, so it really can screw up all your planning and metrics and make it hugely challenging to run a business when you’ve done everything right and Trump just decides he wants to be Clint Eastwood with China.
The only active participant in this thread whose heart rate goes up when they roll their eyes and type 30 characters is lechnerd.
This is not at all what the first post said and it’s an equally stupid post. Compromising with a Democratic President is absolute non-starter. They turned on John Boehner for merely keeping the government running. You are completely divorced from reality. Their base has zero interest in compromise. You’re just completely fucking wrong.
I love you, but I think we’re talking past each other. I’m not arguing the GOP will act altruistically. I’m saying in a Machiavellian effort to undermine ppl like AOC or whoever, SOME gop will be more likely to cut a few deals with an 80yo white guy than they would with a candidate like Harris or even Warren. It is shameful, but the dynamics of racism and sexism still play a large role in our current politics...
As our current dipshit in chief shows, the Presidency has considerable power of its own that can be wielded to significant substantive policy effect. That power alone is reason to not give a shit about whatever hypothetical meager delta in legislative achievements would be made in a Biden/R Senate regime vs. a liberal/R Senate regime.
I will bet anything in the world that if he wins the nomination, or whomever wins it, will absolutely have mailer ads run against them saying they are socialists and also have Hillary on the ad
I don't think I disputed any of this. My issue lies with business types being the more likely ones to vote for the wolf in wolf's clothing. I'll also readily admit that my views are colored by my upbringing, but conservatism doesn't really track with class in Nebraska. Also, for the record, subset = C-suite execs in my previous comment. And yes, I recognize there's a spectrum of responsibilities, skills, and buy-in in companies related to scale. I don't believe that has as much of an impact on political leanings as you do, at least at a larger scale than NY, but admittedly, you are more immersed in that world, so I'll defer to your experience to an extent.
Obstructing the evil Dems at all costs keeps their base frothing at the mouth and wins them elections. Compromising gets them primaried
Hard for me to feel too much sympathy for the poor CEOs that run in NYGator's circles considering all the people experiencing actual, real economic and social injustice every single day
They cut deals with Obama—mostly budget ones. Ppl like Collins, Romney, Murkowsky (lost a primary challenge but still won as an independent), bucked the party. Burr just gave Trump a big screw you and subpoenaed his son. Seems like there’s a few who are confident enough or don’t care about primary challenges.
Alabama is garbage. Legislators are garbage. Residents are (for the most part) garbage. I hate living here. There is nothing redeeming about this state.
Quite the assumption you’re making that R2 is able to find a female desperate enough to let him impregnate her
who fucking cares about the business owner class, fuck'em. boo hoo. also who the fuck runs a "small business" and calls themselves a CEO
They expected their dopamine returns from the policies that harm brown people to outweigh their balance sheet losses from Trump being a dipshit idiot moron, but they were wrong
Alabama is a garbage state that drags everyone else down just by existing. I wish there was anything remotely meaningful existing in that state so KJU would crater the fucking thing.
