Yeah trying to tie up Dany’s arc and the aftermath in the same episode was a colossal mistake. You just end up under serving both storylines.
Dany really went from good to evil to dead in 20 minutes of screen time. It blows my mind that they thought this would track with viewers.
A cutthroat as MoC A chainless Grand Maester A hand whose fuckups drove his last queen to mass murder Bran’s small council might be worse than Cersei’s in AFFC.
Dany dying and Bran becoming king in like 10 minutes basically sums up how fucked the pacing was this season. I'm usually a ppl have differing opinions/understanding type, but for the life of me can't understand how anyone could defend that episode or this season
thinking about it some more, I think my biggest issue I haven't seen mentioned is that the narrative of the finale was built around this great Unsullied force led by Greyworm that had to be satisfied with the results of everything. where the fuck did all those Unsullied come from? they should have had huge hits to their number in the battle with the dead and then again when Euron attacked them on the water. you mean to tell me that many Unsullied swam to shore that day the fleet was sunk? even when Dany meets with Cersei in ep 4, the number of Unsullied with her looks about 1/10th what we see in the finale. I know this show has needed to get convenient with its logic as it tied up the many story arcs, but for something to be such a driving force in the finale, it bothered me that the Unsullied somehow grew to this massive force out of nowhere.
Yeah I don’t get it. In one episode they basically had a bunch of unsullied show up and gave grey worm a name and all of the power of Westeros in the palm of his hands. It didn’t make any sense. Jon could have killed her and claimed the throne by right of conquest and name and that would have been completely agreeable but somehow they just took over after Dany is gone and everyone is just meh about it.
I think this is part of GRRM problem with finishing the books. He had a great half a story. He had an ending he wants but has no idea how to get from one to the other and there may not be a way. His 2 pieces just may not fit.
That’s potentially unfair to GRRM. I’m annoyed at the guy as everyone else is but the show all but abandoned much of the lore and fantasy elements. So big picture these may be the end points, but the getting there is still really to be determined.
I have two thoughts on this: 1) ten years of internet speculation greatly exaggerated the importance of Jon’s lineage to the story, And/or 2) this was dog shit writing hurried along for some reason that I still don’t understand.
It was important enough to the story that it was supposedly the first thing GRRM asked B&B before allowing them to do the series. Who are Jon's parents?
Potentially, you're right. I should have said "could be the problem". But after the Meereenese Knot, and seeing the ending (if this is GRRM's ending) I think there's evidence the theory may be correct.
I certainly expect gaps and leaps to connect some dots. I’m just not there yet to attribute the show ignoring some of the more lore building and fantasy elements and attributing that to GRRM yet
DnD just wanted it to be over, hence the truncated seasons and the episodes that felt like they were still on first draft. They probably literally hate the show at this point, which on one level i understand because it's consumed the last decade of their lives but come on, y'all signed up for this job.
And to appease this person and group of people the secret true Targ that nobody knows about is sent to the nights watch that doesn't have a purpose, just as grey worm and company are leaving the country.
Not to defend these fucktards but they claim they only lost half of the Unsullied to the NK and most of the army was marching to Winterfell with Jon. Only a small portion was on the boats. Biggest issue is Greyworm and the Unsullied keeping Jon and Tyrion alive for two months after he was previously seen murdering people in the name of his Queen.
DnD certainly deserve a ton of criticism, but we should always remind ourselves that they did NOT sign up to write an end to this story that GRRM can’t even seem to finish.
I think in the books there were 12000 Half had to die at the battle of the north right Figure another few 1000 at kL Also where did all the Dothraki come from
I can't find the shot of Dany meeting with Cersei to negotiate. there looks like there's about 100 Unsullied left.
I get that. With the time he's taking, some of the writing in ADWD, his other projects he's pumping out, his haughty attitude, and him not even starting the last book, I've decided to judge his ability of finishing the story pessimistically from my cunty perch.
I was typing out all the stupid shit they did and unanswered questions that remain, but it was too long so just going to reiterate that was horrible and this whole season was crap
I’m on team “where did all these unsullied com e from?” but I wouldn’t have expected them all to be at that meeting. It’s not unusual to bring only a small company during parley.
Oh I hate the fucker because this is 100% his doing. I’m just willing to be open minded that he can cover a lot more ground. When he mails it in for the check, I’m right there with you
oh please dump enlighten me. even if she doesn't bring all the forces to the negotiation (I'm not sure I agree with that, she'd want to show strength if she's looking for surrender), the numbers they had last night were ridiculous.
They’re fucking idiots if they thought GRRM was going to write two more books in 6 years or less, and they would’ve needed at least two more full seasons to adapt those.
The first episode aired on 4/17/2011 so they filmed it in 2010. Probably started the pre work for it in 2009 or earlier. ADOD was being written back then and came out July of 2011. I'm sure at the least they thought he'd have the 6th book out and some of the 7th book finished by the time they got to these later seasons. So basically they were expecting him to have the story pretty much finished and he'd be able to explain it to them. Writing 1.5 books in 7 years is not a big ask. That obviously didn't happen though because GRRM is a lazy piece of shit. But still fuck D&D for completely mailing it in these last two seasons. The three of them can all eat shit.
Probably, and not that DnD thought this through, but didnt Jamie pretty much plunder Highgarden of its wealth and grain when he confronted Olenna? I would think all of the spoils from Highgarden are incinerated like the rest of Kings Landing.
It’s still seven. D&D can’t count. 1. The Vale 2. The Riverlands 3. The Iron Islands 4. The Rock/Westerlands 5. The Reach 6. The Stormlands 7. Dorne
They are known as the 7 kingdoms because that’s how many kingdoms existed when Aegon conquered Westeros. The Riverland and the Iron Island were both ruled by the Iron Born, after Aegon conquest they split the kingdoms, there are actually 9 kingdoms in total (KL being the 9th kingdom).
"D&D didn't sign up to write the end of this story" sure, right, yes, sure, yes, ok, sure I agree, yes And that season, that finale, was the worst fucking writing. Just no excuse. Holy shit was that bad. I don't care what challenge they were presented. "Hey, you guys have to jump the grand canyon on a bmx." (subsequently breaks leg trying to get on the bike)
Reading Fire and Blood, I remembered this passage when Arya told everyone what she was gonna do. Arya ending up in Asshai? https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Elissa_Farman
that was just a little pre-war meeting, she didn't bring her entire army with her. Cersei didn't have but about the same amount of people with her.
Exactly. Everyone that sailed farther west than that never came back. So, Arya is sailing to her death
one thing about Arya that I would be very interested to see how it played out in the books was that the Faceless Men seemed very strict about their rules of killing. Arya completely ignored those rules and got away with it once. in the show, that was the end of it, but in the books I feel like she may still have to pay for her cheating the god of death.
