car buying thread (look at me)

Discussion in 'The Mainboard' started by sleazy, Jan 30, 2011.

  1. It's dumb, I think my payment would be $150 or so more/month if I bought it during or after the lease. No fucking way, or at least not right now.

I'm in a similar predicament. My lease will be over in January. The residual is a little above going rate for a car with the same options, but at least I know my car has been taken care of and doesn't smell like butt.

Friend just got a Traverse and seems to love it. They're slightly out of my range so I'm looking at Equinox's also

I would take it to a good independent mechanic and have him go through that thing with a fine tooth comb and let you know of any issues or parts that may fail soon. BMW is terrible about letting owners know about upcoming maintenance as they near the end of their warranty.

Plus at about 50k is when a lot of things break on BMWs. Not trying to burst your bubble (I have a BMW and love it), just dealing with the BMW warranty dept is a pain in the ass.

idk how much you drive, but leases on them are super low right now b/c there is a new body style coming out on the 18's so they're trying to get rid of all the 17's

Yea I actually saw that looking around recently. Hoping to go to the dealer Friday and see what's up. I have a trailblazer currently and from what I can tell the Equinox is very similar

Just had our 3rd approximately a month ago - time to get a 3 row car but don't want a minivan

Looking pretty seriously at a 2016 Toyota Highlander (limited) & 2015 Honda Pilot - both certified pre-owned

    Any recommendations/advice appreciated

I’d check and see if any local dealerships have new 2017 Highlander’s. Might be trying to blow those out.

New Traverses are actually really nice. Much better than the previous shitbox iteration and have more interior space than a Tahoe.

Is it just me or is the Traverse or Acadia the overwhelming choice for white trash to drive around after letting the vehicle get beat the shit out of?

Any time I see one of those after say 8-10 years it’s beat to hell and some white trash idiot is driving it.

Ok maybe those are 1b and 1c after the Pontiac Grand Am.

I loved my CX-5 so much that we bought a second one when my wife needed a new car. If you're in the crossover SUV market, it's a no brainer in my opinion (or it was when I was looking in '13 and '14).

I question this because the new model is way different than the old model. Like, 9 years apart in model years or something. Your 2019 is in no way similar to your 2012.

It definitely is. I mean it's a lot newer but when you get a new one every 2 years or so they all just feel slightly different in a new way. They do shit like make the radio reception worse or move the aux input, or take the little cubby out on the dash etc but it's just the natural "updating"

The dash controls are way different (there's now a much bigger touch screen and carplay capability). There's significantly more interior space. There's heated seats with cloth if you choose that option. The interior material is updated. There's a stowaway compartment in the back. Mid-level vehicles get push button start, bluetooth (and app capability for starting and unlocking your vehicle), a backup camera, an automatic hatch, and the ability to unlock with the key in your pocket. Also, if you have bucket seats in the middle you can move them all the way forward so you don't have to fuck with removing car seats. I don't think that's really very similar at all.

Right. There's the natural progression of things getting nicer and things becoming more standard. That happens in all car models though :idk:

I totally understand the 7 year newer model is taking advantage of newer technology

So it's not really the same is my point. Plus the body style is a lot less like a mini van. And the engine has auto-off which is better on gas mileage.
I also dig being able to store shit behind the screen.

I was just commenting that with the slight upgrades on each of the 4 models that I've had over the last like 6.5 years it doesn't feel like a totally different car, just keeping up with the trends by progressing as you'd expect. There was a much bigger difference in say my 2006 tundra fo a 2008 tundra or something

I do like the traverses. I've never had a single issue. Granted we get new ones at 60-70k miles or so, but nothing at all has ever been wrong with the car that wasn't caused by something outside of the manufacturers control

A few weeks ago, I was looking on carvana for the same vehicle and it seemed like several were spoken for, but then just a few days later they were available
I think they probably have a lot of people start the process far enough it locks the car up, but then they dont follow through

What kinda question did you have on trade in?
The trade in was super easy, just entered the vin and checked all the options off and they gave me an offer that was upper end according to KBB

I just asked them how it starts, what info they need from me for the trade in. I asked twice in response to one vehicle and then again for another vehicle. they never gave me any info(it may have been clearly explained on the site, but i didn't see it). yes the spoken for shit made it feel like Tinder, one second i'm chatting up a sexy 2017 Camry, then all the sudden it's "spoken for", like i don't have any feelings at all.
