8/10, read spoil after you see it

the first 3 action scenes were absolutely fucking incredible and thought it was on its way to be an all time action movie with Fury Road. Did not like the ending at all, the humor was ok but the scenes sucked besides the 2 Asian dudes fucking up John. Mad about Winston/concierge fucking over John. Thought it was a setup but no way considering the fall he took. Very much looking forward to Keanu/Fishbourne taking on the high counsel or whatever they call themselves

Overall, I'm incredibly happy. Give me more.

I am on this train as well. Idk if i'm ok with just turning my brain off and not arguing with that crowd, but...

the desert scene followed right with the "ill just betray that entire scene" was terrible

The more I think about it, the less I liked it (this ended up being too long, but whatever)

    - The desert scene made no sense. Why did he even want to speak to that guy? In the first movie, they killed the dog and he's basically "I have no reason to live, so fuck all of you I'm taking you out with me." Now he wants to live as a hit man with no control over his life so he can remember the dead wife he gave that life up to be with?

    - The Japanese guys sucked. The fight scenes that took forever and looked choreographed as hell had all of them not killing him (multiple times) when they had the chance, just so they could keep trying to kill him and ultimately die. Why?

    - Winston is friends with Wick and basically gets run for it, so he decides to team up with Wick until he can shoot him and then not kill him? Again, why?

    - Wick is a badass through two movies, and this movie involved him getting his ass kicked at every turn and punching 20 guys in the balls. It was like some angry woman made this movie so they could show 40-50 guys either get punched/kicked in the nuts, or have dogs attack guys in the balls.

    - I just thought the story was stupid, the fight scenes went way too long. It kind of reminded me of the Bourne movies where they had an awesome car chase in the first one, so now every Bourne movie has to have a car chase scene longer than the last one. The great part about the first one was the story was great and the action was fast and to the point. The last two movies just have too many parts that drag on forever.

    - Maybe it's my expectations that are the problem, but the stuff with Halle Berry was by far the best stuff from the movie and I wish it was more of that and less world building/knife scenes/hand-to-hand stuff.

The parts where they could have killed each other, but didn’t, confused me too. Since when was this such an honor-filled group that you must wait to be killed before you can attempt to kill? It didn’t happen just once either. I think it was 3 or 4 times where the movie would have ended with Wick’s head chopped off but nope... small talk and reset.

I liked the knives personally. I thought it was a decent change of pace for a third movie. I agree the crotch shots were weirdly over the top. Hand to hand was excessive in the 2nd half. I kinda day dreamed during the last couple fights because it was just getting a little long and repetitive. John blocks hits, john absorbs hits, john gets thrown through glass, john gets up and everyone’s gone. For 10 minutes. I thought the lobby hotel fights scenes were at least creative but they wrote themselves into a corner with 2 floors of glass walls. He never should have fought those two Japanese guys in the glass floors. They should have cut that out. Only the last guy should have fought Wick. Movie would’ve been 7 minutes shorter and removed an un-needed scene.

Your take is a little misguided.

After reuniting with Sophia and fucking up the actor formerly known as Bronn from the once decent show known as game of thrones, Wick had a change of heart and maybe, just maybe, was looking to use it as a way to get back at the high table for putting him through that in the first place when they should have been glad he killed the guy who wanted his sister on the high table dead.

Ok so the third movie takes place right after the second one. He's already tired and been beaten up, shot at and stabbed. Plus now going up against professional killers a little better in caliber than the previous films makes it harder to look unstoppable. Him getting beaten up on by the Japanese guys working for Iron Chef who were more interested in the fight for the challenge of it than just the kill (similar to their boss Iron Chef) makes a little more sense in the context that he's tired and at his limit. I get that it may not seem like it, but sometimes they were still striving for realism.

Thanks for counting the crotch attacks. Again him being tired would justify resorting to the crotch attacks out of desperation, which is probably part of krav maga or something.

Further on dicks, the dogs are limited with where they can bite. For example, they can't bite someone's chest or back. It's not good for the dogs and can cause neck and spine injuries and on set animal safety people don't allow it. So they're limited with the number of padded areas they can bite at.

Winston did it so Wick could live and get his revenge.

This isn't the same type of revenge movie that the Bourne movies are. Although they were starting to get heavy handed with the themes about rules and authority.

So you don't want world building and backstory, but do want world building and backstory? Because that's what the Halle Berry stuff was. Just in Morocco and not NY.

I agree on the knife guys. That fight seemed long, like they had to justify getting those actors. Besides Iron Chef would have killed them if they tried to kill Wick like he killed the hitman who had a shot at him near the jacuzzi. It might have been more interesting to see them take on the Belarusian mob guys or the Bowery guys instead.

The biggest problem is the movie did nothing in progressing the John Wick story. He is almost exactly where he was at the end of two but he can't drop his dog at the hotel. I really found myself wanting more and more non action scenes. The armor piercing shotguns were cool though.

Those two guys are amazing, and fight choreographers. So, I saw that scene as more of a paid respect, which is why they left them alive too. Ultimately, didn’t need it but it was fine.

    Fight choreography...

There is a positive and negative to it.

Not speeding it up with the camera shows that Wick is slower and tired. He’s just powering through it all through adrenaline, but he’s got to be exhausted af since he is coming off what happened in the 2nd film.

A negative is showing that Keanu is 50 yrs old and definitely slower, and could be interpreted as them going through the motions of the fight choreo.

But that first hour was tops!

Issues stemmed from being overly long

that glorious armor piercing shotgun set piece should’ve been the finale, didn’t need the whole ending straight out of one of the Raid movies though it was well done, also using mirrors reminded me too much of 2

I thought for sure Winston shooting him was a ruse they planned together but seems like a legit betrayal

Wanted more Halle Berry because well Halle Berry. Also wanted to see the Adjudicator chick do something cool.

Should’ve done away with the desert stuff, instead make Bronn appear to be offering him a deal to get back in good graces but then turns on him

Either way, can’t wait for next one. Still better than 99% of what comes out in theaters.

Agree with almost all of this.

I loved the shotguns, but I also enjoyed John making his way up the tower like it was video game levels of difficulty. Really enjoyed his fight with the brothers. Also really enjoyed the fight with Dacascos and his character overall. About time he got the attention he has been due as an action actor.

I thought the exact same thing about the Winston turn. I was sure they were going to flash back to a scene of them all planning it and how. Would have made more sense than John surviving a fall no human being possibly could have. I do appreciate the swerve though.

More Halle. More dogs. Yes please.

Definitely could have cut all the desert shit. Also, taking one of his fingers makes zero sense. Yes, it was his off hand, but you want your top assassin to be without one of his fingers, which diminishes his effectiveness at least slightly? I don’t buy it.

I’m excited for the next one. I think there is an entire “under the table” world we are about to discover.

I definitely understand the symbolism, but I just didn’t agree with the practicality of it. The films, while over the top, are loyal toward the moves John utilizes to kill. You can see him using the same techniques repeatedly, which would be true to someone with his training. You can branch from your core set, but there are basic ones you move to first. He shows that throughout all three movies.

Obviously the leaders of The Table understand how their assassins have been trained. “The One Above” wants John to be “his guy” during the scene in the desert. John agrees. I don’t understand why he would do anything to possibly limit the effectiveness of his top assassin. Losing a finger, even on his off hand, would do so.

I still don't understand how in one scene he chops his finger off to pledge loyalty, only to change that loyalty in the next scene for no explained reason. His initial change was at least explained in the desert scene.

That scene honestly didn’t bother me at all. From the moment he accepted the contract, I thought it was a ploy to keep himself alive until he could speak with Winston. If Winston tried to kill him, then he’d execute the contract. If not, then he’d listen to Winston’s plan. Winston truly betraying him was a swerve a did not see coming, and I therefore enjoyed it. Despite John’s super-human survivability. They maybe should have shown him hitting the tarp on the way down, which would have softened the landing. Bouncing off the stairwell was a bit much.

Yeah the motivation there seemed a little rushed and vague at best, and season 8 game of thrones writing at worst.

I think it was the adjudicator trying to tell him what to do and Wick seeing Winston, realizing where his loyalties were and how he'd want to live his life on his own terms after Winston spoke with him.

I can see that, but I just wish they could've said that in one line of dialog.

The entire desert scene and that 20-30min part of the movie was all setup for one thing, and it's undone in an instant. Seemed odd to spend so much time on one side of the conversation but not do the other side any justice.

Regardless, I dont wanna take up more pages on plot points.
